I've been using the Scale 75 metallics. They are a bit thin so I've been thinking about picking up the Pro Acryl metallics in the hopes the coverage is a little better!

My tip for this: blutac your shields on. 1. You need some Bostik BluTack or equivalent product. Stain it black by colouring it with a permanent marker, folding in the pigment, and repeating until dark enough not to draw the eye. 2. Use a 3mm ball of this to attach your shields, instead of super glue. One advantage is that if a shield ever falls off, you can just stick it back on again with the same bit of BluTack. But specific to this video, you can have one set of models with multiple sets of shields, and swap the shields to make them look like different factions.

Ooo, nice! I've often pondered some interchangeable figures/options (especially horses that can swap riders in and out) but since that requires more planning up front (and potentially finnicky things) I always just drop it and say to myself that I'll do it next time!

Ahoy! Once you play a game you'll realize the battle boards make all the difference! For example, instead of the Horde having a bagillion unique units with their own special melee/speed/charging rules, that is reflected in the battleboard itself with melee, speed, and charging abilities.

Just watching this again because it's so good 😀 and I noticed at 19:05, do the Norman levy shoot the Germanic Warlord by drawing line of sight through the hill? The hill is high and should block line if sight.

Generally, (historically) Romans beat phalanx (Sarissa) by being able to attack the flanks, rather than head on. Unfortunately Saga does not give a mechanic for this.

@RodgeRules my son plays Greeks, and their defensive abilities are amazing, but also are able to hit hard too. We both feel that the inability of the more flexible Roman maniple system isn't replicated. Also, this video is really helpful. Keep them coming!

Great battle report! I love the princess and her entourage. What miniatures did you use? Did you use Age of Sigmar/Old Hammer goblins or another manufacturer? For your Chaos Dwarves army how do you determine which units are levy, warriors, hearthguard, etc? So, for example, could you personal preference have dragon ogres or dwarves as levies and make the goblins hearthguard, or is it pretty fixed the other round? I know Great Empires and Underearthers are going to play differently, but can you do Chaos Dwarves for either? Why would you choose one over the other? If you were to add Skaven to the mix, would you go Great Empires, Horde, or Underearthers and why?
@RodgeRules14 күн бұрын
Thanks! The princess is a Crocodile Games figure and the the littles are Symbiomates or Symbiobombs from Infinity. For the models, it's best to try and match the troop type to the model (obviously a lot of room leeway in magic). You could try and say the weedy goblins are tough hearthguard and the dwarfs are dinky levy but it might be confusing for everyone.

The romans DID in fact just engage sarissas. Sometimes to significant casualties. Sometimes simply breaking through by dint of their superior defensive equipment.
@RodgeRules14 күн бұрын
Thanks for chiming in! Good to know!
@climbami9 күн бұрын
Romans did engage sarissas but usually only in favorable ground. There are several battles where the Romans avoided engagements on the open plains choosing to engage on more broken terrain where they would be more successful. Sorry, I didn't have time to explain that perspective in the video.

Great series of videos on Saga. I thought you did an excellent job explaining the rules and how things play out on the table. I have a few questions, though. In this second part you feature two warbands (Vikings: 21 figures; Byzantines: 33 figures). Is this a small, medium, or large battle, and what are the min/average/max figures per side? Are armies point-buy, unit matching, random roll, or some other mechanic? Do the battle boards come with the book? Are the battle boards tear out pages, printable PDF, or separate card stock? Does the rulebook come with built in armies or battles to play, or do you have to get one of the ages books (eg. Dark Ages, Crusades, Magic)?
@RodgeRules25 күн бұрын

It’s funny watching this video now, having placed an order last night. I opted for royal purple as a shadow, and then plum and the faded plum for my guys purple robes. Their colors confuse me and is honestly THE biggest issue I have with ordering from them. I’m still not sure what colors I’d use for red bolters and stuff.

The arabic caliphates utilized horse archers just like the later turkish ones, so the saracens are a fine representation, although I'd have loved tomahawk to have made the faction more distinct then just the medieval european word for muslim.

I have a few historic bones to pick with age of crusades. The spanish are a distinct ethnic group. The polish are a distinct ethnic group. Crusaders are an identifiable movement. Saracens are just a lazy catch all term medieval europeans applied to all muslims, be they berber, turk, arab, or anything else. And Moor is a slightly less all encompassing but still utterly indistinct collection of all muslims from an entire region. And the balts and lithuanians and other peoples literally just get to be called "pagan peoples". Is kind of a bummer really in how the game is framed. Distinct euopean cultures and movements and their slurry of enemies that don't warrant the same granularity.

Great video, quick question if you use 3 Guerilla markers for a Activation must it be a "basic" one like move, rest and charge or can it be a advanced one like "Bait", "Coordination" or "Soliferum" ?
@O_ShannonАй бұрын
Thanks for the question. It's only about activating a unit, so rest, move, shoot, charge (so the "basic" ones) . The others you mention are special abilities that have the keyword "activation" but this only means that they are used in the activation phase. And just to clarify, "Bait" does not even activate a unit. The text of an ability clearly states if a unit is activated, such as in "coordination" or "Soliferrum".

If Hearthguard with javelins charge into attack, they can't rolls 1s can they? As they get a +1 to dice rolls. So Inspiration is useless for them on the attack unless they use a rare.
@andreaspersson5639Ай бұрын
Great! My favourite trick has to be what I call the "Norman Lance": 5 mounted Warriors. Dice battery early on (or until I see an opportunity). Then, you just need a Rare (although 2 is even better). Load up Pursuit and Charge (excellent place for that second Rare). Move up the Warriors, toss javelins if something's in range, and then charge with Pursuit. You are now generating 8 attack dice going in, letting you maximize a Charge for 5 (or 7!) more. And you have Javelins... Against a soft target... well 6-man hearthguard units are quite vulnerable. And the best thing is, those 5-man units are quite useful even if you don't get those rares, just by riding up, tossing a few javelins, and then running away (the norman way) again. And no, that banner is not detachable ;) I am amazed that I managed to not ruin it And congrats to the winners... oh, sh-, that's me (well, the random winner)!
