If he spent a little more time playing the guitar instead of fooling around with the volume and tone controls and pickup positions,he could concentrate on his playing more

Larry was once in a trio with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin. John and Paco got sick of Larry's drinking, and brought in Al Di Meola as a replacement, forming the world famous "Guitar Trio."

There are about a dozen truly great jazz guitarists but George is by far my favourite.

The version of "Goin' Home" from the live album, Undead, is still the best, IMO but this video is a treat!

Yes, completely agree... I always find his intro on Undead is better than the live intros (eg Woodstock) but this video is pretty much it! I wonder if this video was recorded before Woodstock- both 69... ?

Whats this a spaghetti Western? Alluring B & W cinematography. A tour de force of visual art depicting the heavy underground band TYA, a cult band, could have been filmed by Sergio Leone ,

I've seen the original line up five times back in the day at the Fillmore and Winterland in SF. They were the best live group of the era without a doubt. Also got to hang out and meet Ed and Randy at the Whiskey in LA in the eighties when they played there as a trio at that point. The first four albums were classics. I heard they were asked to play Woodstock, but their management put the brakes on that one, wonder what that would have done to their career? Also saw the original line up reunite in Long Beach for the last time in 91 (with the Doobie Brothers) btw - here's what the LA Times said - "The five members of Spirit, who had not played together since 1976, poked fun at themselves, appearing on stage with white wigs and false beards and canes. Their drummer, Ed Cassidy, is now 68 and bald". Of course Ed, Randy and John have now passed RIP.

Too bad Randy didn't take Jimi up on his offer. I think Hendrix viewed Randy as a creative equal.

Alvin Lee and Terry Kath are not on lists of great guitarists. TYA blew the roof off with Going Home at their Woodstock performance. I had every album except the first one (couldn't find it).

THE TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION: Biggest mindblower is knowing that SPIRIT were formed after Randy California's stint as the second guitarist backing Jimi Hendrix when he was discovered in NYC. Jimi wanted to take Randy along to London but at only age 15 his parents wouldn't let him go. Then he formed SPIRIT with his stepfather Ed Cassidy!

Meanwhile all the dorks were saying eric Clapton was god. George benson was thousand miles ahead of Clapton and Hendrix. Hendrix was innovative and drugged out so it resonated but for pure amazing guitar George was overlooked.
