Here in Nova Scotia, when we know the sleet is coming we leave the snow down so the crust of ice is easy to remove. That's the first time I've seen using a tarp in 56 years :) We just use a floor broom from the front hall, or if the snow is deep enough to need it, and with some finesse, you can plane the shovel over the car leaving just a couple inches, without touching paint. When we feel the rain is starting we get all the snow off so the rain can melt everything clean. OK, i gotta say, after saying watching you was watching me, hearing you was hearing me, with the plastic. Made me laugh, been there :) always some bullshit in the way, usually something we left there :) All in all it looked a fun day for everyone. Community is nice to have.

My girlfriend and I were visiting family in Ohio just before this storm hit. We were supposed to stay until Sunday. I woke to weather alerts Saturday and said it's time to go. Driving through Kentucky and Tennessee with weather like this is a white knuckle ride.

Idk why I’m watching this, I’ve lived in ND my whole life. This is normal for me. I find it fun watching you fellas struggle down there a lil further south! 😂 Bout time it wasn’t only us! Few tips: Prep for snow removal is very important. Pick up anything that’ll be buried under snow and ice (like your chunk of plastic.) Big one is extension cords for plugging block heaters in. I’ve chewed up many an extension cord. Get rid of them sheer pins. Those are infuriating. I put 5/16 grade 8 bolts through them holes. Only gotta replace those once every few years. You’ll go through 10 sheer pins in a single snowfall sometimes. You had mentioned being worried about gas but, the cup worth of gas is well worth the time to stay on top of snow removal rather than waiting til it’s all hard packed ice. Snowblowers are great with fluffy snow, they can’t do much with ice. Use that electric starter. You only want the pull start as your backup cuz that pull start will break when you need it most. The electric starters can be fussy and will eventually fail and you’ll need that pull start. That’s all I can think of from my snowblowing days. I shelled out the 8 grand for a snow plow on my pickup bout 5 years ago. Well worth the money up here, not so much down there. Anything is better than shoveling though! Cool video Brad. I love seeing neighbors helping each other. I plow out my entire block most of the time. Our neighbor behind us saved my wife’s life this summer rushing her to the hospital while she was having a stroke. Neighbors are a real blessing to have if you can become close with them.

That machine is a champ. More than enuff power. The worst possible snow conditions to test it in. Your cat looked totally mesmerized by the snow 🤯 first time perhaps? Gr8 show as always bro 👍 I enjoy blowing my neighbors driveways and sidewalks. I guess I enjoy the most is helping with a difficult task. Lots of snow here in Saskatchewan.

I'm quite a bit of an old hermit crab. I really like to keep to myself. Been in this neighborhood for two plus years. At times like these maybe I need to introduce myself to my neighbors. I'm sure us old farts can help the younger ones and vice versa. Thanks for the inspiration, and may GOD bless. BTW, I used to be jelaous of folks with setback homes with long driveways. Maybe not so much anymore.

I hope any of your would-be critics watch this video. The unhesitating neighborliness was awesome. My one neighbor on one side who barely speaks English would totally do this for all of us... on the other side, spoken maybe 3 times in as many years. California could use some training in this department! One minor detail, we never have snow here... but maybe one of those dozens of mowers you got! Ha ha.

Snowblowers are like Fire Extinguishers.... you keep them maintained in hopes that you don't have to use it. My snowblower is probably about 30 years old now... but I make sure it runs every fall, so when the day comes, it's ready. Some winters I didn't need it at all........ other winters I needed it 2-3 times every day. This year it's been used to clear about 2-3 inches off the drive quickly.

A snowblower beats a shovel any day! Looks like the snowblower is working pretty well too! If it had some wheel weights it might help keeping traction? I know they do sell small tire chains for these. Probably a good thing you waited to clear stuff or that ice would have been on the bottom and harder to remove. Good call! Also i'd try and find some hardened pins even small bolts/nuts would prob work as long as they're hardened type.

Back in 92 or93 we got a total of 73" of snow for the season first snow that year we got two feet of the white stuff will never forget that year and every so often we get another foot of snow with freezing rain and only nine degrees outside all dug out by hand no fancy snow blowers, cuz where i was living in Pennsylvania houses were too close together nowhere to put the snow but the sidewalk and then dig out your vehicle after the Boro plowed you in i hate winters anymore. And now if you don't clean off your sidewalk you get a fine from the Boro. What you have their my friend is nothing to us up here in the north. But anyway Brad your a good man for always helping your neighbors we need more people like you in this crazy world.

@@KaelynDreyer you don't have the ethics and education background i have. i am 46 years old and i never had any car. i never bought gasoline. i don't make noises with cars, i don't need roads that overheats the air. i don't want electric cars that makes tire noises and can kill another of my dogs, again, i do need to run air purifiers because my house is surrounded by constant traffic. your normalized comfort commodity has waste that i do smell, like a second hand smoker. you don't feel sorry for your exhaust maing fumes. you don't know what is it like walking 12 km carrying 22 kg of food supply because i decline using the bus. not even 20 years ago when i was a postman i used the bus, so i had to carry 150% of letters without the service of the car refilling that 50%. even driving with bicycle, and working from 7 to 10, that's fifteen hours, 6 days a week for thousand coins per month salary. and non stop RUNNING. have you seen postmen running like it's the olympic games? that was me. a world without cars is possible. but it takes 3 testicles. you are poisoning that white snow with the fumes. you should respect and don't touch the environment. of course it melts sooner if you touch. 2 years ago it snowed here but only for half an hour. and i still hoard like a treasure the snow i could store. but hasn't snowed properly (1 meter height) since 1985. the only snow is at 200 km at the pyrinees. and i will never have a car to go there. if you don't understand me, study to josé mújica, the ex president of uruguay, the humble who lowered his salary and declined all luxery.

@arcadepiano That's awesome you are able to do that. Many people are not. One person's experience can be drastically different than another's. Clearing walk paths and driveways so one can get around is not a bad thing. Using a snow blower to achieve that goal is just using a tool to accomplish a task. That's it. Using a gas powered device for a very short term is not going to kill the armoshere regardless of what media tells you. No worries You're 46 and I'm 60. Why that matters is anyone's guess but I assure you that consumer gasoline powered anything is not a climate issue. Rest easy in that knowledge

I have experienced every variation of ice storms over the years, some that start off as freezing rain, then turn into the snow and vice versa. The worst I experienced was Valentines day of 1990. It caused so much damage, it looked like a tornado came through town. Trees and power lines were falling over. That is my biggest fear now, my neighbor has a huge tree branch that goes over my roof, it it were to fall, it would take my house out. You certainly have your hands full!
