hold it 2 to 4 inches up. I used 2.5 inches. First time DIY, looks good to me.

Would of made more sense to popped lines on both sides and came off the top of the first shingle 111/4 5/8+5/8=111/4 not 111/2

Just wanted to say that the top piece can eventually fall off when using this method. I found this video looking for a best way to repair after a top section fell off during a storm. The original installer used silicon just like in this video... granted that was probably 20-25 years back... but it did eventually fail.

Same here! Easiest to understand and replicate! You're not just a doer, you're a teacher and if you're going to make videos you need to swing both bats.

What a shitty roof. No edge. No Step Flashing and no valley. And than a shitty repair on top of that.

Good job. My only suggestion would be to chalk lines right from the start. That way there's no fudging a little here or there. Ten minutes in the beginning will save a lot of .... thinking and talking with the crew in the heat of the battle.

What don't you like about CertainTeed?
@Lifes_Apprentice
@Lifes_Apprentice 12 күн бұрын
Super small common bond. The tar strip sucks compared to other brands. They are heavy, which is not neccessary. They are prone to slight variations in color from bundle to bundle in my experience. They are also more expensive than other brands that are just as good or better

@@Lifes_Apprentice Good to know! Maybe that explains why the bond between many of my CertainTeed shingles failed after 13 years! Thank you for responding back.

@@TravelwithNJSteveandSue As a professional roofer for 20 years I would never buy and install them. I do work for builders and that is what they buy for some reason...Unfortunately that is the way it is but I would never buy them for one of my customers

Just purchased a home and my insurance is threatening to cancel my home insurance because of the roof being “outdated”… you have me the courage to try and do this myself. Luckily my home is a lot smaller, so it won’t be as bad lol. This Texas heat is going to be killer though! 110 degrees here!
