I also did a lot of research in this area because I have high LDL (172) and I had been told to take Statins but I did not want to. I have this level for many years. I swim 3km every other day. I eat very normally and avoid sugar if possible. My heart doctor did many tests and scans and I don't have any discernable issue. I fact I have multiple peer-reviewed papers saying the same thing, that there is no positive correlation between LDL level and mortality. In fact they found slightly negative correlation. Furthermore, there was a paper describing low cholesterol from taking Statins does not change the heart disease rate, regardless. That to me is quite persuasive that the common wisdom of LDL is wrong, but almost all doctors are still prescribing to this same formula. That is quite puzzling, especially in today's big data environment. I am glad these doctors are doing these study.
I would like to do a comprehensive health check up under your watch, if you live in Bay Area and are available to be my primary doctor. I had some blood test done recently, alarm high cholesterol HDL 98, LDL 160, but everything else is good. I swim daily in the summer, hike regularly in other seasons. I'm not ovevrweight, glucose level is good even though I eat lots sweet. Do I need to low my cholesterol? Thanks!
