Hi Mike, A solidly engineered watch with a well lumed modern looking dial and decent movement (- shame about the bracelet screws eh) But for the price it is, only, yet another 'dive watch'. Nice dial - shame about the price ..

I bought a Phoibos a few years ago specifically because I liked the Octopus logo and the octopus embossed on the case back. I also liked the wavy design on the dial. The rest of the watch is fine,.

I agree about the chapter ring. Aside from aesthetics, I think a good chapter ring aids legibility. Aside from that, a tempting offering. Phoibos make some good stuff. I wish I hadn't missed out on the original left-handed Apollo. Thanks for the review! Aside from the straight information, I love the ice crystals in some of those side shots.

Not familiar with this brand. Glad to see they put a Miyota 9015 in it, vs a 8XXX caliber.

Thanks for the review Mike. I think if the date window was framed by a mirror image of the 9 o'clock marker the dial would be more balanced, still a very nice watch though IMO.

I like the care taken around the bottom of the Roman numerals to make a circle on the dial. Agree that the sub second had could be done better. Perhaps something that goes better with the MOP sundial material. Black?
@mywatchreviewsКүн бұрын
I am contemplating making a video where I remove the sub hand, strip the paint and then thermally blue it. It really depends on how well I can polish it first .

Interesting piece, but would only be interested if they made a northern hemisphere version. I think for many purchasers, the “Japanese movement,” would be perceived as higher quality.

Nice review, thank you. Great 4k and your lighting is very nice. Just a couple of notes if you are interested: Might want to wipe it down well before doing close-ups. 4k really shows. You might double check that you've taken all of the plastic off as well before starting your review. Please don't take these as criticisms, they are only here to help you take your channel/reviews to the next level. Keep up the work and thanks for this review.
@mywatchreviewsКүн бұрын
Close ups are all filmed outside, things float in. Other marks will be because I wear the watch usually for 2-3 days to give a proper review. As for the plastic I nearly always leave its on under the clasp for longevity.

I think it’s a beautiful piece, but it’s definitely not quite for me and that new movement… goodness, not sure how many people who know anything about watches would be ok with that. But then again, maybe that’s the whole point, this watch is targeted to the general public more than enthusiasts. Thanks for the great review.

I wish San Martin would have these styles in larger case options. I purchased the SN0116 during the 11/11 sale and didn't even take the plastic off it. With the tapered bracelet, the watch just appeared dainty on my large wrist. Beautiful watch but I turned around and sold it at a loss...

I posted this on another review of this watch, but it really applies to all modern San Martins... At the price point San Martin is now asking for their watches, I think it's time that they include color-matched date wheels on all of their new offerings.
@mywatchreviews10 күн бұрын
@@mikescafidi fair enough. I personally don’t like them. Had some on Phoibos and I can’t see them properly. Equally this means san Martin have to fit them and as far as I can work out they don’t really do anything. To fit a date ring to an MH35 you have to strip off quite a lot and then reassemble. Time is money. Or they all bespoke smaller batches which would impact the pricing significantly. For a £200 watch from this brand you are already getting way more extras than you do with mainstream.
@mikescafidi10 күн бұрын
@@mywatchreviews San Martin has been doing color-matched date wheels on NH35s for quite some time now. In fact, they do it on current iterations of models like the SN0118, SN0116 and SN0113. Just for reference, the price of an SN0118 is exactly the same as the SN0129GB you reviewed here. Based on that, I think we can safely assume that manufacturing costs are not the issue. However, at this point in their brand maturity, they should be focusing on the details. Build quality got them to where they are today, but it's the little things that will justify the cost of their new offerings.
@mywatchreviews10 күн бұрын
I forgot they did some. I know from my watch repair experience that it’s not a quick job to change them so perhaps Seiko can produce at factory small batches in colours. I stand my ground that for me at least anything other than black or white is much less visible

I purchased this watch during the 11.11 sale. Initially I thought it was great but found that in low light it's hard to read the time. The hands are a bit narrow and the color blends with the second hand. I now wish that I went with the non solar model with hour markings and larger hands

My criticism is that it's yet another dive watch. I have the Chinese pottery influenced one which is more money (but a Miyota 9000 series movement) which I think is really nice. Were it not that I already own too many dive style watches, I'd be tempted by this one.

I like it. On the new "globe" they have increased the exaggeration of the topography compared to the original. With accurate scaling, the relief would not be visible on either version. I don't love the change but it's pretty subjective.
