Why would you use mono backing. That makes zero sense
@ZackBostick3 күн бұрын
Uhhh, ok. I’ll copy something off the internet with hopes it helps you. A mono backing is used on a spinning reel, particularly when using braided line, because the monofilament grips the spool's arbor much better than braid, preventing the line from slipping and spinning freely on the spool when a fish is hooked, essentially securing the line and allowing for better control during a fight; it acts as a base layer to hold the braid in place and avoid line slippage.

I’d go BG but Battle 3 is a solid reel too!

My Stradics from 1992-1998 are still running smoothly. I'm switching to BG because it has an anti-reverse switch to allow backreeling.

I love Stradics too. Haven’t had any that long but I know they are work horses and last a good long while. 92/98 is crazy though! Really getting the money worth

the diawa bg is designed for the line to spool that way more at the top

I’m sure it’s fun catching cobia but I wouldn’t be able to handle that many people. I’d rather not fish.
@ZackBostick3 күн бұрын
It’s difficult. Makes it easier when you can spectate for a while and see how others get it done. I would never say “don’t fish” but it is good to know your limits and or work up to new fishing

I had it on a Penn Prevail that worked great for the size lures I use for stripper fishing in my area. Recently, I have it on a 10’ TFO
@ZackBostick3 күн бұрын
Prevail is much cheaper and held up for me for years! Still works to this day. Somewhere near $100 but the TfO was nearly 3x that

What’s the best conditions to get on some flats in the rapids down there?
@ZackBostick3 күн бұрын
I don’t fish for them much in the rapids. There are rapid areas which hold fish but when targeting the flats on artificial, high muddy waters.

I just want even line lay. Hard to avoid wind knots especially when fishing to leader but I'm here for line lay. I've found even to be best for me. Some prefer it to Kay up and others down but I'm all about evenness. And I'm to a point of needing a metal shim, bushing, spacer wtf ever for under my plastic shim. It's as thin as they get but line lay still sucks. Or isn't perfect which means it sucks. Thanks for sharing brother. 👍

Im going to the OBX next week and i ought this reel combo as a 2nd rod to use. I am going to fish the Point Down there and Avon Pier. Braided line is very much frowned upon at these places and wanted to ask you what pound mono would you recommend me spooling this reel with ? Thank you in advance.
@ZackBostick4 ай бұрын
Depends on what fish you’re fishing for. But for a reel about this size, I would be spooling up with 20lb max. When I fish the point I use 17-20lb mono for the drum. On the pier, I usually roll with 20 and 40/50lb shock leader. If your bombing off the pier, beach or whatever, most likely you will need a 7oz or more to hold bottom. When throwing such heavy lead, you want the shock leader. Shock knots can be a little wonky on spinning rods. Shock leader will be able to throw heavy lead safer and also will help you out when getting your catch closer to being landed. Good luck to ya and let me know if you have any other questions.

All my daiwas have this problem from my really expensive one to my cheap one. None of my Pfluegers have spool issues even my cheap ones.
@ZackBostick4 ай бұрын
Some Diawas are supposed to lay line somewhat uneven to the eye. Even those can foul up and need some tinkering. Some cheaper reels don’t use the shims, therefore they can’t be worn down.
