Hi there Mike! I have an LR10G and am able to use a single device with a physical fiber loop back plug just fine. I am trying to use my single device to test an ethernet cat6 cable with a physical loop back plug. The plug I have may be faulty because I cannot get the lanbert generator to establish a link using a cat6 physical loop back plug. Have you done a lanbert test on a cat6 cable using a single LR10G and physical loop back?
@MikePennacchi
@MikePennacchi Ай бұрын
Unfortunately you could only do 10/100 with a physical loopback plug. Since 1Gbps uses all four pairs for transmit and receive, there is no way to physically loop them back.

Are you kidding me. $15-$17,000 for a glorified nmap scanner. there has to be a lot more it does. hopefully it just adds on the ether scope line or something for that amount and has all those features as well.
@MikePennacchi
@MikePennacchi Ай бұрын
It is a WiFi only version of the EtherScope, with the addition of nmap. The integrated tri-band analysis and discovery are where the real power lies. As with any tool, it comes down to your time vs the cost of the tool. This will get you to the root of the problem faster than any open source tool I've ever used.

It's fun to play with but it doesn't give NEARLY the real throughput that you get simply sending a file from your phone to your PC over LAN, though. What's up with that? 30-50Mbit/s is SLOW for LAN. And, yeah, I get the same kind of results on 5Ghz using an S10+ through a router on 5ghz connected to a nice PC connected to the router on Ethernet.

Here is a link to the calibration page on the Fluke Networks website. There is a phone number on the page where you can obtain a RMA number to send it in. www.flukenetworks.com/content/calibration-services

Hello, I have DSX-PLA804 CAT 8 permanent link adapters, am I able to test CAT 6 cable with those adapters or just CAT 8 cable?
@MikePennacchi

Those adapters are backwards compatible down to Cat 3 cable. You will be able to use them to test Cat 6 without an issue.

as with a lot of these videos you know it so well you just scoot around the screen and say things like "go here and then here" etc. Please slow down and explain what to you is obvious. For a newbie, we do not know most of the basics and that is why we are watching. for the most part good explanations but show us how you got there. ie now we send the trace again. th anks

So I have a foreman that swears a perm link and channel are same results - uses patch cords on testers and runs a channel test to give customer. But I say it’s going to be quite different results not just length but other parameters will change. Also when you unplug your tester ( patch ) cord the results you have are now inaccurate. Help ? ( I’m an RCDD but he’s very intelligent and has been in field line thirty years so he’s got the respect ).

When troubleshooting, is it ever beneficial to shoot a test with the main at the patch panel...then move the main to the other end(jack) and shoot it in the opposite direction...?? I don't see where this is that helpful but I do see folks doing it often.
@MikePennacchi
@MikePennacchi 7 ай бұрын
You are correct, there is no need to move the main to the remote end. The modules are exactly the same on both ends and the testing is performed in both directions. The key is using the information contained in the Fault Info tab in the test results and if necessary reading the HDTDR and HDTDX graphs. These will point you to where the problem is in most cases.

It seems like it would make sense if the standards committee required NEXT and RL measurements for a channel test. If the patch cords are terminated poorly, the test will still pass, so it kind of makes the channel test useless, other than just for setting reference. I guess its not possible to run a channel test with the patch cord adaptors?? Whole thing seems strange, you almost have to first test your patch cables with the patch cord adaptors.....then just do a normal permanent link test and hope it all works when plugged in because its impossible to do a full true end to end test.

Are your devices calibrated? Why do they have the date set to 2021?
@MikePennacchi

These are training units that aren't typically calibrated. The date is 2021 since that was the year the live stream was originally broadcast. Needed to convert it from a live stream to a regular KZbin video to make it easier to share.
