Hi Kevin, First of all, I want to thank you for your great video and the information you shared. Regarding free orchestras, I'm very perplexed about all these nice orchestral libraries that, in my opinion, have great demos but are not suitable for their intended target of students or beginners who are just starting to compose for orchestras. The only exception is the BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover, but honestly, the sound quality is too poor with only one round-robin. Besides, almost all other libraries are just special combos or ensembles, which I find totally unusable for composing coherent orchestral pieces. By the way, this is nothing against your excellent dissemination work. I proposed to the SoundPaint guys that they create something to fill this market gap: a library similar to the BBC free orchestra but with decent sounds and 2-4 articulations per instrument (e.g., legato, long, short). This could be the "correct" approach, and while it may not be free, I think this library could cost less than $50 and still be a success. What do you think about it? BTW do you listened the free Sonuscore Orchestra Elements? Thanks, Giorgio

Would you do a ranking of the Best Brass VSTs, AU, Etc? I hear alot of talk about the strings, and the flutes. The Brass Section is one that is the most difficult to replicate the most in alot of genres, these include The Blues, Big Band Jazz, Pop, Funk, and Film Scoring aswell. all of those genres that requires alot of exciting sounding rhythm and articulation. the thing that I worry about when I look at these pieces of software is A.) is Hearing the quality of sounds, how close are they to their real counterparts. B.) and more importantly do they sound good when you don't apply any processing right out of the box, because in alot of the freebies I've tried including the full kontakt ones, have this inability to sound convincing in any other genere other than Film Orchestral music, and Soft Jazz. When I try to do bombastic fun sounding music like the Naked Gun Theme for Example they don't sound all that great, and still sounded like they belong in a Low Budget TV show, and it's a pain to have them sound right too.

I want to buy the most epic orchestral libraries possible. Which libraries will give the most epic sound, regardless of whether they are cheap or expensive? My thoughts: Brass-Cinebrass Pro,Talos Strings-Afflatus Chapter I Strings Choir-Freyja Choir, Chorus Woodwinds-Cinematc Studio Woodwinds Synth-Omnisphere Percussion- Maybe Metropolis ark 3 or CinePerc If my goal is to make epic music, is there anyone more useful than these? I'm waiting for your suggestions)
@KevinKuschel
@KevinKuschel 12 күн бұрын
Ark 1 and 3 are definitely there, especially for organic epicness. Check out Keepforest Devastator and Ferrum for hybrid/processed epicness, also perhaps something like Areia for strings with a hyped sound. Trailer Brass could help as a specialist library for the fat sound. With the right processing, you can make many orchestral libraries sound fat (multiband compression, saturation, distortion, EQ, etc.). So best to learn a bit how to get an epic sound, then you are more flexible.

You've recommended Heavyocity's Damage 2 in the past as another great percussion tool for cinematic compositions. I was wondering, how would you compare the two? Which one do you think is better in a general sense, and which niche do you think each one covers in your opinion? I'm looking at getting an orchestral percussion library, and I place great value on your opinions, so I'm really curious as to what you think. Thanks! ^^
@KevinKuschel
@KevinKuschel 12 күн бұрын
@@SnadMusic Damage 2 has more content, covers both loud-epic and quiet/soft/organic. It's a generalist that's amazing, but it's also 2x the price. Tommee Profitt Percussion is a specialist for hyped, epic cinematic percussion and it does it's job very well. It's more niche than Damage 2. Both are great!
@SnadMusic
@SnadMusic 12 күн бұрын
@@KevinKuschel Thank you for the insightful reply! If I may, I have one last question. How well does Damage 2 cover specifically hybrid or trailer-esq sounds relative to Tommee Profitt's Percussion pack? If I get Damage 2 will it give me excellent coverage over both classical and hybrid mediums or is it recommended that I eventually get something else to fill the gap of hybrid sounds--something like the percussion pack featured in this video. Thanks again for the reply, and sorry if this question is rather long-winded; I such at brevity. :/
@KevinKuschel
@KevinKuschel 12 күн бұрын
@@SnadMusic Damage 2 has a lot of hybrid stuff and it's great. It often sounds sort of "industrial" with their signature "scrapyard" style, and it's quite recognizable. Tommee Profitt Percussion has nice and tight epic drums that are already layered. And I prefer the cymbals workfow. Damage has more content overall, a lot of it is not specifically hybrid. Damage is more expensive, and has stuff like solo drums, and lots of drums that TPP doesn't have. I'd recommend you check walkthroughs and reviews for both to make your own opinion :)

@KevinKuschel
@KevinKuschel 14 күн бұрын
Latency is normal and necessary for sample libraries with legato (connection between notes). You will see this in strings, brass, woodwinds libraries... and also Atlantis 3. You'll need to set your DAW's negative track delay to the value that's displayed on the patch, then it'll be on time for the playback. For Live playing, you'll need to compensate it by playing a bit "in advance", which is a typical characteristic of legato sample libraries.

I've noticed, that if you're also interested in Pacific Brass and don't have Pacific Solo Strings yet, you may want to check out the loyalty offerings very closely. In my case (I have Vista), the loyalty intro price for the brass is $149, but with the solo strings it would only be $89. Pick Pacific Solo Strings for $79 during loyalty intro and then Pacific Brass with the new code. Your total price for these both would be $168, compared to $149 for only one of them.
