I would probably pay $1000 to see the Pirate's World performance in Florida of Jumpin' Jack Flash that's on the And Live album.There has to be video of that somewhere judging by the quality of the audio.That's my personal holy grail.I see that I could die in peace

No smoke and mirrors here - just kick-ass high energy virtuosic rock and roll. Johnny at his peak - singing, playing and moving with total control and power. His leads gliding like electric songbirds, his raw smoky vocals, backed up by these amazing musicians in total sync - this performance is simply fantastic. Many thanks for posting.

I saw Johnny Winter And at Fillmore West in 1970 or 71. I saw lots of live shows back in the day, but I never saw anything better than this one. Every single song was an unrelenting, high energy attack. Johnny and Ric were flat out magic together. I think Derringer really brought out the best in Johnny. Ric plays so tight of a rhythm. Clearly great chemistry all over. I remember Ric busting out these great rhythms and playing his licks, and then Johnny would jump in for his turn. Ric's great playing pushed Johnny to put it all out there. Almost like Johnny was saying, "I know he's great, but watch this!" Fantastic!! What a shame they couldn't have played a few more years together. Glad I have this great memory! I saw Johnny a year or two later at an Edgar Winter concert (Derringer too). Edgar brought Johnny on stage to play Still Alive and Well. As much as I love Johnny, and I do, he never got back to the level of Second Winter and Johnny Winter And. Ric Derringer, on the other hand, went on to make an almost endless amount of fantastic music. If you don't believe it, just listen to his music. Drivin' Sideways, Crying Won't Help You (best version I ever heard), You've got to Love Her with a Feeling, Street Corner Talking, Beyond the Universe, I didn't Ask to be Born and on and on.....

This is gold! Randy Z., Rick Derringer's brother on drums is as rare as it gets. Too bad he was unable to continue with the band or play at all anymore. Bassist Randy Jo Hobbs died in 1993. Another victim of drugs. The Winter brothers & Rick Derringer inspired me to play music. Thanks & God bless!

It seems odd today that he would have gotten rid of Randy Shannon, but I think he or his management wanted to go in a more rock and roll direction, so he basically recruited the McCoys as his new band. The rest as they say, is history. You can argue about whether or not this period and the subsequent lineup of Hobbs, Floyd Radford and Richard Hughes are his best, but what you cannot deny is that most of us know about him because of what he recorded between say 1970 and 1976. Johnny never had a problem attracting talented guys to play with him.

I was fortunate to be at one of those live shows where that Johnny Winter And Live album was recorded. Johnny's solo on Jumpin Jack Flash still sends chills up my spine when I hear it...Johnny kicks into it, bass starts walkin..Rick starts that driving ryhthm part...Johnny yellin "drive drive!" ..oh man ..I'll never forget it! what a rush!..😎...I still play this great album loud.

Hi Ric ! This record was my holy grail when I was growing up. I cut my teeth listening to your parts on the home stereo, as Johnny wailed away on one side, you were providing some of the funkiest, tightest guitar parts that Johnny sound even better, that’s when I realized how integral rhythm guitar was to rock n roll. Thanks for the inspiration!

If i’m not mistaken, Randy was on drums here for this european tour, he got sick in the UK and had to leave the band, he was replaced by Bobby Caldwell after an audition in Florida, and the Johnny Winter And Live album was recorded soon after at Pirates World and the Fillmore East with Bobby on drums.

And you know what? Mr. Rick Derringer, if you’re reading this someday, the show was in San Diego and it was truly unforgettable. Today I’m 66, a professional musician, mostly keyboards, and I love all kinds of music. That evening still stands out as one of the most perfect concerts I’ve ever seen. The musical chemistry between you and Johnie is simply unforgettable. I’ve always been a fan of his, but I think you pushed him to new Heights. I know what it’s like to work your whole life and wonder if people really get what you’re trying to do. I did and I still do. Thanks for that.

Thanks so much for the share! This is about as rare as they come, as there are so very few vids available / released of Johnny Winter And playing live, it's a damn shame. I wore the grooves right of this record when it first came out, which I still feel is one of the best, and definitely one of the most under-rated rock albums of the 70's. This was a one-shot deal, with Johnny moving away from straight-ahead blues, to a more mainstream rock album. With some fine playing, writing, and vocals from Derringer, backed by the rest of the McCoys, Johnny succeeded in turning out FANTASTIC album, IMO.
@zerogreenred

The Johnny Winter And Live (1971?) was a great album and as you say, very under-rated. I probably listened to it a 1000 times when I was an aspiring player. Johnny never received the proper promotion he deserved. The media made Jimi the poster-child-God of the Guitar, but of course Jimi was creative beyond belief; his writing really set him apart and above most players of the time. My favorite Live cut from the album; Little School Girl. Most players in our area didn't know this album existed or didn't care; most were into Beck-Clapton-Page groove, I was a more Johnny, Jimi and Carlos kind of guy. Have a good day. The music of that time will never be equaled.

I hear ya on listening to that album 1000 times, brother! I can't remember what I wore out first - my needle or the grooves. My favorite from that masterpiece album was "It's My Own Fault" - with the back-and-forth between Johnny and Rick. I'm pretty sure it was 1970, because I was in 9th grade and it almost tempted me to switch from 4 to 6 strings. I'm a huge SRV fan, and I haven't heard much said on it, but I'm pretty sure Johnny was as big an influence on Stevie as Hendrix obviously was. But, like you both said, this guy was way underrated and many missed his boat. Glad I wasn't one of them! Peace

The universe bestows great karma upon you for this upload. Thank you so much! Rare enough to see any footage of Johnny playing this song. I don't think he played it much (if at all?) since he and Rick went separate ways after JW And. Beautiful, mega-rare straight-on shots of Rick at 3:02-3:08. Thank you again for posting this treasure.
