This happened to me this morning. Quartered away from and I regret taking the shot. We got a tracking dog for tomorrow morning. Gonna go out tomorrow first light. We are letting it sit for almost 20 hours. This would be my first archery buck if we retrieve it, gonna get some more practice in so I don’t make hopefully anymore bad shots. Thanks for the video!

Hang in there and hope you find it! Unfortunately bad shots happen. Love that you are trying to learn from it. Did you get good penetration on the shot? If you have time you don’t need to rush it tomorrow morning. What I always say is “if he’s dead, he’s dead” which means he’s not going anywhere, but if he’s not, then it becomes tough when you bump them!

Currently going through this on my first archery buck/ archery deer in general.shot a little far back on a quartering away and knew I messed it up. Found his blood marked it and backed out. Gonna look in the AM with some buddies.

Did the arrow pass through? What was on the arrow? Blood or guts? Also sorry to hear it. If you share some details I may be able to give you an idea of what to expect.

This is what I’m going through now had a drawl back on one last night and just as I was just letting it fly turned towards me alittle which made into a gut shot…..arrow went clean through and stuck into the ground so now trying to learn what to do it’s my first deer with a bow hopefully I find her!

Take your time for sure. If it isn’t raining, give her as much time as you can even into this afternoon. You can also see if there are any tracking dogs in the area. Do you have a good feel for the deer travel paths, bedding areas and water sources?
