Love seeing you again this year! Do your students have difficulty reading the Progress Monitoring passages? I have some struggling third graders this year who have great difficulty reading our Exemplar tests from Wonders. It’s very challenging. Writing too! Ugh

Love your videos! What do you have them do for writing after the lesson? Is it free choice? wondering how you motivate kids with ideas who don’t want to write once they have finished the lesson. And I know you have an economy system.. what do they get paid for besides their jobs and how/when do they spend it? I have colleagues that are against using things like this, but I’ve used smile sticks that they can trade in for things and kids have loved it! It can be hard to make sure I’m handing them out enough🤪

Thank you for sharing. I will be teaching 2nd grade this year, too. I start the year graphing. I put an x & y axis with washi tape that stay there permanently. I use mini sized post its, number them 1-25?, and laminate & cut them out. Then, I put magnets on the back. Every day I will ask a question ( like What is your favorite color? , How many people in your family? What's your favorite kind of cookie?) . They put their number where they choose. Later, we analyze the graph. Bonus, I used 2 colors, one for odd mumbers and one for even. I may ask questions about that, too.
@abubblyclassroomАй бұрын
STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!! Im totally stealing this! 😍 what a great way to have those math conversations and you can even encourage them to create follow up questions/things they notice. (That is always such a struggle for my 2nd graders)

I teach 1st grade. We just adopted Wonders, but we are not using the phonics part. We are replacing that with UFLI. I am trying to wrap my head around how I am going to structure my reading block. Please help!
@abubblyclassroomАй бұрын
We don't do the phonics either! The first year was TOUGH figuring it all out. I keep it to a 12-15 min. mini-lesson following this sequence: Day 1: genre, essential question, interactive read aloud, vocab Day 2: shared read (workbook story) focusing on 1-2 skills Day 3: Read and correct homework together (i assign one of the progress monitoring passages with questions each week) Day 4: respond to reading page (in the workbook) with the shared read (workbook story) Day 5: start the anchor text (textbook story) Day 6: finish the anchor text (textbook story) Day 7: Respond to reading page (in the workbook) with the anchor text (textbook story) Day 8: Read and correct homework together Day 9: Go back through anchor text and look at vocabulary in context. Students complete the anchor text test as a classwork grade Day 10: paired selection

Supply Boxes? Is that new? Doesn't that defeat the bonding time of parents and their kids? I remember looking forward to that. 😥
@abubblyclassroomАй бұрын
It is pretty new I guess! It is easier and cheaper for sure, then the parents and kids can go get the more "fun personalized" stuff to add to it. I definitely would go shop for my own though - it is the kickoff of the season!
