I bought one a few months back for my 2008 v6 Tacoma. It really does work. My mpg has increased. I can't say drastically but I take much less trips to the gas station. Got mine off Amazon for $30. Probably my most favorite little mod.

If you have a lot of Blow-By or a least when you look into your Oil Cap and see a lot of Moisture when Engine is Hot or see a lot of Moisture in the Muffler/Exhaust.... This will help a lot especially Starting issues! I installed this in my Dad's Truck after seeing a lot of Moisture in the Oil Cap / Muffler / Exhaust and Hard Start of Humid / Cold / Rain Morning / Nights. Now the Trucks starts right away and works really smooth too. BTW... I see my Dad always have problems starting in the Morning or when Rain out. I also see a lot of Steam coming out of Oil Cap when the Engine gets Hot! Once I install the Oil Catch Can with a Filter for venting, somehow it solved it, especially Hard Starting in the Morning / Nights!

He's correct about the Hose. I just got one and install it and a week later.... I found that the Hose can't stand the Heat and it was collapsing if you have the Car run for 30 minutes plus.... Due to Heat! What I did was the same in the Video and got 4 Feet of Rubber Hose with Braid from Home Depot and works great!
@temosgarage6 жыл бұрын
Home depot hose is air hose, still braided but I don't know if the rubber can withstand the harsh vapor chemicals from the PCV. I recommend using vacuum hose (cheap) or even transmission oil line (more expensive though)
@JodBronson6 жыл бұрын
+Five Foot - Well I used the Vacuum Line / Hose that came with the Kit. But after an Hour Drive, that thing was " Soft " as hell. I got scared from collapsing. Although you are right about the " Rubber Hose " from Home Depot that I got.... Maybe it will not stand the Oil / Gas, etc... I guess time will tell in my case. But it sure brings me to that attention for sure to watch out when I empty my Can. Thankx for the idea!
@temosgarage6 жыл бұрын
The hose that comes with most of the catch can kits are crap. I've bought a 2nd catch can and this one came with good quality hose so that's good. I am working on a video showing an update of using the catch can. 10,000+ miles and the catch can works great. I am installing a 2nd catch can for the passenger side breather hose on my Tacoma. Ill be doing a video of that install too :)
@JodBronson6 жыл бұрын
+Five Foot - On the Passenger Side, I just used a Cheap Filter and " VENT " it out, LOL. Although it smells... But it sure does help to Start the engine quicker and smoother too. NOTE: Use as " SHORT " hoses as you can. It really needs to breathe from my experience. I had smaller hose on the Passenger side, and it was kinda rough... But since I changed to bigger hose and shorter distance, it's a lot better now. :D

That is your PCV, its to relieve crank case pressure caused due to blow by. These engines are designed with this feature in mind. If you do not relieve crank case pressure then you blow gaskets and seals. These are not performance engines so this small bit is not an issue. Also keep in mind that DRIVING HABITS MATTER!! 1. Allow your engine to get to operating temp before use. 2. Long idle times are bad for engines.
@temosgarage7 жыл бұрын
I drive like an old grampa, or so ive been told (im 28) my engine rarely sees above 2000 RPM unless i HAVE to do it. I let the engine get to about 60-70 degrees before i start moving. The engine does run alot smoother after installing this catch can.
@JodBronson7 жыл бұрын
+DocFeelGood4 - Hahahahahahaha, wait til it gets hot before use. Are you kidding? The Niggas around where I live... Jump in and Go and if the Car sits.. We Jump and Go in the next Car. LOL. NOTE: When you are in Traffic, you have no choice but to sit and " Idle ". WAKE UP !!!!

I always questioned if catch cans really worked. I done a dual set of cans on my supercharged Mustang Cobra a few years back. I was sold after that. I just installed one on my 2020 Tacoma. Only after 2k miles it has oil in the bottom of the can. They are well worth the money and I will have one on every vehicle that I'll own.
@temosgarage4 жыл бұрын
Moose for sure! I have them on every vehicle. I’ve also put stainless steel pot scrub inside the catch cans to help with blowby gas/fumes cling better and catch more this way. So far so good, I’ve noticed an increase in the amount it catches by having the pot scrub in there.
@vaskamp3 жыл бұрын
@@temosgarage I have 2 questions for you. what exactly is pot scrubs and the second question is can you just unscrew the catch can instead of taking the bracket off the car?

This is the reason I put a oil catch can on my 2016 FJ Cruiser. I don't idle excessively and exclusively use synthetic oil from day one but even then just like your experience I have always put catch cans in all my vehicles be it gasoline or diesel. Your video proves it conclusively.

Wait, so you only did one catch can? I recommend you install another catch can on the passenger side. The pass. side also ventilates your crankcase at a much higher volume rate than the PCV side. The PCV side is only ventilating during idle (no load) and the non-PCV side ventilates during a load or when the throttle is opened.
@temosgarage6 жыл бұрын
Yes, just one can on the drive side. Do you have two cans installed? I have thought about installing a 2nd can but after researching, the drive side (pcv side) is the one that produces the most blow-by gas.

Put one on my 2013 Prius V and get about 10 cc per 1000 miles using valvoline prosyn. Better to discard the oil then to burn it. Next step is to put an "oil catch can" on a egr tube to keep the intake clean from exhaust gas."crud".

I think it would be a great idea. I personally have installed oil catch cans on my parents vehicles and siblings vehicles; a total of 5 vehicles running oil catch cans. They are all naturally aspirated too. I know a lot of people will say its dumb to put one BUT i disagree with them. having a catch can will keep your intake, throttle body, intake valves, plugs, and cats clean. Not to mention, an oil catch can will help your gasoline from getting diluted also! So yes, I think you should put one. Thank you for watching!

How did you mount it? Thinking about getting one for my 2007 Toyota 4Runner. Thanks!
@temosgarage5 жыл бұрын
On my Tacoma, there are 2 free spots on the firewall, between the fuse box and the ABS brake system. Dont remember the exact bolt size though. Then I got a piece of flat metal from Home Depot, bent it to my like and needs, cut it, paint it and done. Really the hard part was bending the piece of metal so 1, the can would mount as vertical as possible and 2 so it would line up against the firewall bolt holes.

Just make sure you change the PVC valve on the output side of the block. Judging by the amount of oil you are collecting, that valve is not working properly and might have got stuck in open position.

The main an major issue is to dispose the burned oil, as the common enthusiast driver don't understand how much this oxidized oil effects the environment. I think you should refer to the right way to treat this toxic. If some stupid people will empty this to the ground, trash or to the sewage, they are poisoning our drinking water, soil and whole environment. In many countries a wrong disposal involves in a criminal charge as well. Just take this to any car workshop. Most of them won't care to collect this used oil in their appropriate containers for recycling.
