Crime Story: "Top of the World" Trailer

Michael Mann directed this episode of Crime Story approximately eight years before Martin Scorsese's CASINO was released. There are many similarities as the characters of Ray Luca (Anthony Denison) and Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) were based on the same person, Anthony Spilotro.
"Top of the World" was the 20th episode of the first season. It was written by Peter Lance and Frederick Rappaport, based on a story by Chuck Adamson & Gustave Reininger and Peter Lance. This was the only episode of Crime Story that Michael Mann directed.
NBC originally aired this episode on March 6, 1987.

Great trailer. Many actors of this episodes (Dennis Farina, Bill Smitrovitch, Stephen Lang, John Santucci...) also played parts in "Miami Vice" episodes. Dennis Farina (former real cop in Chicago Police Department during 18 years before acting), for example, played in few other Michael Mann's productions: "Thief" (1981), "Manhunter" (1986) and 2 episodes of the 1st season of Miami Vice. Notice that he was still a real cop when he played in Michael Mann's movies (he officialy stopped his police carreer in 1986). "Manhunter" has a great soundtrack and inspired Jonathan Demme for "The Silence of the Lambs" with Hannibal Lecter character. And Best movie in the Hannibal Lecter trilogy.

Nice trailer and great selection of tunes. I loved the show and was sad the way it ended. The good episodes were awesome though. Mann described Miami Vice as Pastels and brightness (no earth tones). CrimeStory was purple and blues like a bruise. Farina played a badass in both series but he really got to stretch in this role. Mean, determined but honor-bound and loyal. RIP Dennis
