Caravan fees, well where to start, site asks what size caravan, how many people, how many dogs, will you be putting a awning up, a canopy, a windbreak, they all come at a cost, my address to this is I’m booking a pitch so what goes in it should be what you pay for ie awning, canopy, windbreak as long as it’s not outside of the site that you have booked, I accept dogs to be paid for( we don’t have one) then the electric some now have meter but don’t allow for this on site fee that you have booked, I will always go on a private site as the site will be where I want to be as the two clubs are getting expensive to join plus the site fees are getting out of hand and once someone pays it you’ll find that’s the price take it or leave it, well after years in one of them it’s now time to move on, as you find you’re paying the ceo wage and a named celebrity who they make president and do a speech now an again choose how much you like them they get attendance fee, so if you agree or not, worth thinking about.

Hi guys. I've just subscribed to your channel because you deal with issues that a lot of others you tubers don't! However, before going any further I strongly advise anyone who's booked into the Hunters Moon site in Wareham Dorset to cancel asap and go somewhere else! As per usual the CMC have provided little or no information on what has been euphemistically described as 'some disruption' during pitch refurbishment, when it's more akin to a construction site! Including the clouds of concrete dust not to mention the noise! AND the people doing the work are not exactly health and safety compliant either! The manager obviously doesn't give a sh*t! Too busy with his own self-importance, and several people have been asked to move their outfits which is NOT ON! And yeah, like everyone else I paid good money to be here! Well, I'm off to one more site soon and after that no more on ANY club site unless absolutely necessary. I will install the latest gas and heater gadgets, a decent power bank, or maybe even a wood burner, and live as peacefully and cheaply off grid in my little caravan as much as possible. I'm now 66, officially retired on a state pension and despite a few dodgy bits about the body I will keep going for as long as possible in my car and caravan, having been made homeless by a criminals working in a housing organisation and a local council! Still, at least I get to choose where I live! Yeah baby! 😁🙋👍🏴🇮🇪🙏

Totally agree with you I believe that caravan sites took advantage when a lot of people took up caravaning and motorhome at the time of covid when people couldn't travel abroad and caravan site put up the prices when people bought caravan and motorhomes.But now when everything is back to normal there's a gluck in the market.

Found a lot of CL sites are very flexible on arrival times if you phone and ask. Latest we’ve arrived is 10pm generally not been many on the site. Average cost we’ve paid is £15 to £25 per night and been more than happy with it for a family of four
@RollingwithTheRobsonsАй бұрын
Yeah we did like the CL network. Most seemed more flexible than main sites. Yeah prices were ok used to get a decent one for 15 when started but probably 15 now. It's also setting up in the dark regularly on site.

Great video mate, it’s a tricky one the only reason we brought a caravan is because the wife’s finance on her car finished but my Volvo is now heading towards 100k I do have it serviced every 10k so it drives like it’s got 30k on it. But we will have to upgrade her car at some point. Before we bought the caravan we did look at loads of motor homes and we did hire one but the caravan seemed more bang for your buck.
@RollingwithTheRobsonsАй бұрын
Yeah I wouldn't totally say no to a caravan but it's the friday night kids finish dancing at 8pm and most sites won't let you on that late. Then Sunday having to leave at 12 o clock ish. Some will allow late arrivals but some then went another nights fee which is ok but not at 45 quid.

Used to live on one of the cheapest campsites in the northwest of england due to rent prices. Even 20 per night still works out 620 a month for placing your own caravan on a concrete block. Decided to buy an old motorhome and not use campsites. Saving hundreds per month. The northwest, for some reason, has the most expensive sites in the UK. £20 was the cheapest, some even around preston, was 45 per night for a caravan. Some, even for placing a small tent in a field, no other facilities, was 20 per night! Some small pods were 180 per night! Like property, these will also continue to increase. Land is that valuable now in England, we are being squashed in and will ne paying extortionate prices in the future.
@RollingwithTheRobsons2 ай бұрын
Yes totally agree. We have just seen a really reasonably priced caravan stunner 19K 2021, motorhome 2009 probably 28K. So quite a difference still. The issue is getting reasonable camp sites. We have three kids so they will charge a base price 35 ish then 5 quid a kid. Therefore 50 quid. Stayed in a travel lodge the other day 51 and could of been cheaper if booked cheapre.

