I think Way of Kings is the book to beat. They’re all so great, it’s impossible to pick. But I found WoK to have the best climax with the best build-ups and the most satisfying resolutions. And the tie breaker to me is that the 10-chapter run at the end of WoK never got matched by the others books. But I can’t choose between the other ones after WoK though.

You came to the right place!! Have you read other Sanderson cosmere books besides the Stormlight Archive? If not then definitely check out others like Mistborn or Secret Projects like Sunlit Man. If you’ve already read those, try the Red Rising series (we’re just reading and reviewing those now and Book 1s review is on the channel) If you’ve already read all those we can recommend some more! Cheers!

The con games are some of my favorite things. For the Lost Metal one, you kind of stumbled upon it. There were Wayne hats with QR codes scattered around, and they led you to the next hat location. For Defiant it was much more apparent what to do because you joined a “flight” and you had to pick your team. If you completed your team’s mission, you got a pin themed to your team. I’m excited to see what they do for Stormlight!

My brothers… Robin Hobb is THE #1 reason I’m going to Dragon Steel. I didn’t even know if she’d be there but I had a deep hope she’d show up. If you decide to read her stuff prior to DS let me know and I can help point you in the right direction.

That's awesome! Honestly there is a good chance that we do before the convention! Any recommendations on what we should start with?

@@NextChapterYT So, all but 3 of her books are set in the same world. Almost everyone reads them in publication order, but there are three options on where to start which can depend on your personal preferences about books and style. 1st option: Start at the beginning with Assassin’s Apprentice. This is the first book chronologically as well as publication date. It’s the beginning of Fitz’s story. Fitz is the central character in three distinct trilogies. These three trilogies are all written in first person from his point of view. Some people struggle with 1st person pov, so… Option 2 is starting with the Live Ship books. Ship of Magic is the first in the trilogy. These three books are set a ways south of the Fitz trilogy and have only passing nods to Fitz’s books, which are concurrent in the timeline. They have multiple perspectives and are written in third person. They’re a little more action oriented as well. Though it’s Robin’s character work that really sets her apart and is very strong in all her books. Option 3 is the least usual. You could read the Soldier Son trilogy. These are her only books not set in The Realm of the Elderlings. I love these books, but they are again 1st person and from a singular perspective. Also, they’re not widely regarded as her best work… which is odd because I think they’re fantastic! I guess it boils down to what kind of story telling you like. If you are ok with 1st person then I’d say start at the beginning. If you don’t then give Live ships a go and see if she books you there. Here is a helpful graphic of the books in the series www.robinhobb.com/images/rhinfographic.jpg

Robin Hobb wrote the Realm of the Elderlings which is a series of series that take place in the same world. The first trilogy is the Farseer trilogy which consists of Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin, and Assassin's Quest. There are 4 more series following up on that (16 books total). I am on the third trilogy, called the Tawny Man trilogy, but paused after book 2 for my Stormlight reread. I am very excited to see her at Dragonsteel.

If you want a good tie-in game, you should try out Dune Imperium. Most tie-in games are pretty mediocre, but this one is one of my favorite board games, period.

Kinda funny I had the opposite reaction to you guys. actually really liked the pacing in the first half. I thought the pacing in the second half to be pretty bad at times. Also Murtagh makes some pretty dumb choices in the second half. That said i overall enjoyed the book and would recommend to any eragon fan!

Both Vasher and Arsteek are returned with divine breath, really really old. Even if Arsteel was better, Vasher is still older than all the mortals in SLA that he would outdo them in swordsmanship.

I've read the first three books and then gave up because I felt like I had given it more than a fair go and I tried to like it so much because a lot of people who normally like the same books as me liked it ... I feel like this book and series was probably overhyped for me. I was pretty disappointed in it. Austin from 2toramble gave the Red Rising a 10 out of 10 which I still find kind of horrifying... I mean for me it's a popcorn book and not even the best of the genre. The language is melodramatic. I feel like Darrow's tone is super self-absorbed and super pompous - hard to get around when it's first person, but first person POV can be done without pomposity. Spoilers for book 1: I really dislike how the character of Eo was essentially fridged. She has no other role except to suffer, die and then give Darrow a cause ... As you progress through the series, I really dislike how Pierce Brown uses sexual assault as a shorthand for character development i.e. we have grey characters and the way we find out who is 'truly bad' and 'beyond redemption' are the ones who commit sexual assault - mostly on women... I will be interested to see if this series stacks up over time and if people will still love it as much as they do now... I really love Sanderson, Connie Willis, Martha Wells, Abercrombie, George RR Martin etc so it's not violence that did it .. I think it's just the writing style. The second book is a bit better and there are some good and compelling character developments but overall this is one of those series that I don't think I will ever want to re-read... I know I am totally in the minority here and usually feel very lonely in my belief that the Red Rising series is overrated :D

Such a great book. And like Darrow learning truth, the world just gets bigger and better though the Series.
