Fern, you should totally do the matchy symmetrical lights hanging from your wall. It will looks amazing and don't worry about it being to matchy matchy because your plant collection and pots are so diverse and interesting. Matching with the lights will make the room feel more cohesive, symmetrical and connected. But at the end of the day its your design so do what will bring you the most joy!

Hi Fern!! You can hang that paper up on the back of your cabinet with magnets. I hung a tapestry on the outside back of mine. Magnets makes it easy to swap it out. Imagine all the cool wrapping paper you could hang on the outside of the cabinet to cover the glass, especially during the holidays!

I love painting! Definitely invest a few dollars on the little paint samples. Swatch a good foot by foot square in the brightest spot and the darkest spot of each color. It will save you money. I’ve repainted and spent more on new paint because the color didn’t look good in the room or ended up too dark in the darker areas. It save as to do swatches. And live with the swatches for a week or so.

For the Thai Con, what about a floor lamp reading lamp thing? Where it faces down. You could put it beside the plant and use a good strong grow bulb. And I would do a matching pendant light over the moss poles.

It seems like that bracket you currently have for your Rousseau pendant light would be perfect above your monstera Thai Con. You could move it and then get a different shorter bracket for the place where it is now since you have the light angled in anyway there.

ooh! i have a great idea for the area where the cabinet used to be! you can add a single wall shelf (or maybe a Wally Grow planter) and put the A. Pallidiflorum (or one of the long hanging plants in the bedroom) in it so the long leaves or vines can take up some space on the empty wall and cover up the damage on it. Thanks for the amazing video, Fern! Can't wait till the next one! ❤❤❤

I dove into plantube during lockdown and actually started keeping plants alive 🤪 I'm pretty consistently trying to make room for plants that have outgrown their spaces over the years 🙈 it's definitely not a problem I imagined having at the start of this hobby! For the Thai, what if you did a wall mounted pendent from the cabinet over the fridge instead of the wall?? It might look a bit odd lol but it would be far enough away from the wall to actually be over the plant without getting in the way of the ghosty. Much love 🫶🏽

I think the glow would be so cozy I might even try hanging it on a bracket on the side of the cabinet so it can be placed right. Regarding setup, growlights etc., I have one single piece of advice. I constantly find myself paralyzed when it comes to these kinds of decisions, because I think “but what if I wanna do this and this and that at some point?!”. I want to make the best overall decision in every aspect the first time, and ultimately nothing gets done. So my advice is, just do whatever fits your current needs, and get it done sooner rather than later. You can always change it again🤷🏽‍♀️ It took my brain some time to realize that even when renting a space, you dont have to keep a lamp in the same spot, if you want it somewhere else later on, just because you mounted it to the ceiling. Hope it makes sense😅 anyways, always love your planty chill videos🫶🏼

I have been using a similar treatment for years and haven't had any pests. I do recommend using it twice in one week for the first two weeks and then eventually going to once a month. To kick what you have. It's a pain in the butt, but if you can't wipe down your floors, you can put them on towels. My recipe also has alcohol in it.I highly recommend that because the alcohol kills so much stuff.. Plus ten drops of essential oils, I've never had problems with anything dying, Or it being too strong for anything. Eventually you may find yourself trying alternate ways

Hello, I have been using the 20 20 20 for about 8 months, however I only use it every two weeks to my plants. As most of my plants are from Canadian Tire the ones that I feel sorry for come home with me and the 20 20 20 has brought them back to life. I use my grow lights all year round, that way they don' t get confused😀

