Thanks for making this video. I find your break down of comparison info useful and very interesting. There's not enough channels that even use USBR full targets, everyone shoots whatever the flavor of the month challenge it once and their done and that doesn't really tell us anything. That's fine for fun but they don't do anything for real data gathering or testing. Great data, great shooting and great camera work as always! Hands down my favorite rimfire channel.

I have always wondered why these organizations don’t run an online monthly match, mainly for folks that don’t live in an area that actually holds matches. True you would have folks cheat, ara’s 2500 target, i wouldn’t allow an online target to be framed because of that, but there should be a way to run an online match. The cool part would be all the videos that would be made bringing awareness to the sport and maybe facilitate the forming of new clubs. Silly as it sounds it was Dales and and ASMS tv that got me interested and shooting matches in ara. I love it, found a great club and it’s my fav activity each month. But the state next door to me, utah, doesn’t have a single club running matches. If a lot of folks shooting cards started popping up online maybe it would help spread the word.
@RimfireAddicted705 күн бұрын
@@jefflayton5889 I live in Utah and for being a 2A state it sucks for shooting lol. Coming from Illinois which is very antigun I had more clubs and more places to shoot back home there than I do here. I hate this state. The reason for no online matches is there would as you say no way to keep people honest. People won't invest time or money if they can't trust the system sadly. The desire to win will always tempt someone to cheat in some fashion and there are a million ways to do so. Hell even when guys make online videos with multiple live cameras of them, the target and the range someone will claim it's faked. Rimfire central has some boards for score I believe you can post your stuff on to compare to others. It's basically on the honor system but there is no prizes or trophies.

Right, I am shooting free recoil.
@CountryRimfire12 күн бұрын
@drpietrzak is that better? I mean, can you behind the rifle pull off the same shot?
@drpietrzak12 күн бұрын
@CountryRimfire Better is relative to the gun and context. Free recoil is popular right now in benchrest rigs. I shoot free recoil from a front rest, bipod or bag. With my spring powered air rifle some "grip" is added as that is what it likes. A Bergara BMR I had was too light for free recoil and needed more of a hunter hold against the shoulder. When I was shooting silhouette a hold against the shoulder was needed. So, for me it depends on the context. Consistency is the key. Does that help?

This past weekend i shot my 6th ara match so far, and my first for the year. Using my B14r and sk standard plus shot a 2042 average across my three cards, finally breaking the 2k barrier for a match for the first time. Actually used a tip or two gleaned from your videos, so just wanted to thank you for your help. Using the sk i noticed that as the temperature rose, 40 degrees during the match, my groups opened up between the start and end of the match. In your testing so far have you done any tests on the temperature stability of any of the ammo you have shot, and if so which ammo has been the most stable? It was 38 degrees at the start of the first card and 74 at the start of the third card.
@drpietrzakАй бұрын
Temperature changes are part of what the differences over days covers. I usually see more dispersion as things drop below 40F. But, temperature makes a substantial difference.

It more important about lot#’s that work in your rifle. That doesn’t meen it will work well in any of your viewers rifle. Waste of time talking about it.
@drpietrzakАй бұрын
Well, yes and no. Many of us do not lot test for various reasons. Those that do lot test often seem to rely on a single test to make a major long-term decision. What I do here is vary lots across the head-to-heads tests. When a test is run it uses a single lot, but the next test often uses a different lot. Though the sample here is too small, the cumulative data over many head-to-heads test is suggesting that the variation within lots is reflected in the amount of variation between lots. So that for those that don't lot test the cumulative data can point out the best option for the next purchase. So while no one test, lot or non-lot tested means much, the over time and comparative performance data helps. Small samples, for any procedure, are unreliable.
@jefflayton5889Ай бұрын
This personally is the best way to test ammo, groups are good for siting but the cards tell the truth. I shoot a uk rimfire target to do my testing, I’m a cheapscate and the uk target i use has the same size 100 ring as the ara unlimited target, but it is printer friendly. But high score wins. In my testing so far my highest scores have been consistently shot with sk rifle match with eley tenex biathlon a very close second. Would love to see more testing videos using your b14r, just so i can compare your results with mine lol.

That rifle is truly drool worthy, the scope however is borderline a felony being mounted on it LOL. CntrX is a solid benchmark to compare against but we all know every rifle can be choosey. Lapua LR has been performing very well in many many builds on multiple channels and often more available. I'd be interested in your approach and thoughts/practices to cleaning when testing. Some clean barrel only before every test, some chamber only etc etc everyone has different approaches. I'd like to hear yours because you test with quality rifles, ammo and are very detailed in your data. Thank for the great video as always.
@drpietrzakАй бұрын
I appreciate your thoughts. As with across days and weather I also vary shooting front rests and bipods. I have just not gotten there for this rifle. I also vary cleaning as well. About 1/3 are chamber cleaned with dry patches down the barrel. Another 1/3 are full chamber and barrel cleaned, sometimes with a brush. The last 1/3 are shot fouled. I have used this process across other rifles. Interestingly, with cleaning, it seems for me that if there is reasonable balance between clean but fouled in seems to work. At this point I do some form of cleaning every 300 to 600 rounds. All targets are shot after the ammo stablizes into a reasonable group. This is done for each target, and again if there is a break in the middle of a process. Some people will think that fine. Others will dislike it.
