Hi, place called Goblin Coombe in Cleve, Somerset. Lovely place to visit and walk around. It does get fairly busy on the main trails with dog walkers. I have been going there for a couple of years and keep finding new places to sit and relax 👍

I've found a way of cooking rice that suits me. Bring twice as much water by volume as rice to a boil. Add rice and simmer for fifteen minutes with the lid on so as not to lose any water as steam. Take off the heat and let stand for five minutes or untill all the water has been absorbed. It will still be oiping hot. Add whatever seasoning, veg and meat at the beging. Way better than any dehydrated meal.

Thanks for sharing. I don't want to pay that kind of money for something I have made for free and works great, small and did I say free. I use a large bottle cap I fill with insulation I pinched from my attic and a small piece of window screen taken from a discarded screen. Bob's your uncle, free puck stove. 😁👍

A ground off the tab on the sisters ring/ flame extinguisher to make a slightly larger opening. Then I straightened a kilt pin, folded it in half and squashed and bent just one end to make a hook to rotate the cover. I can open it up again to use the pin to clean blocked trangia jets.

I bought the 400ml version of that bottle. It holds my milk for coffee and cacao when I go on bike rides or bushcraft outings. The neoprene smelled rather bad at first, but an overnight soak in warm water and thorough drying got rid of that.

I recently moved into my final home to retire. I had meant boxes which hasn't been opened in 3 decades. In one i found my Opinel #9 which i bought when i was 10. Wow. Memories. I took it everywhere when i was a kid. I cleaned and cooked fish with it. Today it just opens letters.

Just as an idea Onetigris sells this on Amazon - OneTigris Mesh Teepee Tent, Ultralight 1 Person Screen Room with Waterproof Bathtub Floor. Looking quickly at the spec it may work but don’t try it unless you are sure. It may be worth emailing them to confirm what fits. Good luck with your search 👍

Don't forget the stone can absorb water so that can reduce the effective fuel capacity. Try baking it to remove any water content first, then soak it in fuel.

I occasionally burn lump charcoal in my Nano. I'm not sure of the temperature, but aluminum does melt way before stainless steel. So, a stainless steel washer glued in instead? Question: Will it fold with that. I have had some huge long hot fires in a Nano, I'm guessing the price you pay is for some good quality stainless. Never had a part warp. An off brand stove is a good idea, cheaper, frankly, some perform better than what is sold for it, to clip in. The stove at the bottom should lower the center of gravity, the lower the gas line coming out a good thing, too?

The reason is because in some places is ilegal to travel with alcohol stoves. And this 'pill' pass as a whisky stone ice cube. So you can trabel with it and make alcohol gel (for hand sanitizer) and that's not s problem. Unlike a traditional stove.

Never sand the timber... If it swells up due to moisture, dry it out and the timber will shrink. When dry, get a q tip and dip it in Danish oil or Boiled Linseed Oil cut 50/50 with Pure Gum Terpene. Apply to the end grain at the collar end repeatedly until it wont absorb any more. (You can also apply to the inside of the blade slot if so inclined but I have not found that necessary).

Great little review. Having just come back from four days camping, I hardly slept a wink on one of those spongy sleep mats. Bought a second one for extra padding, but that wasn't much better. I saw the Quechua thing on the Decathlon site and thought it looked like an ingenious design. Couple of questions ... 1. Do you think a couple of sleep mats on top of the Quechua thing would work? 2. Have you actually tried a night's sleep on that thing? Cheers.

Hi, yes I have slept on it. Used a foam camping mat with my air mat on top. Was great to be off ground but takes a lot of effort to blow up. Not the best in my opinion. I recently purchased the Naturehike folding camp cot and love it. It’s the version with legs. Price difference is not much, quick and easy to put together and much lighter. The Naturehike camp cot is worth considering if it suits your needs. Check out Theoutdoorgearreview video on it. Hope that helped 👍

@RD-dl9ms Yes mine included extension legs. I bought the black version. Also purchased some feet that are used for fold up chairs to spread the load as concerned the legs would damage my tent floor. Works beautifully. Will put up a video at some point when I have used it some more. It may not be an option for you but suits my needs.

Be careful with those adapters! They are all made in china, they dont carry any form of safety compliance markings or any specs. I have several and one the top is loose, one is ok the other it can pop off the gas cannister with great ease.

An interesting video but sorry to put a dampener on your efforts as this test is so inaccurate that the information it yields is all but useless. I here outline some information which I believe may be more helpful. It is all based on my own extensive testing. 1. Puck size: The guy who came up with this idea must have done some exhaustive testing (as have I !), because his pucks are just about as good as you could make them. Two thinner pucks absorb the fuel quicker than one larger one and will also hold more fuel due to the absorptive nature of the stones. Two 40mm diam. X 15mm deep pucks (2 x 15g dry wt.) will hold approx 19g (or 24mls) of fuel total. 2. When using these stoves It is important that the water container sits directly on top of the stones to achieve max. performance. This is because the main heat from the stones is transferred to the pot and water by conduction. If the pot does not touch the hot stones the only heat it receives is by means of less efficient convection. A lot of heat is lost to the atmosphere. 3. If you use the stones this way you will match the advertised performance. 4. For maximum efficiency outdoors, a windshield, at least tall enough to protect the burning stones (50mm), should be used. In breezy conditions a windshield tall enough to protect the cooling wind from reaching the pot should be used. 5. It is also beneficial to stand the stones on a metal ring or disc which has in itself minimum contact with the ground or other supporting surface. The stones get so hot that any normal supporting surface is likely to be damaged or even burned. Further note: two stones is the most efficient setup for boiling water. One stone will take longer and more than two stones will likely waste fuel. The more stones used will generate more heat and hence produce a quicker boil. Using more stones does not extend the burn time to much degree but only increases the amount of heat produced. The laws of physics dictate that all things being equal a set wt/volume of fuel will only produce the same amount of heat irrespective of the type of stove used. The difference between the stoves is in the way that the stoves utilise the heat produced.

Nice method. But, what to do if you lost the blocking collar? Without the block a no.6 or 7 is quite dangerous tool. Opinel does not sell replacement collars, because knives are already cheap (I was told by a major reseller).
