other than these, there are so many more paintings to study from, for example in the ming dynasty there are the 出警入跸图,平番得胜图,吴兑事迹图,丛蓝事迹图,封山恩荣次第图,行军图,祁岳事迹图,as well as many many other books and manuals such as 武备要略,朝鲜式法,绩效新书,四镇三关志 etc etc, I can't remember the rest off by heart 😅 and that's only from the ming dynasty, as for the other dynasties there are so many other evidence to what they were like and how they were used. There's also a heck lot of videos of private collectors showing their collection on bilibili that would also be extremely helpful research evidence

also, on 明华堂 has a channel here on youtube as well, which so far has two videos talking about arms and armor, one about the Ming-Japanese Korean war, and the second about general Chinese Soldiers from the Southern Song to modern day, I really do suggest those who are interested in Chinese Arms and Armor to take a look

Those flags depicted are interesting. Can you elaborate more? Did the Chinese use flags the way we use them today? Were these just unit flags or national Ming flags?

Some flags represent the Ming, while others represent specific troops and divisions. I'm still putting my notes together on it, but I do find the use of the Bagua trigrams on banners to be very interesting!

Do you have more information on the scorpion tails/scythes/pole sickles that they're using in Against Piracy? Or maybe even make a video on it? Any information would be appreciated.

@@siantlark6751 Yes! A completely separate video for that painting and the various weapons is the plan!!! I had to do some digging to find out that they are Naval hooks used for hooking and pulling boats for control and boarding 🤯

from what I read in Ming manual, it's more of a tool than weapon, and were not recommended to be used on land
@siantlark67513 ай бұрын
@@hanliu3707 While true, the depiction here and in the one other painting where we see them has the weapons being used in the hands of troops that are decidedly on land. So it's a weird disconnect between our artistic depictions and what we read in the manuals.
