I love all you do, to feed your family well! It does make me think though, I am glad I had a small family. I had 2 daughters, with 20 years between them. In one way it was silly of me, to have another and Start the Mother Mode, all over again! But in the consideration of the amount of food and work required, for a larger one? It is a blessing. Right after my youngest was born, about 3 years? My daughter had her first son. She lived with us, still, so Baby Mode and bedroom shifting occurred also. My room became hers and I went into basement. They moved out when he was 8 months, to a city about 45 minutes drive from us. BUT Doctoring and Banking was still in our little town. I AM the Driver. So I spent hours per week, shuttling them and having them stay over for at least one night. So cooking etc became my job, often. Now? I cook for ME. Only me. So it happens about once a week. I have a crippled leg and I can't DO large days of anything! 2hr spans, like in Canning, pushes my leg and body too hard. Then I can cook. Lol Considering it is my resposibility TO Do all yard work, etc? I cannot cause my leg excess injury. Life Changes SO many things, doesn't it?!? ❤

Sounds like you’re super involved with your family still, which is such a blessing. Both my mom, and mother-in-law are exceptionally generous with us and help when we need them too. The kids LOVE spending time with them both. Thanks for watching, and make sure to listen to your body, because you’re correct about overworking! It’s definitely not worth it. 🙌🏻

Great ideas. We always make a hot breakfast every morning. I’m always looking for new ideas! I’ve not tried bagels yet… going to soon. My kitchenaide just died on me… so I am going to save up and get the mixer of my dreams… had one years ago and drove it into the grave…. You are the only other person I’ve seen use that kind of mixer. They are amazing! As a side note I will make bread and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on it like cinnamon rolls. Add cinnamon chips then roll it up into a loaf. Cinnamon chip bread… my kids love it.

Sometimes people sell “gently” used Anks on the community group in FB. Also they sell them open box sometimes. It’s a beast, but the time saved by being able to do multiple batches at once is worth it to me. I’ve had it for about 18 months, and I can’t do back. Bagels, just like everything else, are easier than I made them out to be in my head. Once you try them, you’ll have to share your thoughts! Thanks for watching!

Just a tip for the tortillas. If those are flour which I’m pretty sure they were. You do not use a tortilla press for flour tortillas. I see it being used incorrectly quite often. It’s only for corn tortillas. ❤️

@thehometownhomestead

I used hard. I tried not to get too in the weeds with the flour conversation, as most will buy AP. Definitely could have used soft for the cake, but I ground a bunch at once and let it be. Normally I used 1/2 bread and 1/2 hard white for my pizza crust, but I’ve used a bunch of variations.

Same here. My husband wasn’t happy with the outside vent being back in the game, or the 2nd machine. That said, it’s WAY faster, and we haven’t had one thing stuck in the door gasket completely soaked. I really hope they nail it down, but it just wasn’t here yet, no matter how much I cleaned it. Best of luck!

When you use powdered buttermilk in the waffle mix, it’s 1 cup per recipe? Did I see that correctly? I want to make some of this. 😊
@thehometownhomestead
@thehometownhomestead 6 күн бұрын
I did. The recipe calls for regular milk, but I use powdered buttermilk instead. It calls for 3 cups of milk, so I just used the cup to replace based on the directions on my powdered buttermilk package. I was initially mixing it up on the side instead of incorporating with the dry ingredients. This is also doable in any other recipe calling for milk. I LOVE powdered buttermilk because of its shelf life, since we don’t drink much regular milk at all.

Is it ok to premill your flour and not use it right away? I heard you have to use it right away to have all the health benefits.
@thehometownhomestead
@thehometownhomestead 7 күн бұрын
You do lose some of the benefits of freshly milled. That said, if I had used AP, none of those benefits would have been there anyway. For the sake of comparing to what’s on the store shelf, you’re still way ahead to mill it in advance. One alternative would be to jar up the other ingredients, put them in a very small jar and write the amount of flour to add as one of the missing ingredients.

Hey, new subscriber from Australia ☺️ i just wanted to say thank you for the video. I haven't compared homemade mixes to store brought pre mixes. Food here has sky-rocketed, so i have a feeling our savings would be higher again. On average, it costs $350+ per week to feed our family of 5. It's time for me to get back into food preservation & bulk buying and just make the time. I have had enough of the costs & disgusting ingredients. If you can even call them that. 😂 Thank you for the reminder. 🥰

The savings are MUCH larger if you compare homemade mixes using organic ingredients vs. pre-made organic mixes. ASTRONOMICAL difference! That's considering if you can even find a certain organic mix! Here in Nebraska, that can be tough to do.
@thehometownhomestead
@thehometownhomestead 7 күн бұрын
Agree! My personal ingredients are organic, but for the purposes of showing just how cheaply we can do this, I compared conventional ingredients. It really doesn’t take any time to do it. Even when I was filming, I couldn’t believe I completed 3 in approximately 5 min.

I have this unit, took me week to figure out there was an issue. The filter allows lint to plow by and blog the heat pump coils, cuaseing it to increase dry times and over heating. However, there is fix, a couple videos on KZbin show the fix, add weather stripping to back, and bottom and top. I did this and now have never had any lint in the lower drain plug filter. Works great now, no issues. I was super frustrated until I figured this out.

I know exactly the post you are referring to. I am using the silicone sealant around the filter. I also clean out the filter and area after EVERY use (and when using the new Pet hair feature, I clean the filter before the wash starts, to remove hair and dander from the filter). I've never had clumps of lint inside the filter chamber. My machine is 7 months old and I really love it. Fingers crossed that the machine will last - for both of us. Good luck!

I have this combo, and love it but you have to take care of it (which you do a good job showing all of the things you need to do). You can't slack on it either. Did the electrical tape trick as well, which is definitely a fault on GE's part and they should definitely release a new revision of the filter tray. But if you do keep up on it, the machine is fantastic. It has saved plenty on my energy bill. I only wash a load once, it gets them clean and the drying process is much more gentile on my clothes.