To be honest it’s cheaper to have a B&B I paid over £100 just to take my dogs for a week at one site as well as £40+ per night + extra for an awning that was unusable due to a saturated grass pitch
@RollingwithTheRobsons2 ай бұрын
Yes I always thought that was odd. If you got a room and it wasn't great probably get money off. Pitch expected to sit in grass and probably get stuck and same price.

I lived in a caravan for nearly fours years from 2014-2018, a private small site with showers etc, pitch fee was £9 a night and £1 for electric. The electric has gone up now to nearly £5 a night!

when we started caravanning we thought about what fee we are prepared to pay for sites we are rapidly approaching that line £31 per night for water ,toilet block and electric hook up ,we only use electric for the fridge but we are all lumped in together which is a bit unfair. unfortunately our 2008 caravan saw its last trip this year may 2024 had to replace so we are committed to at least another 2 years but we may have to give up
@RollingwithTheRobsons2 ай бұрын
Yes it's mad. We first started around 2017 and we used to say max 20. Then it went to 25. Be hard pushed to get much for 25 probably just a CL with no real facilities. When first started 25 was a half decent site.

Have not used a commercial site for years. Use Cl's or CS's or rallies all the time. Apart from anything else you tend to get a nicer interaction with fellow campers. It's true regarding costs getting out of control.

I'm not sure it is if 50 quid a night. 600 pounds for two weeks just site fees. Add in fuel etc so maybe 1K depending how far you go. Now family holiday for us probably is 2K but no insurance, storage, extra maintenance fees. Also put that money in bank if it's 20K decent interest.

What is wrong with Britain's hospitality sector, with hotels charging £100+ night, Campsites £50+ night. Thank goodness for Youth Hostels coming lower than the rest and you get a family room for just £40. The Youth Hostels will take any age, you don't need to be a spring chicken. So my Life membership was real value when I purchased it in the early 80s!

Interesting video. We've been caravanning for 14 years. Started off using club sites, but as our confidence grew, moved on to mostly CL's. As long as we have EHU, A standpipe nearby and a foul waste drain, we're happy. CL's these days can be really reasonable. Paid £14 per night in the New Forest back in July for a lovely site, but can be as much as £25 and for a few boutique type sites, with all mod cons, as much as £50! Needless to say, we give them a miss. You mentioned electricity. Back in February we stayed on a CL at £18 per night but you had to purchase tokens for the electric in £1 or £5 denominations. We arrived around 3pm. The owner advised around £2 per day should do. I plugged-in on our pitch and the meter showed £2.40 left from the previous user. Yesss!! As we were staying 4 nights I shoved in £5 worth. It was the first trip of the year so the van needed a good warm through, it was cold outside, heating was on, we had the fridge on, hot water heater, lights, boiled a few kettles and watched TV. Turned everything off and went to bed at 11pm. Next morning in the middle of breakfast around 9.30 we lost all power. The meter was empty £7.40 gone! £2 was OK, providing you used gas heating and water heating mode and the fridge was turned to gas. Lesson Learned.

If you think about it motorhoming and caravaning isn't really that cheap to start with. Loads of people have critised me for buying a motorhome saying how many proper holidays could you have had for what you've just spent on that, usually ending up with you don't get it. I agree though that like everything prices have crept up. £ 90.00 for two nights at a CAMC site made me wince last year.

It seems now too expensive even to stay in b and bs in UK. I decided to use my bus pass and simply have days out. I then scout for deals and get the cheapest two weeks abroad! It's a matter of needs must! I would love a bargain camper van if younger but only for trips to festivals, airshows, country fetes etc and as a luxury spare room parked on my driveway. It's not cost effective for any other purpose.

price of caravans average £30,000 to £50,000 i paid that for my house £50,000 there takeing the piss out of once a working class holiday farmers got on band waggon as it was more profitable to open a caravan site than farm cattle same as fees you pay for 30 ft by 12 ft piece of land with electric and there asking £35 to £45 a night when i can book a flight for less than that and accomidation abroard greedy bastards with know respect or viable reason but greed sad day for caravaning .

Thanks very much for this video. I've been extremely concerned about pitch prices all year. But then if I don't go I have a caravan sitting going to waste. I've been considering buying a new caravan, but I am holding back, waiting to see what is going to happen with pitch prices. I've spent hours looking at different sites, trying to work out different permutations of nights and then giving up in frustration. We've now decided to go to France with the caravan for most of September. I'm joking that I'm going to spend £2000 to save £25 a night on pitch fees! With an ACSI card most sites will be around 19 euros.
