Air horn seems to be much better than bangers, since you can hold it in your hand and be ready at all times. Similar to bear spray vs gun, you can easily walk around with the bear spray in your hand ready to go at all times, while gun safety dictates that you shouldn't walk around with a loaded gun in your hand all the time.

If you google a "Mucket" it is pretty much the same as the Mors Pot that he is talking about. It was used in the civil war and there are numerous replicas.

Just a friendly warning, the temperature of the camp stove flames are way beyond the measurement range and prolonged exposure could cause permanent damage like spotting. Also pointing it at the sun and other extremely bright lights Recently got a inafray p2pro. im quite satisfied with it but wish it had the added features this has like image scheduling.

I have recently added canned salmon to my diet regularly but have considered the smell factor for camping in bear country. I think I'll switch to a less smelly Omega 3 option for my camping menus, lol

Bear defense is why I now own a 10mm. Solo-Moto-Camping can get a little nerve racking sometimes. Especially in some of the places I go. It's a nice comfort to have a hand cannon as back-up. I have also purchased some "Ramset Trip Alarms" to place around camp. If the Bear comes into the perimeter it will trip a little device that holds a Ramset nail gun charge. Which is basically a .22 caliber blank. It sounds like a 22 pistol going off. It will alarm you something has just entered the perimeter and hopefully gives the critter/intruder enough of a surprise to scare it out of there or enough of a pause to get my 💩 ready.

Great video I’m so glad I stumbled upon it. I know it’s an old one so may not get this comment but I’m very curious how the curry goes with dehydrating coconut milk? Does the fat in it not go rancid? I’m dairy free so would love to know if dehydrating coconut milk works cheers
@KevinOutdoors16 күн бұрын
Great questions and yes this is an older video. I have since substituted coconut milk powder. Coconut milk doesn't fully dehydrate and fats can go rancid. It however usually lasts a week or more and on a trip I consume it early. But like I said I changed my practice since making this video.

@ awesome thanks for such a speedy response Kevin. I’ll give it a go with the powder instead

Correction… A well placed bullet is most effective against bear attacks,not bear spray. Bear spray will make the bear angry!

I come from Slovakia. I use compass every time I am in the forest. I know everything about magnetic declination from all the videos in KZbin an I use it. I knew from some of the videos something about the grid north but I never understood this completely. But now I am happy and thank you 🙏 so much for the best explanation of the geometrical principle and how it changing with distance from central meridian. In my country is the grid angle 57 minutes west and this has sense to take in account in my compass orientation.

Just go into the local chain saw dealer and get a proper arborists throwing ball and rope and use it or a 3/16" yellow poly rope and drill a hole through a sponge ball and a fender washer and a figure 8 knot and use that as a throwing ball with 120,feet of rope on it. It works very well, lm a utility arborist by trade and we rope alot of trees on the average day

Actually Kevin, a friend of mine has done a couple of similar surveys in Algonquin park, for the MNR. Its actually a TV program that was shown on TV Ontario, l remember Jeremy working on it several years ago, as well as one on the timber wolves in Algonquin.

If you are freezing the beef, you do not rince the fat. Keep it. It is taster and healthier when you are campin/hiking. I do not believe that the Indians took the fat out and they didn't have a freezer.
@KevinOutdoors22 күн бұрын
That's true but they rendered the fat so there was no water in it. That is the same process as tallow, lard or clarified butter.
@LindaKreutzer-v2d21 күн бұрын

Thanks for this video. Question. My buddy and I went out on a wildlife photo trip. He screwed his bear banger into the firing mechanism with the safety position on and popped it into his pocket. This seemed a bit dodgy to me. He is very experienced (has worked in the Yukon wilderness a lot). I think he based this on having bear experiences with no time to fumble around with screwing bear bangers into the holder etc. Is this recommended? If so, would partially screwing it in be better (to ensure it would not fire accidentally unless fully screwed in, which should only take a few seconds).

Aww the little black cub climbing up the tree to escape danger and poor mama bear ain't stupid...she KNOWS what hunters can do ☹☹ we have no right to take the life of these amazing animals ...we far outnumber them and other wildlife so keep your distance , respect them and remember, humans are the intruders!

Can you cold soak this recipe?
@KevinOutdoorsАй бұрын
It should, I haven't tried it with this specific recipe but all the ingredients are those that can cold soak. The chick peas are the thing that would likely take the longest. If my plan was to cold soak this I might cut them in half or give them a quick pulse in a food processor (or just skip them).
@yoseflaurent3376Ай бұрын
Exactly, some black bears are brown, why we should possibly deem grizzlies as grey bears instead of brown bears, although they are not exactly overall grey nor silvery either. One sure thing you said is ''they are individuals and there are exceptions''.
@KevinOutdoorsАй бұрын
Grizzlies are a sub-species of the Brown Bear.
@hopepowers3862Ай бұрын
I know from experience that air horns don't work and bear spray does.
@KevinOutdoorsАй бұрын
I think in the video I make a point of paraphrasing "air horns work until they don't work". They can work on a bear new to noisemakers but they can quickly get used to it.
