how many miles do you recommend to change fluid for the transfer case and rear differential?

Go with what your Manual states. I personally like to change them every 25k miles. Super easy to do.

My Tacoma manual states to use NGLI # 2 grease either Lithium or Moly based. I’m not familiar with this Ford one. Would using this Ford brand be ok?
@temosgarage4 ай бұрын
I think you’re referring to the u-joints. I’ve been using this Motorcraft grease for years. It’s an excellent grease for the slip yoke. It’s not just ok, it’s excellent.
@vipercrazy-94 ай бұрын
I used the new white grease from ford that comes in the driveshaft repair service bulletin kit 9L3Z-4W602-A, $30. Most people that use even very good grease state the clunk comes back 10k miles or so, but so far so good. At first I only lowered the support bearing and added some mobil 1 bearing grease to the splines, the clunk was the same.

Hey, thank you for posting the video with so much detail. How’s the system been doing 5 years later? Is there anything you would have done differently? Looking at adding a transmission oil cooler to my Tacoma before the summer heat gets here
@temosgarage7 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! The only thing I’d do… or use differently, are the hose clamps. Can only tighten so much before they strip and so doesn’t clamp the hoses good enough and oil seeps. No leaks, just very slow seepage. Use pressure clamps or better hose clamps. Other than that, it’s been a solid setup. Has kept my transmission nice and cool.

What is Power transfer unit ?? Is it the same as transmission oil ? How often should i change each kind of oils...engine oil...transmission oil...power transfer unit oil...differential oil....
@temosgarage11 ай бұрын
Power transfer unit is similar to a transfer case. In this case, sends power to the rear wheels. It is not the same as trans oil, its special gear oil. I change it every 30k miles. Follow what your manual says to do though.

Just so you know that website for the filter is no longer active. BOSS was based out of Australia and have handed over their filter production to a different Australian company apparently. Also this Magnefine Filter was an OEM part in a few models apparently - and then the after market got flooded with fakes with no overflow valve!! Crazy scary. I think I tracked down an original Magnefine Filter. Turns out the 4L60e has a technical bulletin to install a 2nd magnet in the pan since the pressure control Solenoid is sucking up metal bits causing the "bump and slip" - and there's a 3 to 1 ratio from 1st to 2nd on that transmission - so a lot of pressure on the solenoid.
@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 Жыл бұрын
a weld itself is not stainless so it would rust? Oh later you said the outside rusted. Got it.
