I found something interesting as well, Briana White helped promote Hearthstone back in 2015, which was a game John Heinicke marketed and launched. Who knows what is going on honestly. I think the recast was simply to promote new actors that these corporations have plans for. After Square Enix worked with Avi Arad on Kingsglaive, they rushed to get celebrities in wherever they could which ultimately lead to the recast of Remake to get Tyler Hoechlin and Cody Christian in.

Kojima is a very busy man! He was also quite deceptive with Stephanie Joosten as well when it came to Death Stranding, he just had a desire for celebrities. I do love the work Kojima does and I will look forward to his new titles, but the way he handles deals with voice actors versus celebrities will always sit wrong with me.

Any which way as much as I'm sure Kojima would like more celebrity names in his games and is arguably more than accredited enough to warrant them. I don't think it's a surprise to see actors become more prevalent in the gaming industry as it grows and becomes less of a niche outside of the mobile market. Though if current introductory price benchmarks and console generations are anything to go by, then it might be a while before it becomes "mainstream" and blockbusters like that of the movie industry become as big a norm as that of annual cash cows like Cod, Fortnight etc. That being said on the voice / mo-cap actors front, Stephanie Joosten recently did a play through for the 9 year anniversary and although I didn't watch it all or ask her anything on the subject. She did if I remember correctly start off the stream with remembering her time with both the English and Japanese cast and team with great fondness, as she accidentally started the game in the Japanese dub. David also recently played through the game, for what he said was the first time and didn't seem to mind it, as far as his opinion on the game goes. Again don't remember if he said anything specific about Big Boss or Keifer. As far as I'm aware of and I could be so far off the mark, Kojima's team, be it the devs, voice actors, the like, don't seem to of had anything bad to say perse. At least in a public manner. If anything they seem to have been gaurd rails more than a hindrance. Any sort of negative reterhic seems to be aimed at Konami for the most part, be on the sly or outright on stage. (I'm looking Guillermo on that one 😂) Kojima also didn't drop Robin Atkin Downes!? Who as Miller and the way his character pans out in the story. Albeit maybe imo. As is the case with his subversive antagonists. Is easily more important than Big Boss in MGSV or at least as important to the story, the Walkman saga and now BOTH original Metal Gears, as is Ocelot to that of the original numbered saga and Big Boss to it overall. Who's already had another voice actor play him.🤔 It still is, as it all was a decade ago, rather strange, considering Neither Ahab OR Ishmael is the real Big Boss. Kojima did it again... He seems exactly like 'The Man Who Sold The World' and Ve sound more and more like Miller, the real captain Ahab of the pequod every year now. But thats not who Ve were meant to be remember?

It was a ridiculous, completely pointless, absolutely disrespectful move towards Hayter, who's been faithful and done an amazing work, particularly considering that Otsuka Akio wasn't fired from the japanese version. Having said that, Keifer Sutherland is an insane ass actor and a very VERY good voice actor and he did a fantastic job, too.

@@karagravis Keifer Sutherland did a great job as Snake. When he spoke, it still fit Snake. I rather enjoyed MGSV and still think it’s a fantastic addition. I do think Avi Arad did Hayter dirty, especially after calling him a a friend, but ultimately Kojima wanted to get a celebrity from the get go and Avi was the connection for him. I just wished developers understood how important voice actors are to fans.

I got you, don't worry. Avi Arad is the founder and ex-head of Marvel studios so even though Venom came out in 2018, he's been working with comic book Venom since 1996. In 2007, Avi Arad used Venom in Spider-man 3. After that release in 2007, Avi Arad attempted to create a Venom movie, but was shot down. In 2013, Sony was beginning to make movies with characters including Venom. Venom (2018) was in production since 2016 which Avi Arad would have known about it prior, especially since he's been trying to make a Venom movie since 2007. Kojima used the Marvel IPs to pay homage to the man that founded Marvel Studios and produced many films based on Marvel IPs, not just Spider-Man.

