I have had this ear eczema condition for 3 years and I have been using cortisone cream on and off for 3 years. I suddenly became pre diabetic last year and I’m only 44. Yesterday I used it again and my blood sugar jumped to 188 without consuming a lot of carbs. I couldn’t believe that only one slice of bread raise my blood sugar just like that. This is my 4th week wearing CGM and it never happens like this before. God I wish I could undone the damage that the cortisone cream caused.

Why do we want to slow down the absorption of carbs when we have D1M: Adding protein and fat to the meal ensures it’s satisfying and slows down the digestion of the carbohydrates.
@diabetesdietguy2 ай бұрын
Hey Can’t remember exactly what I said on this video as it was some time ago Quite a lot of our patients have problems with spikes between meals because the food they eat is too quickly released for the insulin. So you either have to inject a lot earlier than the food which isn’t always the most practical, accept the spike or change the type of food and/or match it with protein and fat as you say. This helps level out spikes If it’s too slow releasing mind it can cause spikes later but that’s more for things like pizzas and curry’s which wouldn’t be in keeping with healthy eating advice if that’s too often But if there’s no problem on your glucose levels post meal, then no need to try fix it by making changes and some people might be fine even with quicker releasing carbs 👍

low-carbohydrate and/or fasting can be tools to help mitigate this corticosteroid-induced diabetes (which is hopefully transient and ends after the drug course concludes). i'm using prednisone, at the moment, and my CGM indicates my fasting blood sugar (~125-150 mg/dL) is in diabetic territory. i'm gonna apply some low-carbohydrate/fasting interventions to see if they help.

You know low fat is a phallacy? Dietary fat doesn't make you fat. Carbs, glucose and insulin response does. Insulin will store unused glucose as fat. It's a good idea for diabetics to keep carb intake to a minimum to prevent insulin spikes and keep blood sugar levels controlled.
@diabetesdietguy2 ай бұрын
Hey Rustee Thanks for the comment I get this a lot and I’ve got a lot of videos on the subject and replied quite a lot on this topic so I’ll try keep it concise. What you say isn’t entirely true. When you actually work in the field every day and when you dive into the evidence extensively (not 6 month long studies that are poorly designed but more population studies over years - like Cochrane reviews etc) you see there’s actually a happy middle ground. And agree low fat is a myth but not in the way I suspect you mean. Low fat is a perception of bloggers who created a narrative that the low fat is the dietary advice. The actual guidance is to get about 35% of your calories from fat. So that’s about 700kcal a day on a 2000kcal diet Not really low fat but it’s the type of fat ya eating that’s important. Insulin will not store excess glucose as fat if you’re in a calorie deficit. If you only ate candy but only ate 500kcal per day for example, I’ll you will lose weight despite the fact the food you’re eating is pure sugar and spiking your insulin. So it’s a lot more nuanced than what you say. However I do agree if someone with type 2 diabetes is struggling to control their glucose levels, throwing loads of carbohydrates into their diet might not be the best idea short term However, if that’s part of an overall dietary overhaul and over time they’re eating healthy and exercising, you can quite easily turn back the diabetes clock and improve your glucose levels without going low carb

if you are doing 15k steps a day does the incline really matter? is 2.5% enough? that would output on the machine 350 cals an hour @ 4mph. so 700 total. because that is around 2 hours walking a day. uphill 2hrs daily, your feet will start to feel it if the incline is like 5% of 10% as it's not a natural foot position.
@diabetesdietguy2 ай бұрын
@@billyscorner2232 hey Billy Thanks for the comment. Admittedly I can’t remember exactly what I said point for point in this video and perhaps you’re responding to someone else, but I don’t think I specifically said any incline is required and it doesn’t have to be in one go or at the gym. I think the sentiment is this is what the research has shown accumulated over the entire day of you changed nothing else in order to consistently lose weight.
@billyscorner22322 ай бұрын
@@diabetesdietguy thanks for the reply. no, it was just me adding extra context. you didn't mention the incline. i see others mention it on other videos. i think it is more important to get the target goal. so between 15k-20k steps a day. that's a ton of natural movement on its own without worry about a steep incline that some promote. consistency is key. thanks for the info

