Keep taking one step at a time, moving forward. Overwhelm is normal when aspiring to something big and ambitious. But as you indicated, just keep momentum on the next step - and then the next step. If you want help, we'll be launching a much more supported and designed onboarding and learning experience with the next Notion Life Design program launch (www.NotionLifeDesign.com) . Or, stick with the Do It Yourself approach. The videos go step by step. You don't have to do everything at once. You can just do one segment, spend some time with it, and then move on to another segment. You've got this!

The recurring items not appearing until the day they're scheduled is why I gave up using that functionality, so I'm glad you've been telling Notion we need to see them in advance! (I also landed on the same workaround of just rescheduling the recurring task to the next time it's due.)

I found the exact same when I started looking at Obsidian. It just couldn't handle a full-life system. It's good for the knowledge management slice alone - which is just the Vault portion by itself of this PPV system. However, the real power comes when you integrate the vault knowledge system with the rest of the system - action management, habits, guiding principles and everything else together, where each can inform the other. This just be done in Obsidian, as much as I like Obsidian. I'm glad you found us! Your timing is perfect. We're about to take things the next level with a lot of updates in the Notion world. Notion has been changing so much, so fast. I'm about to launch the next iteration of Pillars, Pipelines & Vaults. I'll post here on the channel when it's ready. But the older foundational videos still. All the principles are still the same. So dive in!

Hey August - as always, great content with a lot of valuable information. I will need to go back to the Project Automation section to double check my thoughts. From your presentation it sounds like I could establish a recurring project template with a series of automations for action items. For example, I preach a sermon each week. Am I correct in that understanding? So would I be able to create automations like action 1 - Establish Main Point (assign date) - Action 2 - Establish context ( make this action active after action 1 is checked) - Action 3 - Write first rough draft (assign date) - Action 4 - Edit rough draft (assign date) - Action 5 - Rehearse Sermon... Then each week select Preach Sermon in the Project dropdown template list?

August, so sorry about the leaks, I know the torment they can wreak; I hope your landlord engaged with you right away to solve the issue rather than dragging it out for 16 months...sounds like you worked toward a real solution and fingers crossed for the future 👏Mainly glad you weren't harmed in the process :) So what I also super identified with was the knockdown, and seems it happened to me at the same time - I returned in January from 6 weeks in Kerala, India, where I had been studying malayalam and exploring various things related to the martial art I practice and the other art forms my guru learned and I returned from that trip (in itself another resilience story) SUPER motivated and on fire to continue my study in the language and to return to my practices and so many ideas and - two days after I returned I fell sick with dengue. I was incapacitated for a week, during which time the fever seemed to pluck my entire 6 week trip and evaporate it into the ether; it took me more than 6 weeks to get back to my full and normal strength - and all my fire, motivation, energy, ideas - gone. Gone. Then a slew of housing issues to attend to...and so, here I am, very happy to be able to start revitalizing my PPV and create my life anew, and, as you say, simply feel like I am making progress. And I'm happy you're here, too. You really threw me when you said once we get to B, that B becomes our A again and we are stepping towards the next B. I was like what about C?? And my perfectionist neurosis was like, WAIT do we never get to Z??! But at the end you brought it together. I think I see the point - that it's not about the highs on the hedonic treadmill but rather only the feeling that we are "making progress", that we are not stalled. And I'll jump off now before I go on a philosophical discourse. Too long for a KZbin comment? 🤓💗

I think that when comparing a tagging note system like PPV vs. a zettelkasten-based system, it also depends largely on the type of topic. A system like PPV works well for most topics, however I found that for more complex topics, like science and academia and more research-based topics (requiring more deep learning and linking ideas,..), the hierarchical structure really isn't enough and Zettelkasten can be way more helpful. I have however been able to build a kind of zettelkasten-like system into my PPV in Notion using related links. Notion might not be the perfect tool for this, but that still helped a lot.
@augustbradley

@Wrightor
@Wrightor 11 күн бұрын
@@hatoruu_ Hi! Basically I just added a self-relating property to my notes database, which can connect multiple notes together into a string of notes (either linearly, or branching into multiple notes), added a property distinguishing fleeting/permanent notes, and in the same manner as with zettelkasten I focus one "atomic" thought/idea per note. Pretty simple. No fancy graphical views like in Obsidian. I suppose it's closer to using the analog zettelkasten.

whats the difference between the content production pipeline and the content creation pillar now that the dashboards are in the pillars?
@augustbradley
@augustbradley 25 күн бұрын
The content production pipeline is the database. The content production pillar houses the dashboard to oversee all the various embeds and functional views of the database, plus any other relevant and helpful information around the database. Hey august, great content like also! Do you advice to do the time blocking during the weekly review, or during a daily realignment routine the morning (or the night before)? Thanks
@augustbradley
@augustbradley 25 күн бұрын
Great question! During the weekly review, it's nice to loosely sketch out your week and, to the extent you can, map out "DO dates" for each of the days in the upcoming week. Then, the night before each day, you do a much more firm final lineup of the next day - both in terms of what's included and the prioritization in the sequence for the next day's lineup. Of course, that plan can always change if surprises come up. However, having a specific plan allows you to compare the surprise against it and make a better-informed decision as to which should take precedence. Hope that helps!

