Have you got far enough into insulating the basement to calculate a percentage for your HVAC savings? I'm curious about the foam insulation - i.e., how effective it is.

Welcome to Canada! I definitely recommend insulating the basement and creating a space for your winter gear. It’s a cute little house with lots of potential

Welcome to Canada! Don’t worry about the house - you will have plenty of time to organize/reorganize/change and adapt to what you need! Sometimes, a project like this one takes time…and with a kid, it’s not that important anyways… Adaptation will be the key! Enjoy the tranquility of 🇨🇦
@petemcfeet282 ай бұрын
You may want to check the local laws. I'm pretty sure that you can't just "have chickens" unless that house is a lot more rural than it appears. Chickens will upset neighbours, both with the noise and the inevitable smells, especially on hot days. Not to mention the health and safety regulations and all aspects associated with keeping any farm animals. Good luck! Welcome to Canada! 🎉
@suebean47882 ай бұрын
I agree, probably can’t have chickens if you have close neighbours beyond that yard, I would doubt it very much.

Check your city bylaws around chickens. Some areas don't allow them within city limits or a set number.

@BurntRaisinToast2 ай бұрын
Great - move to Canada, drive up house prices for actual Canadians, take jobs from actual Canadians, and help yourselves to the health care you refuse to provide for your neighbours in your own country. Maybe go home and FIX THE USA, instead of acting like you’re entitled to screw up things for people in other countries - Canada included.

The wife is Canadian. Do you expect wife and husband to live separately? For them not to be close to family where their child can know their grandparents? You've assumed a lot and it's you who are not coming off the best in this situation.

Looks like you’re doing a lot of things right - get pregnant, move to Canada, buy a house and get a Golden Retriever! I’m going to guess his age at 5 years? Anyway there’s no better dog on the planet, no better place to live, no better investment than a house and no greater joy than raising children. All the best.

The stairs are narrow so that you can get your head under the header at the bottom of the stairs. A wider stair run will make it hard to duck under the header. The stair rise has to be a certain height for code. Solution might be to move support header $$$$$$$$

Welcome to Canada. We have been flooded with immigrants and migrants in my city but you seem like good folks. I'll never hold against individuals what our government will allow. I like people from everywhere it's just that we need more infrastructure upgrades and housing before we can welcome the world. Best of luck to you and the house has a lot of potential.

I suggest a big entry closet, you'll have so much stuff in the winter (boots, tuques, wet mitts, coats, scarves, wet snowsuits), plus your kids' (more than one maybe) and his/her friends stuff when they come over in the winter. And also your friends. You'll need more than a couple of hooks! Also it will be a huge mess, so add doors.

A square ottoman will achieve the same thing. If it is the color you can always fix that. Spend the money on other needed things. Wishing much happiness
