Part 4: Anschutz 1761 MSR and 2 CZ 457 MTRs on USBR (SK Standard Plus)
This is part 4 of comparing my 2 CZ 457 MTR’s to my Anschutz 1761 MSR. This video uses SK Standard Plus (SK STD+) to shoot USBR targets at 50-yards.
Overall, the CZ 457 MTR and the Anschutz 1761 MSR are similar in layout. All the rifles are in stock configuration. CZ MTR #1 has an Athlon Argos 10to 40 X56mm while the Anschutz has a Swampfox Kentucky Long 5 to 30 x 56mm for optics. CZ#2 has a Swampfox 6 to 24x50 Patriot on it. The stock designs are similar in shape and function. Both have wood stocks with a pistol grip design. The 1761 MSR (Silhouette) is intended to be shot standing and held (silhouette shooting) and has grip surfaces applied to the wood. Both are magazine fed and use an 11mm dovetail receiver to mount optics. From the factory the CZ trigger is adjustable but remains very heavy, more than a pound. CZ MTR #1 has a reduces weight trigger spring and has a weight of about 8 ounces while CZ#2 has a 3 oz Jard trigger. The 1761 has a two-stage light trigger and has a weight of about 8 ounces.
These rifles were set up similarly shooting from my Bald Eagle front rest with a Protektor #13 rear bag sitting on a custom rear bag rider to remove the impact of any cast-off in a stock. I used a Sinclair front bag rider in a Bald Eagle front rest with all of them.
The results support that the 1761 MSR outperformed the MTR by about 10 points. These results are consistent with those of the other head-to-head comparisons, suggesting that there is less shot-to-shot dispersion with the 1761 and flyers are not as extreme.
As the cost for increased precision is increased each person will have to decide if the added benefit is worth it to them. While it is for me, I suspect it may not be for man others.
