Hi, Paul! Thank you for another great video! Here are my top take-aways: I am so grateful for your example of exploring a new painting style. You show us an optimistic and easy-going "let's explore and see what happens--- and not take ourselves too seriously" attitude, help us remember that joy (not perfectionism!) is why we wanted to paint in the first place--- and show us that it's perfectly okay to choose colors we like instead of feeling pressured to perfectly match the colors of the reference photo. (That last one is a HUGE help to me. I had just watched a video of an artist who was teaching how to exactly match colors from a photo reference to our painting. He was very good at it, and I know his system works well, but it just left me feeling overwhelmed. I would have to spend a year of practice just trying to learn the system. And then you painted this painting with the colors you liked, which didn't match the photo reference, and a light bulb went off in me: I can paint with whatever colors I like!!! And the pressure was gone! I was just feeling joy again!) You're a blessing, Paul! I'll be back to take notes of this video and your upcoming video in a couple of weeks. Our daughter is getting married next Saturday and things are busy around here! Have a great week! And keep up the loose painterly style videos! I'd like to see you paint all the paintings we just voted on!

Hi Erica - so pleased to read your great feedback on my tutorials. That pressure to get it perfect is instilled in us from an early age. Fine when it comes to the three 'R's but not so helpful with artistic persuits like painting. Over time you'll discover many more ways to get carefree and creative. Its a wonderful journey. Have a great wedding and see you when your ready for more painting fun - I think this weeks will be a bit of a hit! - Best wishes to you and the family - Paul 😃😃🥰🥰😎😎

Thank you so much 😀Hugh. It looks a bit rough and ready up close - I wanted that to feature in the video! But when you stand back ( no not comedically i.e. from the end of the garden ) it looks really quite good. My litmus test is Terri. If she like it then I'm on to something - Have a great week - Paul 😃😎

Ocean scenes aren"t exactly something I would want to paint. But the techniques used are inspiring ! Thank you again, Paul ! I like the grey gesso idea and have thought of coloring gesso, just not gotten around to that yet.

Hi David - I decided on a seascape because its the only thing about the painting thats remotely in my comfort zone! It was challenging but the less is more rule won through. maybe that should have been one of the key points. Yes the grey was an inspired choice .... no it wasn't. I usually use a light or neutral grey colour so this was pure luck. But it worked well and I'll use this trick again in future. - Happy painting and keep on experimenting - Paul 😃😃

Hello Paul! I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial! It’s so amazing that we get to try new things together, and how cool is it that with each step we learn from your years of experience how to move along step by step through this style; I am right there with you on the idea that leaving things be can be a challenge when we say.. I’ll just do this one little thing… it can bring anxiety for me. Going into a painting with this kind of free style is fun. I love the idea that you will include loose style paintings in the future. Thank you Paul!! Have a fantastic week! This as a very freeing lesson for me! ✨🖌️🎨🤗😃✨

Hi Stephanie - thak yo for voting in the recent #WOME quiz. The votes have been counted and the winner was your favourite - B. I'm delighted the painting loose video appealed so much. Its a little off the Bob Ross topic but I think its a nice way to go and try new styles. And yes, the 'I'll just' moments we all have. Terri first coined the phrase during a class many moons ago. It soon became a mantra for many and I'm pleased to have shared it. Because its the thing we (me!) have to resist when we're at that point - when we're actually finished but can't put down the darn brush. I have a few funny's about that - maybe for another time. So lets get painting - have a great week! Paul 😃😃🥰🥰😎😎

It is so wonderful you can 'rub things out' in oil. I know times vary, but about how long for one of your oil paintings to dry? Love ALL your tips and how you fix mis-steps 😍 Beautiful painting! Has a bit of a watercolor feel 👋
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 3 ай бұрын
Hi Annie 🥰 Mine tend to be touch dry after a week and I can safely stack them after 2-3 weeks. But thats largely due to the paper DIY canvases I make and use. They do dry quickly. Yes, a loose water colour feel to this scene. I'm going to varnish a couple of paintings soon just for a little 'how to video' I have a really nice big owl painting to do that will make a great centre piece for the video. Now, what to paint next? I think a more back to basics is in the mix - art hugs as always - Paul 🤗🥰😃

Yes, I've been using my DIY wallpaper canvases for years. Its actually heavy weigh decorators lining paper - I made a video all about this and heres the link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZPFaqNpnMl2frs I have a link on the video to my amazon account so you can se the sort of paper I use. Just look for something similar. Just make sure you give it a couple of coats of gesso or scrylic to seal the surface. I've saved a ton of $$ and they're a snip to save as well - Paul 😃😃😎😎