Thanks, but my basaglar doesn't seem to do anything at all. And it's expensive.
I am in the US and our unit of measure is different. What is your range in our units? I have just started to use a cgm and this helps me. What I notice however, is that the high readings with the cgm is about 30 higher than that of a fingerstick. Which would you trust?
@diabetesdietguy2 ай бұрын
General finger pricking remains gold standard However, if it’s a small difference - then we’d say just choose one and go with it Finger pricks and CGM all have a 10% margin of error give or take. So depending on how high we’re talking, let’s use an example. Say Glucose is 300 on finger and 330 on CGM Well 10% margin says that the finger prick could actually be 270-330 and CGM could be 297-263 So in this case it’s expected However, if it’s huge differences, that’s not normal and shouldn’t happen This effect is obviously less noticeable at lower glucose readings and so if it’s happening then, again it shouldn’t happen

Great informative video thank you. I was diagnosed yesterday with a prediabetes range of 44, I weight 43kg, eat extremely healthy, never smoked and work out 6 days a week. I have questioned blood test results with my gp before as I always ask for my medical records and over the years after a blood test it's always stated....this patient should be monitored regularly as in a category for diabetes, but when Ive questioned it, the gp would always say to me that i dont fit into any of the categories. It's clear I do and need address what's happening to my BGL but I have no idea where to start. I rang my gp surgery yesterday and they say just to wait until next years blood test to see what my reading is. That's not something I want to do as I could then be diabetic.

I have a similar problem of being what is called skinny fat. It's tiresome when for pre-diabetes and type two people info relating to this is being overweight. I now on very low carb diet, but high in fats have managed after one year to take myself out of pre-diabetes by 0.1 It's certainly not been easy.
@diabetesdietguy2 ай бұрын
Lots going on here Based on that picture it does sound like a bit of a square peg and a round hole on that diagnosis However, I’m not privy to all the info of course which could shed some light Not saying it is this, but there are genetic forms of diabetes also where glucose levels just run a bit higher for multiple reasons. Normally a strong direct family history is a giveaway of this. Spending on the duration they’ve been monitoring too, sometimes it can be a very slow burning type 1 diabetes but that would take months to a a year ish rather than several years so to speak. So hard to answer I’m afraid.

I had T2D for many years, Metformin couldnt take my blood sugar down. I had had low testosterone levels for at least 10 years. Now after about 8 months in testosterone replacent therapy (TRT) my diabetes is gone. More muscles, less fat, testosterone enhances glygemic control, it way better treatment than any diabetes drug for hypogonadal men. I really couldnt believe it would cure my diabetes but here I am, diabetes free and never stopping TRT. T2D people check your testosterone levels since many of you have low T and the cure can be pretty simple: TRT and some changes to your diet and exercise routines if they arent already good. Im not sure but it can also help women with low T.

Feel like I’ve got type 2. I can’t put weight on and when I try to eat more food I generally start to get fungal rashes and overgrowth. Take in lots of glucose and seem to urinate it all out and never gain weight… PLEASE can you offer advice ?
@diabetesdietguy3 ай бұрын
Hi alpha beta Unfortunately I can’t There’s an easy test that will tell you immediately if you have diabetes or not - HbA1c. So go see the doc In fairness, what you describe does not sound like type 2 diabetes People with type 2 don’t typically struggle to gain weight - in fact it’s normally the reason they get type 2 in the first place Type 1 on the other hand or LADA (slow onset type 1) is when people struggle to gain weight. However, type 1 is usually a very quick onset so you’d likely know by now if you had that. LADA is a bit different but just go see the doc. They could have a answer for you within a couple of days
@AlphaBeta-vq6ks3 ай бұрын
Yes type 1 adult onset sounds more like it. I’ll definitely try to speak to a doc asap. Are you aware of anything that could be possibly damaging/reducing my insulin producing ability?
