Over here in Scotland they changed the law so every house needs an interlinked heat, smoke and co2 alarm. If one goes off, they all go off! It's a fkin' nightmare!😂

The alarms detect particulates in the that are indicative of smoke from a fire. Dust settling on the interior can trigger an alarm. My alarms did this in my new house as the drywall crew left a lot of dust around any openings. Important to note that they will detect condensation and temperature changes as well. Leaving a window or door open in winter near a detector can cause a false alarm.

I pulled down one of my 5 smoke alarms the other day to steal a 9v for a guitar pedal. There was no replaceable battery in it. I couldn't even open it without breaking it. It was installed last year when I got a new panel. They are made to be thrown away when they die now.

For all my music gear I now use Duracell Procell batteries. They're the industrial version that aren't directly marketed to consumers. Normally they're a bit cheaper but last absolute ages! I found out about them because they were the long life version used in certain brands of smoke alarm.

Did you know that camera lenses made

Camera lenses used thorium oxide in the glass between the 40s and 70s. It's not dangerous as long as it's not ingested.
