Just found your channel. Checking out your videos now. Cool stuff man. I've day hiked little rock creek but I haven't been beyond it. Skimming through your videos looks like we may live close to each other. Wouldn't doubt it if we've passed each other on a trail before.

Check out Zetner geology video on this one. Mount Baker Terrane. Guy is great recon material, too. He has been everywhere. Literally.

Did you guys ever find any personal belongings laying around while out there? Clothes, bones, anything at all... Anything old? An old family member went missing there just before Thanksgiving in 2003.
@NorthwestWanderer6 күн бұрын
we did not. Other than the fire pit we didn't see any signs of human activity, not even foot prints.

Came to Idaho from Reno 33 years ago and always wanted to go to Hell’s Canyon. My 82-year-old legs won’t do it these days so thanks so much for your wonderful video. You now have a first time subscriber.💕

@ very true. including getting tossed out of the boat into a rapid. I didn’t put my foot in a “stirrup “as instructed to do so. My brother joined me and did put his foot in the stirrup and had issues with his ankle for years. As for me, I had a refreshing dip.🤣🤣.

Fantastic hike! My first backpacking trip was on part of this trail 52 years ago. Got me into backpacking. Life / career took priority so I didn't go back again until 2 years ago. I may go back again this summer - depends upon results of other permit lotteries. No matter, I will be back in the next few years.

You pin Poncho over Polypad front open 18 inches high. Stick. The other poncho you wrap over backpack. I used rubber rain suit Army. It doesn't breath. So you stay warm and after a day or so clothes dry on you. 28 day minimum training cycle. Did several 45 day ones. 210 days in field one year. 105 to 17 below. Air Assault! Polypad. 2 ponchos. Army classic rain suit. Baklava. Watch Cap. I ALWAYS TAKE Enough clothes to cover my entire body. Lightweight if summer. I stay above 8500 feet. July August. Preferably above 10,000. Why I like the winter but in Northwest you can die in the winter. Need 40 below bag. Full up mountaineering outfit. $3000 or more now. Car may freeze at TH. Hence, Moab. Sierra Nevada. Death Valley. Here. Ellensburg WA you can walk in off plowed roads. US97 US2 I90 US12

2023 in Sierra the snow brought out billions of mosquitoes. I watched people get out of cars gear up walk 250 feet turn around get back in car leave. I slept at Grant Lake. Little Peninsula on North Side. Wind ripped in early evening 😴 so no mosquitoes. I sleep with t-shirt around my head covered. Open air. Learned how in Army. No tent. 2 Army Nylon Ponchos. Polypad. Waterproof bag reversed. Nylon skin inside.

Teton is short range. So accessible. Off Valley. La Sals up at Gold Basin. Sierra Nevada in general are most friendly in winter compared to others.

Hardcore. TRUE to Northwest. You are the man. We never went to Glacier when working at Yellowstone because it is like an 8 hour drive, and we were in Yellowstone. Absoroka. Yep.
@sluggotinfantryman18 күн бұрын
That pano of river basin sums up Idaho. South Sierra Nevada is dry if you like dry go North from Walker Pass. Owen's Oeak. Kennedy Meadows. Olancha backwoods. Late August, you can get your dry on. Or Inyos. For sure. Bristlecone. DEATH VALLEY up a mountain out of Pantimont Valley. Idaho is crazy wild but most skip it. Not the Northwest Wander. He has to do it it is in his name. 😅

Great Videos. I got caught up in the day trip game forgot the real deal excursions. If you want my favorite peak. Barronette Peak in July. Out of hundreds. We started out of ice box right up ridge. Top three: Toroweap Shepherd Pass Yosemite-Clouds Rest/panoramic/Half Dome in snow ice. North Dome.......... RUSSELL. Dana in snow.

My favorite place. Period. I do the east side and bowl. The bowl is off Clay Butte. Google it biggest meadow. Bear maul woods. Muddy Creek. If going to Granite Lake you can drop off the ridge from Butte. Why the woods. That is the sherwood forest of the Tooth.
@sluggotinfantryman20 күн бұрын
I vote Wyoming video #1. Absoroka from east to west. Why? Animals. Duh. Yellowstone has stuff that can eat you. BIG DIFFERENCE when in wild.
@sluggotinfantryman20 күн бұрын
My best NPS pal did the mules their. I never go to Olympic basically because it is easier to drive to Yellowstone from Ellensburg WA than deal with the Peninsula. Its the real deal though. Cascades are muthas. I am a Glacier Peak Wilderness guy.
@sluggotinfantryman20 күн бұрын
I like Palisades better than Evolution Basin. And love Cottonwood too. Start at 10,000 feet. Way easier. Guy told me that first time I ever went to Sierra. Go North out of Clover Meadow. Sweet Lakes. Multiday Goddard area is overlooked. Clocer Meadow to Ritter too.
@sluggotinfantryman20 күн бұрын
Goddard from Courtright Lake is my Muir Pass. People hit the east side but you can go in from Clover Meadow or Courtright Lake. Obviously Roads End Kings to Kearsarge. Olancha North would be my multiday choice but I have been everywhere else (high country) I like bouncing from Lone Pine to Big Pine. I generally sleep behin d Independence. Or Grant Lake (desolate) but wind keeps mosquitoes away. Good Mexican Restaurant in town June Lake. The south entrance to loop is closer to town. Grant is a haul in/around. Why Grant? Get up drive right into Yosemite. T Meadows AO. Porcupine Creek is my preferred campground in Yosemite park. I like North Dome. Tenaya Canyon rim. North side.

Sunrise. Go from River Campground trail to Glacier then up to last Burrough. Jump on Glacier if you feel it. It's busy. I like the Sourdough Pass deal and loop around Naches Peak. Sunrise is killer. Epic views. Area.

Picked the right area. Park above 10000. 1000 foot elevation gain out to Cottonwood Lakes then go forest put over old Army pass. Dumps into middle aka Kern River Valley. South is Olancha. Big forests hot real dry in summer. Very.
@sluggotinfantryman22 күн бұрын
Murdered this one and demonstrated why west approach is better for multiday. East is up canyon down canyon. Sheep mountain on other side of Elk Refuge is GREAT view of Tetons. So are the pull offs along the road 😅
