For me, in your twenties you're working things out, career, identity. Your friends are part of that. Later, when you are focussed on your goals, people move in different directions, and hang with different people, normally associated with work. If you live in a big city, you'll find your friends change every 3-5 years. So, it's easier not to get to know people when you understand that they'll leave.
