Casbah brand dehydrated hummus is excellent tasting and no more expensive than regular hummus. We bring it on all our trips

Dehydrated some last year for my summer trips. I scored mine with a fork to make the crumble have a more regular shape. Was great in the back country and the extra crumble made the tastiest salad topper. Way better than croutons!

Salad topper?! great idea!

Another great video, and you make it look so easy (but the experts always do). Do you have any issues with tastes/smells lingering on the dehydrator disks between batches, e.g., doing something garlic-forward like hummus and then something more delicate like fruit?
@KevinOutdoors11 ай бұрын
I don't get lingering flavours from batch to batch. Tomato sauce does stain the trays but I don't find any flavour transfer. I do get flavour transfer when I mix trays in the same batch. Don't do kiwi or banana at the same time as garlic and raw onions :)
@KevinOutdoors11 ай бұрын
And, I am way more garlic forward in real life than in my book or my videos :)

4:11 Hummus cookies. : ) This will have to be implemented by me. Thank you Kevin. I'll have to try it with red pepper.

Cookies? Interesting. I happen to have a red pepper bean spread video in the making.

I'll have to try this! I make humus now and then, but never dehydrated it. I'm glad you used real lemon, I've used lemon from a bottle (once) and it makes the whole thing sour. Naturally with recipes mine is a bit different, I need some salt in there and I won't be eating uncooked garlic lol, but it should dehydrate the same.
@KevinOutdoors11 ай бұрын
Thanks, I certainly make this a little different each time. The hardest thing for me is writing out the recipe.

Thanks for a great video. I'm new to your channel. Wow, I had no idea almost EVERYTHING can be dehydrated!! lol Quesstion - can the food be dehydrated in the oven to shave off some of the cooking time? And if so, what would the temp/process be for that? Thanks!
@KevinOutdoors11 ай бұрын
You can use an oven to dehydrate, it will work better with a convection oven and the door propped open a few inches. Set the oven as low as it will go. You won't really save any time in an oven.

What the electric bill on doing this ?
@KevinOutdoors11 ай бұрын
I am not sure, I don't notice a higher bill when I do a lot of dehydrating. I will likely do a video on this as I have the equipment to measure the power usage.

Would using hot water help rehydrate faster? (If a fire outdoors is an option.)
@KevinOutdoors11 ай бұрын
It would but warm hummus just doesn't seem right. :) Normally if you have travelled for some time the chunks of dried hummus tend to become a finer power anyway. Another difference between being in the backcountry and making a video at home.

I find hummus disgusting. No taste. Too much phytic acid which blocks the absorption of key minerals. To each his own I guess. Blessings.

Not correct Soaking any type of beans for 24 hours before cooking removes the phythic acid Just change the rinse water
