Glad the pedipalp info was new information for Maya too, yt frog so I wasn't there to explain. Evan broke down the reproduction part better than I could have. Palps are the appendages under their face also used for eatting/feeling/cleaning/ walking and manipulating webbing. Cool to find out long jawed spiders are native to the area. Thanks Evan! *HUGE* I take care of stray cats in my neighbor with food and basic medical care. They're not *wild* but they are wild 😅 My friends and I kayak the Chattahoochee River near Atlanta just about every weekend in the warmer months and we've collected so much trash from the river over the last 15 years or so... Mostly golf balls, bottles and cans, etc. Chattahoochee River keepers also have planned various lake cleanups in the metro Atlanta area which were a little sketchy during goose nesting season 🤣

The sentiment of the music video was cool, but using generative ai is harming our planet with its massive energy consumption so... kinda wild to do that for a wildlife sanctuary that cares so deeply for conservation. I've been thinking for a while that Alveus should do an educational stream on the environmental impact of generative ai, it would be amazing to see❤

I’m not an expert in this, but doesn’t streaming and pretty much any large-scale digital platform also use a ton of energy. Even every comment or instant message we sent has a small impact. It’s quite a large topic to research enough to be able to educate about it in a balanced way. I think it’ll be difficult to draw the line on what is okay to do.

@@Kiki-reads Google "environmental impacts of AI" and you can read about it from experts instead. It's hugely wasteful and currently unregulated and the emerging environmental impact from AI shouldn't be ignored just because the internet exists.

All AI uses lots of power, not just generative AI. Asking ChatGPT a question uses the same GPUs that generative AI does. The entire internet is run out of large air condtioned warehouses full of servers. Data centers have to position them near power generating plants because of the power they use. I looked it up, there's 2700 data centers in the US, as of 2022 they use 4% of the total countries energy. Lots of these centers are working on wind and solar, which is good, but Twitch, KZbin, all the cloud-based programs out there like Office, Teams, Discord, they all use tons of power. That doesn't mean people shouldn't be critical of AI or generative AI. Particularly about copyright, misuse, putting people out of work, but this whole statement seems really ignorant of how tech works.

ik this probaby isn't the right place to ask but I rarely am able to catch a live. has Maya or Connor or maybe any of the other staff discussed generative AI use? I know Connor has mentioned using it before but is it not be coming a huge issue for the environment and probably a topic to discuss? the song was cool but when I saw the person used ai I was like.... hm...

Data centers position themselves near power stations because of the power they require. Netflix, Twitch and KZbin are run out of these data centers. Many of them are working on large scale solar and wind to help, but it's not just generative AI. Asking ChatGPT a question uses the same processing power. Tons of reasons to be concerned about generative AI, including copyright and misuse, but its no worse for the environment than any other cloud-based processing that occurs in a data center.

I'll have to look more into it most of my research on gen ai on the environment I'll admit is a little outdated. this however didn't really answer my question if they've addressed it though. I think regardless it would be good to talk about in a stream or video because of the talk about it.

Had to Check McDonalds Sweden also have Rainforest Alliance coffe (and it says "organic") , they also sell vegan burgers. There homepage, so corporate propaganda, says they decreased there climate effect with 40% from 2012 to 2016. They also give deals if you return take away things to the right place (not just for there own packing) and you can order with a refill cup you can hold on to or return for some money back. Also some of there locations has bee hives on them (probably not fit for all of them) But this is all sourced for them I am not sure how good all of this is, and most of those things still put the pressure on doing things on the consumers.
