I was in my pickup truck next to a loading dock in Plant City about 3 miles west and almost exactly lined up with Lakeland Linder when the tornado hit. It was very intense. I thought a tree would end up falling on me while I was sitting there. I drove by the airport on the way home and at the time I didn't realize it had been a tornado. There were a few trees and a lot of branches down.

It would be nice to know some details, like where did the flight originate? You mrntion that it was a flight TO Charlotte, strange you didn't mention where this flight was FROM.

My first flight was on a Northwest DC-9 In 2008, I’m now training to be a pilot, hopefully for Delta airlines. Very bummed I’ll never get a chance to fly this plane.

I rode a DC-9 from SF to LA in the early 80's. It was like riding a rocket, beautiful plane and the most steep takeoff I've ever felt to this day.

My first flight as a kid was on a Northwest DC-9-10 for short 20min flight from Saginaw to Detroit in the late 90s. I sat in the back seat next to my Dad with that same view. I instantly went from being nervous kid afraid to fly, to being absolutely hooked on aviation. That 30+ year old little DC-9 took off like a rocket, and I’ll never forget that beautiful engine noise. Thanks for posting

Could have been the same plane, as Northwest was bought by Delta... Funny thing is, it could be the same plane I flew in when I was a kid in the early eighties when it had "North Central Airlines" colors (and the duck) painted on it, later becoming "Republic Airlines" which merged with Northwest in 1987....
