We sang an English version of this at school in Glasgow in the sixties and it came into my head today and I came to look for it. Very pleased to find the original Gaelic!

I've been lucky enough to see Julie Fowlis live in concert three times. Like others who've commented , i dont know any Gaelic words, but it doesn't matter. I cant understand why, maybe it's because of my Scottish ancestry. They're all lovely tunes, sung by Julie, she is a modern wonder of music. Julie and her husband, Eamonn, are really nice people, very down to earth and very approachable and modest too.

These musicians are genius. It is their soul. How do I say it? It is as though they have known each other a lifetime. Makes my heart laugh. Love the joy in the feet. Unfathomable complex effortless beauty

@iantibbetts224 ай бұрын
It's called 'Robardig' - a song in the Gwerz style - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwerz . Sorry, I don't know Breton to know what it's about (other than the accompanying singer presenters join Annie Ebrel to sing the names of the months of winter). If you like it, you can hear more on the album "Dibenn" on which 'Robardig' is the first song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4erdoiQqsdke9k.

Grew-up there (Galicia), the first few minutes of bagpipes are fun...then after half an hour you want to slice your veins open, unbearably boring. By the way, Scottish sounds horrible, I guess to pair it well with the food...stay together with the English or is gonna be real pathetic.

Sounds just like Portuguese. My wife and I visited Portugal last year and it's home to a people I came to love. Does this music live in the sense that families or friends commonly make it when they get together or is it the province only of professional musician

An excellent version of the song but the information is wrong. It was not written by Murdo MacLeod but by Murdo Maclean who was my wife's grandfather. He did go to Montana but returned to Scotland to marry and settle in the Black Isle.

Fantastic reply - THANK YOU and my apologies, I see now from the score that it was my mistake in writing down the name. I'm glad to have corrected it in the description and to know that he returned to Scotland. Thanks again !