In the setup process where you connect the database, it asks you what to use for the date property, and then it will only bring in those listed for that date property. Now that I finished binge-watching the entire Notion Life OS playlist & have my own Notion Life OS fully built, I have to say the Knowledge Management System part is by far my most favorite! I was an avid note-taker back in school, but the problem was that all my notes were in pen & paper. When I graduated, I didn't know where to put my notes in a place I can review them, and they're as good as lost in the ether. I'm still an avid blog reader, educational YT video binger, & book reader, so for the longest time I was always looking for a way to store all my learnings in one place. And then somebody recommended me this Notion playlist here in KZbin. And I am just as blown away the 1st time I was seeing this & now that I am using it, I am blown away so much more. My favorite part about the Knowledge Management System is the ability to collate all the knowledge I have gathered on a specific topic, so I have the ability to ponder & mix & match them when jumping to that specific Knowledge Vault. The insights from merging learnings from 2 sources is just amazing! I can't wait to fill my Knowledge Vaults up! Thank you so much for this August!!! 📚📚😄😄

August! I've been binging this series through someone's recommendation, but this concept blew my mind the most! You made time-blocking SO simple, I just became SO MUCH more productive watching this 😆 “Most people go through life having scheduled events that they make because they have obligations to other people, but they never do the things that they’ve committed to themselves. They prioritized obligations to other people, over commitments they made to themselves. So they never get their personal stuff done, they never move their life forward with the big actions that will advance the projects that will change their life. ”The little things that you’re reacting to, serving other people’s priority schedules, often need to get done but they don’t advance your life. They don’t change the equation in your life. You need to make sure that the projects you’re planning & the tasks you’re associating with them get scheduled on the calendar, just as specifically and rigidly as the events you’re planning to meet with & do things for other people.” Beautifully said 👏👏

My most recent video on the Notion Calendar dove into it, and my next one - coming either Friday or early next week - will take it even further. So I highly recommend you jump to those and then go back to the regular series that you're already in. These new ones - the previous one that just came out and the next one coming out soon - really get to the heart of next-level time blocking that wasn't possible back when this original video was recorded. You are always the best. your videos are a turning point every time, never stop please! p.s. a super interesting video for me (which I would have also liked to see during the first famous series of videos) is to see in practice how you "elaborate" a topic in the topics vault. in the sense of how you do "research", you look at the sources (the connected media), the notes, how you take the best pieces from the media and insert them into the dedicated topic (or more topics if there are more). in short, the practical process. because I often find it a bit difficult to do so in practice.

Thank you, it really means a lot to me to hear this. And definitely, no plans to stop. We're really just getting started! Great suggestion. Let me think about how to do that. The problem that comes to mind is that it's actually quite boring in terms of showing that slow, gradual research process in a video. But let me think of how we might shape that. Thanks!

Great video as always! I appreciate you mentioning how automation is not the "holy grail" and tinkering to much with them can become a distraction! Very much looking forward to the AI video!

Thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad you found it valuable. Yeah, sometimes we just have to be direct about what the level of value is - but there are some gems in there. And yes, I'm excited about getting into AI as well!

I hate that the Notion Calendar doesn't integrate with Outlook. What is the other calendar app for the next video? Is it Morgen?

Yes, I agree. I can't believe it doesn't integrate with Outlook. Part 2 will definitely address the Outlook issue.

I spent weeks learning the basics of notion, figuring out and building the structure of my system. It’s time someone created an actual (standalone) Life OS. Notion is good but not great, as a “does it all” tool, I don’t think it does best in this case.

That's no easy task. But I agree, that would be the ultimate implementation. Maybe one day.

Thanks for the great content and review. I think that the fact that there is no Android app for the calendar is the deal breaker for me

I didn't even realize there was no Android app. Wow, that's a big miss. I don't understand how you can come out with a calendar app without both an iOS and Android app on day one. That seems like table stakes - a minimum viable requirement. Hopefully it's coming soon. It certainly must be on the roadmap.

Thanks for the video very informative. My main gripe with Notion Calendar is the iOS app. It’s unusable in its current state as there is no weekly or monthly view. It only allows a three day view, which for me is a real problem when scheduling in work. Hopefully they address this, but it’s been some time now and no update so far. 😢 Looking forward to seeing your next video.

Yes, I completely agree with you. The mobile app does not have the views we need. I talk about this specifically with some screen shares toward the end of the next video that I'm releasing. You're definitely right on.

I've started using the phrase "Just learn from the next step" which also takes the pressure off of getting it right.
