The grey one would be my number one pick out of these 3. I just love how the hour markers, dial and the day and date windows all come together.

I love the red dial with the faceted crystal, that restoration turned out beautifully. The thing that stuck with me from it is that pallet fork. It's retained the same function with a wildly different shape. Love it.
@mywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
Apparently a fork like this is seen in a few pocket watches also.

Very cool. I didn’t know Ricoh made watches. I also didn’t know they were a Japanese Company so that’s how clever I am. I like the red and bracelet on the green. Thanks for the great review!

I love the gray dial and red dial, especially the gray dial! All three are classic '70s design, and I do love the Ricoh brand. Great work on refreshing these handsome time pieces!

Mike, you are a very evil man. All three are great. You now have me wanting to find these.🤣🤣🤣. I have a couple of Timexs with the faceted crystals and love them. The first one I had I lost and only within a year ago found it with a red and orange like lightening strike dial. Awesome job on the restoration and I would say keep them all. Cheers 🍻

As usual, a good amount of information rather than a set platitudes. As others have done, I have used your 'myretrowatches' videos to aid with my own reconstruction. It was good to see the other Ricoh's.

Great rehab jobs on really nice watches. As you say, phenomenal design with definite oriental punctuation in your eyes, and I agree. Brought one from India which is broken, hunt continues.
@anthonycaryl1079 Жыл бұрын
All really neat, got to love the facets on the red one but they're right up my street. Yes please to a faceted crystal watch video. I think the hands on the grey one are excellent in they mirror the dial markers rather than just having 'enclosed' coloured centres like most watches and with enough consideration it would probably be the one i picked. Love the case shape and green on the last, but i'm less keen on gold even though it does work well with the green. Real shame the dial is so messed up, but hopefully if it's been heavily tinkered with what's left should be fairly solidly attached so the visual appeal isn't at any further risk

Mike that gray Ricoh is very rare. I love my Ricohs and have not seen that one often. There is only one I see up for auction for $200 US dollars from Argentina. And it is not in the same shape as yours. That one is a keeper!

My father's old watch is a ricoh 061437. It has an unusual case shape and a beautiful green + gold dial I'd say but it's different from yours. I thought it was lost or stolen a long time ago but my brother had it for some reason. I took it for a service and tried to clean the case a bit but the crystal after I sanded and polished it seems to have a fine grain texture to it and it's not the clearest (still much better than before). I wish I could replace the dial but it has an unusual oval shape and no gasket... I'm still thinking of sending it to a restorer that has a laping machine because it has a lot of angles and facets with different finishes. I might also improvise a laping machine myself and try to make it better but with the crystal I don't think I can do anything more. It works fine and the winding is much smoother (rotor too) than my seiko 5, the movement feels of a much higher quality. the day change button doesnt want to change the day any-longer, i think it´s the spring inside the movement that the button pushes onto that lost its springiness and gets bent when i push the button. it did not work before the service and only worked for a little while after the service ...
@mywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
The spring is considerable. If it’s not working then it could be missing or out of place. Lapping is a very expensive skill so you have to really want the case doing to part with £200 or more from any good lapinist

I like all those, and I like having day and date displays. The grey dialled one is interesting and unusual in the way that the date and date are displayed although I would have thought there was space for an index at 3 o'clock? I love the combination of green and gold, and normally that would be an absolute winner for me, but the hands seem a little chunky and the second hand is very short so that it somehow doesn't quite work as well as it might otherwise, so it is that lovely red dial which is the winner for me, and especially on that mesh bracelet. But I'd be happy to own any of those.
@mywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
They are all so different and it must have been a mad time in the 70s in Japan!
@Bristol1 Жыл бұрын
So the green one has a very similar outline as a Zodiac Olympus, which is a nice shape in my opinion. It's a shame the edges of the dial are in such poor shape. Thankfully it's not visible when it's cased. I think of the three, my favorite is the red dial with faceted crystal. Thanks for showing us your Ricohs! Cheers!
@daveyoder9231 Жыл бұрын
Very enjoyable! Always enjoy Ricoh watches, different "feel" from the Seikos, Orients, and Citizens of the same era, even though they do share an overall aesthetic. RED dial caught my eye first, definitely like the result of your efforts, and really like the bracelet. That sets the watch off nicely. GRAY dial doesn't catch me the same way. Those indices put me off somewhat. The texture of the dial is very, very nice. GREEN dial is my least favorite of the three. The combination of green and gold is a classic, but is hard to complement to many clothes. Faceted crystal watches? Yes, please! Thanks as always for a truly informative and thoughtful watch review!

Thank you. Great comment, This is what is so good we all like different things. My tastes in watches can be appalling sometimes, I buy stuff I will probably never wear but I like how bonkers or unusual they are.

I find these tremendously appealing. Were I a younger man with your skills or perhaps a lot of money, I really think I would start buying Ricohs. In terms of preference, I'd maybe place the grey one a bit ahead of the red one, and then the green one at the end, but they're all fascinating.

Japan was a colourful place in the 70s I think. At least on peoples wrists.

Great content, Mike. Out of interest, knowing you have a pretty extensive watch collection, how often do these get wrist time? And which one do you wear the most ?
@mywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
Trust you to ask a question like this ! I pick up what I feel like on the morning sometimes it’s vintage sometimes one of the “homage” it’s hard to look at Watch boxes and decide to be fair. Many don’t get worn but I like them because they are different. The Ricoh, I can’t remember the last time I wore the grey or the green to be honest…
