I like what you’re trying to do. If you haven’t sent the 600 back in, maybe redo it with them not laying on the table. If you can attach them both to the tree hanger and replicate how you position them in a hunting situation that would’ve portrayed the differences a little better.
@thedeercamp
@thedeercamp 11 күн бұрын
Thank you. I did already send it back. In person, it’s noticeably louder no matter what situation. I think it’s pretty noticeable even through the video. As I said in the video, Ozonics advertises it as quieter, they don’t say it’s just a perceived noise reduction based on where the fan is. I believe you’re suggesting that because the fan on the new unit is on top, that when it’s hung up above the hunter that the hunter would hear less of the fan noise. Which may be true, but it doesn’t change the fact that the fan is louder than the hr500 fan. Since the hr500 can be setup with the fan facing upward, which is what most guys do, the hr500 is quieter in a hunting situation as well. Honestly, I think even if the hunter hung the hr500 with the fan facing down, it would still be quieter. I actually put the hr500 at a disadvantage in this video because of the fact that I have the fan facing upwards towards the camera microphone and not downwards away from it and setup in the “normal way” for that unit. I think recording the video the way I did, with the fans both facing the phone microphone, was the best way to compare the fan noise.

@@thedeercamp understood. I’ve got the 500. They advertised it to be quieter too when it came out, but I didn’t really notice much difference. I try to only use it when the thermals aren’t working in my favor. I definitely prefer being able to enjoy the woods without hearing it running.
@thedeercamp

@@jpoutdoors23I hear ya there! I’ve gone out hunting twice this year so far and haven’t turned on my unit either times. The woods was dead calm both days which was probably the best time for me to actually use it, but when it’s that quiet I don’t like sitting there listening to the unit running. You’re right, they advertised the hr500 as being quieter as well, which they do with every new unit, and that’s why I bought it too. I actually did a comparison video back then to my old hr230 and I think even during that test the hr500 wasn’t quieter than even my old 230. I kept the 500 anyway because it’s still a much nicer unit than the old models and the coil is bigger. Which by the way, the coil on the new 600 looks to be the exact same size as the 500. Honestly, if there had been just one significant upgrade to the 600 over the 500, I would’ve kept it. But it was heavier and louder and the price tag didn’t justify keeping it. The only way I could even recommend someone buying it is if that person wanted to run their unit on hyperboost all the time and not have to change batteries. Since the unit doesn’t get louder when switching between the different modes, you may as well just run it on full blast all the time.

Agree, and thanks for checking with the db meter. Obviously, the sound levels are about the same but without the rattle of the coil, the 500's sound is more mellow. To get proper air flow, you have to move air. And to move air, you need mechanical motion. So what you get is the additive sound of mechanical motion and the sound of air whoosing through the chamber. It's hard to dampen that sound. Equipment manufacturers that make amplifiers and other air-cooled devices have grappled with blower and fan noises for decades. It's just comes with the territory when talking air movement at higher velocities. Can a deer hear it? I am certain they can since their hearing is hundreds of times better than ours. Will it spook them? I don't know. Since it is a "constant" sound, I believe deer are less prone to spook than with intermittent, on-off-on-off sounds. I think about heavy equipment running or farm tractors running. Most of the time deer pay no attention to these types "constant" sounds...mainly because they are familiar with them and have found that those noises pose no threat. Thanks for the honest review and as you pointed out, the other reviewers are just parroting Ozonics claim of a quieter model 500 without fact-checking with actual sound measurements as you have done. Good review.

I can see the negative direction this post is going already, which was not the intention. I have absolutely zero issue with this person putting a camera next to mine. In fact, I hope they have good success hunting this area. This post was meant for entertainment, I found it interesting someone would put a camera up right next to someone else’s, especially considering this public land piece is 1,300 acres and this was rather far back into the piece. It’s not something I would personally do, but they have every right to do so. Let’s not make so many assumptions and be so negative off of such little information.

Okay, I know this is incredibly old, but I thought I'd add a recent experience with this same test. I'm using an A1i Pro with a Fenix 6 Pro (everybody wants to be a "pro"). Anyway, I initially got the same result you did after ranging/shooting. I opened the Xero app on my fenix; it said it was ready to receive the info; I navigated to my laser locate menu on my Xero and sent the shot info to the fenix; it then asks if I want to navigate to the "new xero location" , HOWEVER now when I say yes it gives me a bunch of other of its standard navigation options, "Point of interest," "Around me," "back to start" "Use Map," etc... You have to scroll down to "Xero Locations." I found that if you choose the other techniques the results are kind of wacky. When I chose "Xero Locations," and picked my most recent shot, the blue pin is pretty accurate. BUT the red line is bonkers. I had to ignore the red line and just head for the pin and I was very much where I'd ranged/shot. Anyway, baring the red line fail, it seems like it will be helpful.

First time using a computer I see lol Cycle the power and it works fine. Its a known issue of.. most things with software. oh, and it was in the first generation of the sight. you do know that adopting experimental technology can mean untested bugs right? The new versions dont have this issue. I called Garmen to check. Software sometimes has bugs. Your computer raingfinding sight also came with a USB cable for firmware updates. You see. Software developers understand that products with thousands and thousands of lines of complex code can sometimes, completely unexpectedly not function as expected. This is usually identified fast by the developer of the code. in this case, one of the worlds leading GPS device manufacturers. this applies more so for brand new products in there first generation. like the version of this sight you got. it was basically a prototype mate. they wanted to see if people would buy them, and how people brak them. every big compony does that with products now. as you can see in the new versions. they have fixed a number of bugs and added new features.. If you dont understand technology enough to use this sight, including dealing with BUGS a product has, your not qualified to use it. stick with a manual sight because a computer is clearly to complicated for you to understand. I just purchased the A1I PRO. Super expensive. I know it can potentially have software bugs. I knew before I got it and I still I decided to. thats my 30 years as an IT specialist vs your life in clearly a different profession. any dightal sight, because iits digital can have bugs. especially first generation devices. I shit you not. a bug exists in aples operating system with the wireless network drivers that has never been fixed. never. and that bug can stop you connectign to the internet. this bug just stops you killing something accurately for a few seconds. not much of a bug compared to that never adressed networkign bug in every single apple laptop or workstation. there is an acceptable level of buggyness for a technology product. its a thing. Its even legal thing in some places. To summarize. have you tried turnign it off then on again, and have you tried updating its driver? chances are. if you do eather of those things, you will not have an issue, or if you do have an issue, you will know how to resolve it. In this case. if your frozen on a full draw. you let down and then cycle the power of the sight. Its not a big issue mate. I bet you have to draw down for far bigger reasons then the sight glitching. LT:DR Dont shit on a product you dont understand out of ignorance. it makes you look stupid.

I skimmed through your babbling and I understand the basic theme is that you’re better than me, I’m stupid and you’re smart. As long as you feel superior now, that’s all that matters. For someone so smart and superior, your grammar isn’t so good. You should look at the date this was posted though. This was when the sight first came out, years ago. I posted this for people that were interested in it at that time. So they knew of the potential bugs before buying. The issues have since been fixed. I also now have the a1i pro. Thanks for the advice that I won’t be using lol. Take care bud.
