Thanks! You are right, it’s a natural “loading their legs” motion they make as they hear the shot, however it happens so fast many people don’t realize that it happens before the arrow gets there and they think it happens mostly after the arrow has struck.

I shoot a crazy slow recurve at 150fps. I shoot instinctive and I 100% always aim center mass with zero issues of shooting " over" deer. Actually in all my years hunting most missed practice shots are usually low due to the shooter dropping his/her arm to watch the arrow fly to the target. So your taking a bigger chance of hitting low while hunting because everyone wants to see the fletching hit the deer which naturally causes them to hit low in the first place.

I think it was just a freak occurrence the tension on the fall away had reduced over time and this was the first time it failed, despite shooting consistently over the summer. Wasn’t until I took it in to the bow shop that he discovered the tension had reduced slightly.

I'm in a new location for my archery hunting this season. Crossbow- Barnett XP350. I'm in a 15' ladder stand with a very good rest. Shooting fixed 3 blade broadheads. Typically my deer will be WITHIN 15 FEET to 50 FEET. Same aiming lower 1/3 for shot placement? Is anyone successful at head shots?
@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 24 күн бұрын
well I would say don't do head shots, especially with a bow...and yes regarding the lower 1/3 but as you are closer, there is the possibility of less drop

@@WeekendWoodsmen what if hunting on the ground?
@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 24 күн бұрын
@@Artisanwoodworks73 depends on your distance. and with a cross bow it is a little different IMO. it applies a little less as they typically fly faster. on the ground at a much closer distance, you may not add the same level "lower" but at a longer distance the arrow spends more flight time "fighting gravity" as it's launch point is lower - so I feel like it's even more important at a longer distance from the ground

What separates prey from predator? The eyes of predators are in the front of the head to judge the distance for the attack, the prey are on the side to keep an eye on the surroundings.

I'm gonna be honest to the guys that keeps saying deer will duck. FACT.. By the time the tip of the broadhead pokes em. Theyll start ducking. The issue is how ur bows set up and tuned along with how calm or how strong the wind blows.. majority guys out there set their bows to shoot 40-70yds. I only set mine to shoot 20yds on the dot no further... I'll shoot 25-28yds anchoring my 20yd pin behind the deers shoulder broadside if the wind is 12mph and under. I was shooting one spring grouping at 20yds at 18mph. The group was 2 or 3 inches out from the target, the week later it was 15mph. The group was 1 or 2 out from the target. I really noticed a big difference how winds can affect how ur arrow flies. I've killed deer where the arrow hit a little high double lung. Was successful. That deer in my view is slightly quartering away. You probably hit maybe the liver. I had that situation last fall too. Deer were walking by to where they turn from broadside to slightly quartering away. I had the worst luck last fall 3 were like that, aim behind the shoulder. Majority was 1 lung or liver. I'm initiating to do heartshots more now and stopping them to stay still to improve the shot... the downside is that I shot a doe in the heart with a rage 2 blade chisel years ago. Barely any blood. Next morning she only ran 40yds, but coyotes found her after I killed it... but I suppose it happens from time to time.. rather make sure it's a dead deer down over not finding a dead deer...

I know there's a lot of times the deer will get more spooked if you are quiet and try to hold still. Oftentimes you can talk to them gently and even wave a little bit. And it relaxes them. The more stalkey you are,,, the more paranoid they become. 🌾😆🌾

I usually go easy on people when i see they are inexperienced hunters. In your case, people like you get on the internet and give real hunters a bad name. The fact you made a bad shot because you felt moving your camera was more important, that shows us all you need to pick either hunting or making youtube videos. Not both. The common knowledge that deer drop at the shot is one of the fundamentals at hunting. This is part of basic hunters safety course curriculum. It is right between the part about putting meat on ice so it does not spoil, and unloading your shotgun before hopping a fence. You honestly need to reevaluate why you are bow hunting and make better choices. I do not make internet content about hunting. In 2 decades of hunting, I have had 2 deer make it past 40 yards. Both were dead by 100 yards. Never had a deer i did not find after shooting. Its a shame you are not serious about being an ethical hunter. As to the content of this video, deer drop at the shot. Everyone knows this. Even shooting something slow like a shotgun or muzzle loader at 100 yards they have time to drop. Aim just behind that spot where the shoulder first starts to bump out as the leg comes up. Try and do it in an angle to not ruin the quarter behind it. Youll either shoot the heart, miss cleanly low, or double lung a high shot or a shot that a deer drops hard. Your center mass idea is profanely rediculous. No 3d target depicts this. No one EVER says that in a hunting magazine or show. Center mass is something you hear listening to james yeager swear about guns. You truly are an example of the fact equipment does not replace skill.

I knew better and I made a mental mistake, which is why I was too high on my hold. The camera played no role in me not taking a shot. I had 2 lanes. The one I was set to shoot in and the one I shot in. I knew this because you have to mentally prepare for everything and know exactly where your shots are so you are ready. There was no shot prior to that and I didn’t want to stop the deer with a noise when he had literally just spend the last 20 minutes slowly eating acorns, thought for sure he would stop in that lane, but he didn’t, that’s hunting. I moved the camera, stopped him in my last lane and made a shot that was poorly placed. Read through the comments and tell me more good didn’t come of helping people understand how easy it is to make a mistake and how to learn from it. I also have hunted long enough to know that your statement of only having two deer go beyond 40 yards is an exaggeration. A heart shot deer will commonly run 100 yards on a dead sprint before dropping. Double lung can easily run 100-150, the distance a deer runs even on perfect shots is highly variable. I also highly doubt that you have never missed a deer.

@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen Ай бұрын
Hear that a lot but I really don’t see the point in using the smaller muscles in your shoulders when you can use the big muscles in your back and I also like to come into anchor from below rather than straight back. I have tried it, but never felt comfortable getting into anchor that way. And if a deer catches me mid draw it’s a heck of a lot easier to hold it when you are drawing lower.
