Hi we had that issue with our first van we sold our caravan and took 19 years to get back in to it. Try not to be down about it. Happy new year to you all Dave and Julie

Thanks for the message. Yes, my parents had a caravan then got rid of it due to my sister no longer wanting to go. They have never got back into it at all. Talked about it but never happened as of yet.

Oh to be a parent where kids pull on time, try and stay local with not to much driving, we have had some great last minute breaks where it was 30 minute drive or less and not put up the awning and just enjoy sitting outside weather permitting and walking the dogs etc. Its become a very expensive past time, like you I have to have a big car to tow it, the trick I have found is not to over pack stuff and food, my wife takes half of tescos with us and we are only away two nights. Our kids have fown the nest but I know the pressures you are under and appreciate your uploads. Good luck

We are trying to go closer where possible but I think I have fallen out of love of having to drive storage pick up caravan etc which is an hour long drive. Wouldn't be so bad if could keep van at home. Tried before and someone rang police for it being outside of van even though Police said nothing against the law. We aren't too bad with over packing at present I am funny about it as otherwise adds lots of weight.

@@RollingwithTheRobsons I no what you mean our is 20 minutes away and usually pack it up the night before, it's not easy going away a lot of planning is needed but I love the fact your on your own time table etc. We went away in May to Greece all inclusive 5 star hotel with swim up pool. My wife said after 3 days what did I think of the holiday ? I said I would rather be in a field with my caravan and my dogs. She said the same.

Keep the caravan as a motor home will not solve the issue and more maintenance cost with a motor home just go away a little less and plan slightly longer trips local to keep the cost down and the van is always handy for impulse breaks But surely the cheapest option is to make do with what you have all the best

The caravan has gone. A motorhome solves the one night stay issue. If had caravan would be main holidays only be still running big gas guzzling car all the time. We will see what happens next.

So, you aren’t getting away due to the girls dancing, you can’t afford it either due to the cost of living crisis, you’ve had a Motorhome previously and it didn’t work for you. Your solution is to buy another Motorhome and get yourself into MORE debt ! Great idea 😀😀
@RollingwithTheRobsons
@RollingwithTheRobsons 2 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly that 😀😀 If we did the debt is manageable on payments. The camper van is best for money option as can use as daily if not too big. My worry is what is a campervan actually worth?

Hi fully understand your dilemma. Just to give you our thoughts based on personal experience. In my opinion you are entering that phase where your children will have and will want other weekend commitments. I remember my son (now 23!) Actually writing us a letter whilst away on the caravan....he asked could we stop coming as he wanted to stay at home, play with friends and play in the footie team....🤣🤣 daughter also used to play in an orchestra which took up time. We sold up and put owning a leisure vehicle on hold as it felt too extravagant a cost to justify limited use. We just rented cottages or a static if we wanted a school break/weekend away. You won't believe how quickly the time goes and you start to be able to leave the children at home or with friends etc. Suddenly you have sometime for yourselves and we are now back caravanning and campervanning. We sold our large motorhome recently as we found it too restrictive. Don't panic you have lots of time to decide on your next adventures. Will miss your trips though!! Thanks Jenny

Thank you Jenny for your response. Yeah, it could just be that I don't want to lose it yet. The 6-year-old loves going away. It doesn't affect the older one as her dancing is on a Monday night. I think if was just caravan cost that would be fine as nearly paid off. It's the bigger car that is heavy on fuel and can't easily get around that at present.

@@RollingwithTheRobsons I travelled to Aberdeen to pick up our very first caravan the end of October but haven't been away in it yet! Got 7 different bookings around Ireland throughout the first half of this year and going to Holland (Duinrell and Ter Spegelt) for 2 weeks in the summer. Can't wait to begin our caravan adventures and loved picking up lots of tips from your journeys with your lovely family 😊

@@RollingwithTheRobsons would there be an option to store the caravan any closer to your home to be able to make last minute get aways quicker without the time travelling to the storage? Possibly an option
@RollingwithTheRobsons
@RollingwithTheRobsons 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the comments Eve. No not really only one place closer and never has space. That would be ideal as just down the road.

Due to the cost of living, we are only using our van on school holidays, from Easter to October. It is a shame to have it parked up unused, but we’d rather save and have good quality holidays, as opposed many smaller breaks. Also, finding new places to visit.

Thanks Adam. That maybe what happens to us if the van doesn't sell at all. Perhaps that might be what happens to us next. I have started working that I struggle been in the house too much at times and being away in van helps with that. I might need another option perhaps to get me away.

Sell it. Buy a tent and/ or use other accommodation options. More flexible and Lowe costs. Leave the Moho idea for now. Too risky.!!

A tough dilemma. But surely the cheapest option is to make do with what you have and make that work, getting an expensive Motorhome or borrowing more seems counterintuitive

I just no longer have energy for one night to use van. One hour to pickup from storage then 30 min drop off etc not allowed on site till 3 then expected to leave at 11. Whatever we do monthly payments will end up similar to now.

Paul, what difference would it be for the girls if you have a motorhome or a caravan. They don’t want to be away. That’s what happens when kids grow up.
@RollingwithTheRobsons
@RollingwithTheRobsons 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, they like going away but like dancing as well. A motorhome or van means we can still go away the Saturday and most of Sunday. With a caravan that isn’t really possible.
@deanhempshall1335

We've never had a motorhome so this might be a bit off the truth but surely they are no more economical than your sorento pulling the caravan? So poentially it could add additional financial strain, especially if it's going to cost you more money to buy a decent one. Campervans just aren't practical for families, unless you have a huge drive away awning (we had a Nissan Elgrand) which was used and it wasn't practical. I do get the bit about having to leave site early on Sunday but more and more sites are now offering later check-outs for a little additional cost. Maybe you could extend your finance agreement to reduce the monthly cost on the van? Difficult decision to make & we wish you all the best :)
@RollingwithTheRobsons
@RollingwithTheRobsons 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The economical bit relates more to everyday use. Sorento is currently averaging 33mpg and has since October with no caravan. can pick up cheap Dacia that will do 60 so fuel bill halved from 200 a month. In terms of motorhome we had a Ford 2.2 one and on trip to northumberland it did 33 vs 25 towing. Also over time we are getting more into touring a bit more and sitting in one place less. Could be a mistake you never know. Not many sites we visit would let you stay late on Sunday in past couple of years. May change this year. Some have minimum stays as well if two nights.

We had both a tourer and a static we made the decision in nov we could no longer afford it today is our last day in the static currently emptying it we’ve cried alot absolutely love haven and Rockley park just not the costs they increased by 2k this year which just can’t stretch too people say it’s just a bit of metal but it’s more than that to us. Selling is such a hard choice to make but you have to do what’s right for you
@RollingwithTheRobsons
@RollingwithTheRobsons 2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry you had to give up your static. Yes, the prices of everything is going up and wages aren't keeping up. I calculated that this year just my self losing about 1.2K compared to previous years due to inflation. So be around the same for lucy so that is 2.4K less as a family to spend. That is basically our family holiday in the summer pretty much gone.
