I would love your commentary on clepatra/ romean history in movies. Notably Diva Elizabeth Taylor's version. I know the nightmare dialogue preassasination is straight out of Shakespeare from high school but curious on the rest. 4 hour movie.

I hear you, but I still need someone to explain like I'm 5: why is the mutiny of the Bounty famous? Mutiny can't be too rare, given we have a name for it, and this one just seems kinda... boring. They went to get some fruit and the captain was mean. Is that really interesting enough to be the only mutiny many people know by name? Am I missing something? Was it just popular at the time and thus well documented? made famous by a particular work of fiction? (this film notwithstanding) I just don't get it

The stick forts inhabited by the English in this film were ridiculous. One of the forts Wallace took was Dunottar in Stonehaven, south of Aberdeen, and it's definitely not made out of sticks. Maybe the writer had it confused with 'The Three Little Pigs'?

No one has ever been able to explain this scene to me? Why he was swearing an oath on Swans??? Are Swans sacred? Is there some ancient law by which Swans are the highest arbiter of justice? Why? Why? Someone make it make sense?!!?!?

I just finished watching Casino and immediately came here again to see the truth. I will say, out of the 3 scorsese films ive seen: Casino, Goodfellas, The Irishman I like Casino the least. Not to say this isnt an amazing movie, because it is. But Casino lost my interest and attention around the last 45 minutes. I felt that it was just dragging out on the Ace marriage problems which felt like the same thing each time. Goodfellas kept my interest the whole time and for the most part so did The Irishman, but Casino lost me a bit.

Put some respect on the name of this masterpiece of a film. It tells a magnificent story no matter its historical inaccuracy; a story so captivating, enthralling, as well as thrilling. It is a story containing tragedy as well as a comedy, defeat as well as victory. Its narrative conveys inspiring themes of bravery (of course), courage, passion, love, purpose, resilience, all among many motivational themes that provide meaning for the audience. If you still want to disrespect the legacy of this film you can leave it in the replies, trust me I will debate you (and win).

I bought Tom Holland’s book~ in hardcover, at an actual bookstore~ Pax today. I’m only about 20 pages in, but so far really good. Now I gotta get Dynasty, which covers the Julio Claudian Emperors, starting, of course, with Julius, peaking with Augustus, and following the descent down to Nero. Why the madness in that line? I suspect inbreeding & lead vessels & tainted water are prominent factors.

I didn't find this one to be more accurate than Braveheart. Its inaccuracies were, I guess somewhat less on its sleeve than that one's were.

I still rewatch this series once or twice a year. And I always get so damn sad at the end because none of the heroes that was interviewed for it and whos words we hear in the start of all the episodes and in the prologue for the last episode are alive now.. But then it have also been over 20 years since the show aired and they were already old back then so yeah..... Still sad though as those voices have been lost but at lest we still have this show to tell they stories.

Question from the US, is it generally well known by Europeans that the bastard son cannot inherit his father's land and title? Until Game of Thrones came I dont think most Americans knew that. To us its just normal that a son regardless of marital status could inherit their father's estate.

No way illegal fishing caused this. Fisherman didn't just become pirates. Illegal fishing could never remove all the fish out of the waters as you say, which is what they have said. Good attempt to making them seem justified. There was no justification for any of it. Maybe Somalia needs to get their country in order. But their warlords chose different.

I watched through the whole series twice my main gripes I have is it’s non linear pacing at the beginning and how the characters are introduced. Episode 1 should have been wholly in England with the social dynamics of the officers preparation of the voyage and we get to see the glaring issues with the voyage the poorly sealed led cans etc the crewmen being signed up so we are properly introduced to them the episode ending with the Erebus and terror setting sail. Second major gripe there was no need for a super natural element the unnatural looking polar bear that’s supposed to be a hostile native spirit (poorly explained) that climbs on the ship and picks slaves off one by one predator style took me out of it. It would have been better to emphasis the madness of the crew and hallucinations the mental effects of the led poisoning the bear could have been a regular polar bear (that shows up later in the series not immediately after episode 3) that is given some otherworldly qualities by the men’s declining mental state it would have been brilliant mind game the show writers could have played were being the characters and crew are forced to grapple what is real and what is a hallucination.

I never thought the Patriot as a history movie. It never claimed to be. We all knew it was loosely based on history and about a fictional story of people going to war for the revolution. It never claimed to be based on a true story once in it.
