The 32mm hexagonal "bung" for the 18mm sensor is Nissan part # 20607-P6500. eBay, $13 to $16 usually with free shipping (as of Aug 2024)

I have done this job on my 1994 D21, 2-wheel drive. Surprise, sir, your 7/8" deep socket DID NOT remove the oxygen sensor alone. YOU removed BOTH the 32mm iron bung that holds the 7/8" = 22 mm oxygen sensor inside the exhaust pipe! YOU are holding the two items in your hand for three minutes... that have fused together with rust. This happened to my truck after only 43k miles. (thanks, Nissan). I had to buy a new 32mm iron bung ($16 eBay) and a sensor ($? a year ago, forgot the price). Meanwhile, after separating the two parts in a bench vise, using my pet gorilla's strength, a 22mm extractor-socket, Rust Blaster spray, destroying the internal, fused, rusted threads, I made a temporary "plug" with the OLD BUNG, a carriage bolt and 2 washers, one nut, from Home Depot, 89 cents, and replaced the 32mm bung. (so I could drive, silently for a few days.) AFTER my new 32mm bung arrived, I could insert the NEW sensor with 1600 degree anti-seize paste, insert the 32mm bung with a DEEP 32 socket, more high-temp paste (many pipes and hoses are in the way!!!) We drained the AC freon properly, to remove/reposition two hoses! ) What a frikken' headache, but I have 3 of these D21s and love them. ('86.5, '94, '96) I SHOULD HAVE MADE A VIDEO.

Thank you for your illustration it was very helpful my car barely got home , I ordered a FEBI slave and found a vintage FAG master and did the job in the garage oh and BTW the tips you gave for bleeding the system were priceless. Can't thank you enough for this DIY the job took about 3 hours. Clutch is stronger than ever!!! Thank you once again

Suggestion: Don't do a tire video, with the tire full of leaf This isn't a fix, you are putting petroleum based oil on a tire, it may look nice, but will damage the rubber even more.

To every idiot that posts smartypants comments about loss of fiction - the amount of oil discussed here is negligible. You cannot compare a surface oil spill puddle to whatever amount the rubber will retain after application. Now, the smarter comments have to do with the material properties of rubber, and that is up to debate, but not to be laughed at.

burtn/spent oil has alot of the grease fibers i guess you could look at as vitamins/minerals so to speak that will go into the cracks to bind and lubricate far more so than new oil that isnt heavy enough as far as weighed down the same beneficial material dry rotted rubber needs

Other sites WARN AGAINST using petrochemicals or silicone liquids on your tires: "Buy water-based tire oils if the damage is nothing severe than some sidewall cracks. Silicone-based and petrochemical oils do more harm than good. They strip the tires off their protective wax layer and expose them to UV rays for more decay" ...

How often should I do this? I have ATVs, and they need new tires. Will it soften them up, and burn them up faster if I do it too much? I plan on taking them on the street this summer.

Besides the oil trick the poorer folks who might need to wait a month or even a bit longer to save up but still have no choice but to drive on the old rotted tires I recommend doing half the recommended amount of tire slime or similar product even if the tires hold air. (Do NOT use fix-a-flat) This is definitely better then nothing and MUCH safer. Also quite effective if the rot is not too severe in order to buy some time to save up enough money. I also recommend for safety that you buy the first TWO tires for the FRONT as soon as you have enough then again with the second set for the rear. (Buy tires 2 at a time unless buying a single is absolutely necessary) Possibly put the 1st set on the rear depending on how many miles they have. Hope this helps someone as poor as myself LOL

I'm not sure what you mean by doing half the recommended tire slime. Tire slime goes inside your tire I don't see how that's going to slow down the tire cracking, tire rot.

@@2Jeezuzisreal it's preventive in case rot breaks through the slime is "supposed" to work like on call fix-a-flat but after having used the slime Im reconsidering my comment in general in regards to the site sealant. At this point I'm no longer using slime and would probably just keep a can of fix a flat in the car. Slime has good reviews but after using I'm not a fan. My bad...

i was not able to get the o2 sensor off with the "correct" tool, but then again it was from harbor freight. i might return it. but realistically those o2 sensors may not come off even with a better quality tool. so i'm thinking of doing the same thing since it would be wise to replace it anyway. it won't be expensive, but it's a pain to work on this car. everything gets in the way and you have to take "everything" apart to work on something that should be very simple. i was surpised when you said it was easy to work on. I had an 83 toyota before and that was easy to work on. very simple everything within hand's reach. my 84 corolla which i have to bring back to life, is also very easy to work on. i need to get it back on the road. anyway your video was helpful. thanks!

Everyone should forget the 22mm=7/8" tool and go right to the 32mm deep socket placed on the hexagonal iron bung. UNDER the annoying, horizontal silver pipe. DAM pipes and heat shield are obstructions. The heat shield comes off ONLY if you vacuum freon, remove two A/C hoses from the compressor, SAWZALL sensor off as closely as possible, force heat shield upwards. Do you love punishment? But we did it in the driveway.

If you want to take it one step farther, after oiling your tires, heat the surface of the tire with a propane torch. This will expand the rubber & essentially close up the cracks permanently.

Say, I have seen that petroleum products that are not synthetic, swells and degrades EDPM rubber and our tires are of a similar matter I believe. I'm looking to PREVENT dry rot for vehicles that get few miles a year on them. What do you think of ? It is designed for EDPM rubber seals in the brake system and is not a petroleum product and I can just reuse some from bleeding brakes. That's what I want to try. Thank you
