A self-filmed early season bow hunt on a sow bean field edge went from bad to good after getting busted by a doe. Always pay attention to your thermals in the early season! It ended up being a perfect heart shot with my Mathews Traverse and VAP Elite Arrows.
Video Equipment:
Camera Arm: Fourth Arrow Talon Stiff Arm
Cameras: GoPro Hero 10 Black, Sony AX 100 4K

Thermals are tough and I even don’t fully understand them. However, when the wind isn’t blowing, you are still producing scent, but it’s not getting blown away so it will just stay around you. Thermals have to do with the air warming or cooling around you. Generally in the mornings the sun rising heats the ground and air will rise from the ground creating “rising” thermals. At night the opposite is true, the ground and air is cooling so the thermals are “dropping”. Simply put warm air rises and cool air falls. So in this case there was little wind and the air was cooling so my scent was dropping straight to the ground from there it is like a pool slowly filling, it will just spread out along the ground in all directions. So if the wind doesn’t blow then you are just creating a pool of scent around you. So they will say “hunt high” in the morning (on top of ridges) and hunt low at night, think valleys, ideally near running water to sweep away your scent. Hope that helps!

Take some milk weed with you! I started doing that I have a whole bag of it and it will just pluck a bit out and let it go and watch where it drifts. To me it’s fascinating! I am a bit of a nerd though 🤣
