Do you happen to have a link, or the name of this painting? I would love to get my hands on a reproduction to hang on my wall.

Also known as 'the theme from 'Family Plot," - Hitchcock's final film and shamelessly (the music..) ripped off by that hack, John Williams and presented as his own composition

Bleak, but very beautiful. Not nearly so austere as the Sibelius Fourth Symphony, which I love above all his other works.

honestly the best recording of this i’ve heard. the craft recordings have the best singers but the ensemble isn’t together and in the boulez recordings it just seems all over the place to me. this is very concise and accurate, bummer the recording isn’t higher fidelity
@wyattk.43044 ай бұрын
oh i see this is boulez, just not the studio recordings he did with berlin phil and london symphony. how interesting

The cruel thing about a piece like this is that it is like a window that let us look into a world that is too good to be true. And when the song ends, the image fades and we begin to understand...

One of several pieces of music, this among the finest, which evoke bittersweet feelings of country walks in the past before motorways and industrial estates.

More great music by Holst. The play/ballet stage work for "Morning of The Year" was considered "confusing" by the British music critics, & wasn't well accepted. But the music stands alone as a terrific work, for sure.

I always knew that Vaughan- Williams used that piece of old Somerset folk song in his lovely piece, but never knew that Holst had too. This is a new discovery for me. It's wonderful to know that the County I have lived in for forty years inspired such beautiful music. I wonder if both V-W & Holst were to come to Somerset now, whether they would find it so peaceful, and tranquil? Maybe, in places!
