This was a wonderful distraction for me. Such amazing, beautiful playing. Could listen to that for hours. Whatever the likelihood of a Lerch & Levy album or tour?

That's about the coolest thing I've seen in ages. Adam - you and Tim have such a wonderful connection while you're playing. You're two of the most thoughtful, real, inspiring guitarists on this platform by miles. It would be wonderful if the two of you were able to collaborate on more projects, an album perhaps? Thank you for what you do Adam!

I have done at least 1 hour of intentional practice almost every day for the past 3 years, with a metronome and mirror. It’s worked wonders for my playing.

Great guidance! In grade school, I played French horn and had to practice a half hour every day. I didn't like doing it but I was always 1st chair.

So is Adam playing Tim's Ibanez, is Tim playing his own, or do they both have one?

Just one Ibanez PM3C, which belongs to Tim. We passed it back and forth.

The other benefit if practice every day, is it helps to tell your brain the thing your are trying to do is important, it tells your brain to hard wire it into your "muscle memory"

I agree with at least most of this. For me, I have plenty of time but I feel stuck. And many upon many of the youtube stuff is very clinical. "You can do what I'm doing in five minutes" which is of course, absurd. I find "exercises" unimportant at my age (60 soon) and I feel that it's hard to find vids that cater to being "musical" as opposed to...well....I won't say it here but people get the idea. I don't know if that is fair or not. I gravitate towards things that I haven't thought of before. Like today, some random vid showed up with a dude that talked about "ghost" notes just within pentatonics. To me, that fits with what you are talking about. 10 minutes a day (or more) working on something that you hadn't thought of vs. just going through the motions. Am I daft, or is that a logical approach?

Something I noticed a few years ago; I still don’t know exactly why, but when I pick my Guitar up early in the day, I always have a better day even if it just for a minute or two. Probably psychological but I’ll take it!

I started not long ago doing “10 minutes a day” and it’s made a huge difference for my consistency. Because basically there’s not a day when I don’t have 10 minutes to spare, whereas I can talk myself out of 30 minutes. And then it’s almost always the case that I will do more than that, but the 10 minute rule overcomes the inertia.

What I have been doing for the past 6 months is what I call "the capo challenge". Every day, I go down and I'll put the capo on a random fret and then just play. I can't tell you how this opens up your creativity because everyday feels so different and seems to get something really unique out of you. I also keep my phone on me and if I stumbled across something really cool, I just record it. The Paul McCartney "you'll remember the good ones" is only slightly true. Sometimes, you need a little reminder of what the idea was and then it comes back to you pretty easily. I highly recommend doing this, especially if you are a songwriter. This was a great video! I couldn't agree more with everything you said!

I find that when I don't feel like playing, I just start by playing a simple pentatonic, then add maybe a flat seventh only when descending then a major third or some other note, this starts to focus my mind and voila! I'm in the mood.

I’m never tentative when clicking an Adam Levy video. The high production value captures my attention, and his relaxed demeanor eases my tension. In the tenor of this video, about a journal: develop a tendency to record yourself, and link those recordings to your entries, like a tendon. But because your developing skills are tender, save the recording from the end of each session. Usually within seven days, definitely before ten, I’ll meet my specific objective for an activity. Attending to this schedule is like a tent in which I can craft what I need before moving on. 🫡

Your advice about keeping a practice journal is spot on. I’ve been doing it for several years. At the end of each month I summarize what I accomplished, and I summarize the summaries at the end of the year. It shows me how far I’ve come. I sed to make elaborate plans and set goals; now I just decide what I want to work on for the next 14 days. I pick three areas, and keep track of the time I spend on each topic every day. Right now my goal is to work on ear training(predictive singing of intervals), learning a standard(melody and comp with shell voicings, and chord tone soloing for simple progressions. Each day I note exactly what I worked and at what tempo, and any struggles to address in the next practice. My practice has never felt so productive nor so. I aim for 20 minutes per topic and usually do 30. Love your videos - cheers!