@@TheReunionVII I was a massive Marvel fan in the 90s and I'm well aware of Avi Arad's career, but you referenced the Venom film in your video. MGSV was also in development since like 2011 or even 2010. Aside from that, do you have a source for the homage, or are you just connecting dots? Not that it would surprise me, as Kojima wears his influences on his sleeve, but using a producer credit that postdated the game isn't a very strong case.

@GabeNwagbala Idk, we all thought the same thing until things still changed at the last minute. It's what happened with the FF7R, Persona 3 Reload, X-Men 97, and Totally Spies revival series when we all thought the original VAs would come back as their respective roles, but then they've changed at the last minute with all or some not returning. These days, voice acting industry aren't always to be trusted, so I'd watch my back if I were Haley.

Bingo! Influencers are extensions of the companies, that's how they make their money by getting new content and titles to sell on their channels. I truly believe that's why Max Dood has become the face of Final Fantasy, he had the most subscribers out of the 2015 FF7R reactions SE was shifting through and they chose him to lead the charge.

@@nickywampole3306 They both miss voicing Cloud and Sephiroth too. Burton and Newbern have been doing cons together since the recast and keep saying they are both ready to voice the characters again whenever Square Enix calls them.

@@MaxBraver555 Square Enix is a Saga-Aftra signatory so they use union actors. The new cast is from the same union as the original cast. Speaking of the voice actors in Japanese, the French and German dubs are also using their original cast, only the English actors were replaced.

Clearly Japan does things differently then America with VAs alot of VAs in Japan will voice a character for YEARS if the franchise keeps pumping out media. America doesn't do that all the time. People will use Kevin Conroy Batman but we have tons of different Batman voices Kevin the most popular, same with Mark Hamil.

@@bub777 Super Smash Bros was non union Nintendo role and he had to pass on the title because he’s a union actor and it would have been messy for him. Luckily, Square Enix is union, so he would be able to continue to voice Cloud in Square Enix productions!

I've been seeing that a lot with recasts too. It would be a stronger explanation for the recast of FF7R but unfortunately Square Enix/ Skylark Studios is a Sag-Aftra signatory and the new cast is from the same union as the original cast. Using celebrities is also more expensive than using voice actors too.

@@sdbzfan1 Well said! People need to formulate their own options rather than trying to align with popular streamers. I think that another issue with criticizing FF7R in general because they have the influencers only doing positive promotion which makes people uncomfortable to go against it and just adopt the influencers viewpoints. It’s a good strategy at least.

It's easy, he has a large following and despite being primarily a fighting game streamer he is on record many times saying that the og ff7 is his favorite game of all time

@@dndamn The key is the big following. Purely from a marketing standpoint, they needed someone with the biggest subs to be the leader of the influencers and my guess is they went through the initial FF7R reactions from 2015 and chose the leader based on that.

@@RicochetForce That’s interesting! Paul Tinto (Cait Sith) said the audition told him to voice match the original cast, so that’s most likely why the new cast in FF7R also has close sounding deliveries to the original cast.

@blondafro4112 your unpopular opinion is illogical and ridiculous knowing the original FF7 voice cast actually brought their characters to life first and for a longest time(imagine not being attached to Kevin Conroy aka Batman), and if they were that 'awful' then they never would've voiced their characters for over 15 years nor would the fans easily recognize who those VAs were known for. And if it weren't for them, then the FF7R would've never been made, nor would the newbies be great all because they were imitating the original voices. Even if personal opinions were just subjective matter, nobody in the industry deserves to be mistreated nor gaslight the fandoms like this. Sucks to be one of the minority who weren't attached to the legacy cast who brought reputation to their roles for many years unless you're recently new to the franchise.

The original FF7 cast...from what game? Dirge of Cereberus? Advent Children? Crisis core? The OG FF7 wasn't voice acted...

Just to let you know the Japanese version of OG FF7 game didn't either and yet the Japanese used the same OG VAs from Advent Children for the FF7R projects, so that cop-out excuse you're using is invalid and pointless. And of course every time there's "original FF7 voice cast mention", it's always referred from the same ones who brought their characters to life from Compilation FF7 and in first games that brought Final Fantasy characters to life like Kingdom Hearts, Dissidia Final Fantasy, and World of Final Fantasy series.
