Loved the movie, really affected me when I was young. What did you think of the Serpico theme by Mikis Theodorakis?
@lazarusagame13 күн бұрын
@@traderduke2 I really thought that piece represented well the innocence and naive Frank (when he was just becoming a police officer). My understanding is, the story took place from around 1960 to the early 70s. I think there was such a drastic change in popular music - and culture - during that time frame and the theme was nice for the early part of the film. What did you think of the music? Thanks so much for watching. Much appreciated!
@traderduke212 күн бұрын
@@lazarusagame Yes, I loved the film score. You wouldn't expect a piece like that in a cop movie set in New York, that's what was so great about composers from that era. They would come up with a totally original, unexpected melody. It was a triumphant upbeat theme, representing his purity and idealism. Later, as he's betrayed and disillusioned, he used variations on the theme, even down to a single violin, when he was laying in the hospital bed, completely crushed. Tremendous film and another Pacino classic performance!

You'll be unsurprised to hear, this is one of my favourite episodes! Love the use of Born To Be Wild for the race too! The original intro to the 2007 movie (deleted in the theatre version but it's on KZbin, search for 'miami vice film deleted introduction') was, I think, based heavily on this episode.

Oh, Nick! I thought about you so much while editing this. I didn't want to put too much boating footage, but just enough to fit the narrative and tease a little. The director's cut does have that original ending you write about. I love that 2006 footage so much, especially that opening shot from the camera coming out of the water with the boats racing past. So amazing! Thanks so much for watching!

@@lazarusagame The 2006 movie got a lot of hate, undeserved in my opinion, it was very true to the original series. There's an awesome boat chase in the episode God's Work if you ever get to editing a trailer for that one.

I usually prefer season 1 and 2, but I did buy all 5 seasons on DVD. Some of the really outstanding episodes sneak in season 4 and 5. This was one of those outstanding episodes. While it lacked the slick integration of elements Mann’s edited season 1 and half of season 2 episodes had, this story script and acting (and music) was outstanding. I need to rewatch it. Last time I saw it was initial airing in 1988. By the way, the conclusion of Pam Grier’s story arc as Valerie (one of the NBC “banned” episodes) in series 5 is also worth a trailer. I love your trailers!

Thank you for your kind words and trailer recommendations. Regarding seasons 1 & 2, I feel the exact same way. But, as you say, there are a few diamonds within those other seasons. Interestingly, Fernando Allende is a huge icon in Mexico today, known for producing, singing, acting, painting with huge success. His Hollywood success was US based in the 1980’s and 1990’s, including starring as a sadist in the tv series Master of the Game, maybe after this Vice episode. He is the handsome younger brother, the prostitute killer in this episode.