Hi Fern! I have so much to talk about in this video 😂 Hear me out.. What if you did a Soltech Highland track light above the frame of your balcony door? And you could point one to the left and one to the right? Or two to the wall where your cabinet was. The pole plants would keep their forward facing display and not have leaves trying to turn upwards and backwards on you. I know it would be an investment.. but I think it would keep the best display. You could hang shelves, wally planters, or other décor items on that wall above your moss poles. Or be an option to stay open for when those pole plants get big? A track light could potentially replace your tree light depending on the angle and how those plants turn towards the light. Also, tips for painting. Firstly, you can totally do it. Looking at your walls and trim that will be a pretty easy project for you. Spend a lot of time on your tape and making sure you are covering the floor. Invest in the Green Frog Tape - its so much better than the blue scotch painting tape. The tape is literally your BEST friend and if you take your time making sure their are no air bubbles, and you are covering all the areas you don't want paint to touch, it will go so much faster when you actually start to paint. Unscrew all the light switches from the walls you can so you don't have to tape around them. When the paint is dry, use the utility knife to separate the tape from wall before you pull it off and that will help make a nice clean line without paint being removed with the tape. Also, when you are painting around the trim go with "less paint is best" in those areas. The dripping or standing of paint on the tape is what makes the mess. Wipe your walls down to get rid of dust and cobwebs before painting. Focus around trim and corners because that's where most of the dust and cobwebs will be. Wiping down all your trim helps the tape seal well and paint can't get behind the tape. Invest in a good paint possibly a paint/primer combo. I have used Behr paint and that worked really well. But I am sure there are others that are just as nice or better. If you have a primer in with your paint, you will probably only need to do two coats. Check with the store on what rollers to get. They will help you pick one that works but make sure you pick one that doesn't "shed" or you will have lumps that come off in the paint. If you put the roller in a plastic bag you can use one for the whole project as long as it does not dry out. Keep your hand paint brush in a Ziplock bag and you'll only need one also. If you get a hand paint brush with an angle to the bristles that will help. And smaller hand brush is better than a bigger one because you'll be more accurate with where you paint. Also don't waste your money on those hand paint cups, just use a plastic cup you plan to throw out. It works the same and is even lighter and less cumbersome to hold than the ones you buy. Pro tip, if that cup has a lid you can use it so the paint doesn’t dry out. Basically, invest in the paint, roller, and painting tape. Spend the biggest part of your time prepping to paint and the actual painting will go SO much faster. I cannot emphasize that enough. Everyone wants to jump into the painting but the prep is so important to make the whole project go smoother and look professionally done. It’s not your skill, it’s 100% the prep!

I would love to hear an update on the at home spray remedy in the future. I have tried this method and find that it does burn some leaves and if it gets into my moss poles, the moss gets a white residue that I don’t know how to get rid off. It’s possible that the grow lights burn the leaves if I don’t spray at night and the leaves are still wet by the time the lights go on so I would love to hear what others do to prevent damage from this alcohol and soap mixture. Thank everyone ❤

Painting is easy. Cut in around the edges, borders, etc then fill in. And I hear that you don’t paint in a “w” like they use to see done on tv decorating shows. But I’m not sure exactly why. Use drop cloths, and if you’re not painting the trim tape them off against drips. If your paint the trim then pain the walls first and then use a special tape that made for fresh paint. It’s gentler on the new paint. Comes off without peeling the paint back off after you just painted.

Painting walls can seem intimidating at first, but I’ve found it to be quite straightforward! I helped my parents paint walls from childhood, we did wallpapers ourself too and dad did tiles etc. Only one time we had problems - when the wall was super bad quality (sand was pouring down from some places) anyway you got normal walls so don't worry! I’ve noticed that here, in Poland, we usually do it ourselves, and I was curious if it’s common in Canada to hire someone. I love learning about how things differ around the world! if you didn't try to paint walls before, don't be intimidated! it is simlpe and straight foward activity with annoying waiting times and with backpain afterwards ;p You want to clean walls - normally with sponge and soap, if you want to fix holes then after putting putty probably you will need primer, consider getting nice roller, and you can do it! construction store workers will help you choose right roller and accesories and give you all the useful tips :) It’s late here, but I had to comment because I loved the video! :)I love to see how you style your space with plants and decor. Also I loved to music choices! :)

People use them to hang bird feeders and such. I have a couple with the hanging part that comes out over 10” from the wall (does that make sense lol - I wish we could provide pics on KZbin lol). I’ve gotten them from Amazon, Lowe’s, Walmart, etc. They’re pretty cheap, too, and quite sturdy. They’ll stick on command strips, too. I have to def use them for my Fiddle, Bird of Paradise, both Monsteras (OG and Albo)

What if you got the soltech Highland lights (the track light system) partially for your monstera? The nice thing about them as opposed to the traditional pendant light is that instead of shining straight down, you can set it up so that it points more towards the front of the plant. I find that my monstera really loves light that comes from the front, so having the beam above the plant and out of the way BUT still angled so that it points toward the front would likely be best for the plant and best for your space! Plus you can angle the other lights to any other plants in the room that could use a little something extra. A win win win sitch!

I love painting. Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy yourself the large 18” roller, matching tray, and the telescoping pole. If you can purchase Purdy brand rollers and paint brushes get those. They are one of my favorite brands. They also wash up really well.

I use castile soap + rubbing alcohol and I really like it! I sometimes mix in some safers end all as well. The individual sprays can get expensive so I try to dilute them always to make them last longer lol.

I vote for leaving the Monstera there with no grow light. It's growing super well with the amount of light it's receiving! I was thinking about putting a pendant light over my Monstera, but the ceiling is slanted and I don't know how nice it would look. It stops growing in the winter, and I'm okay with that because the leaves it puts out during the spring/summer are huge!

I’d go with matching lights where the milsbo tall used to be. Or if you do a shelf there it should be level with the top of the door frame. Or it will look choppy.

Fern I love that funky piece of art closest to your florida ghost! I've recently been watching as many of your videos as I can get my hands on and you inspired me to try out an anthurium pallidiflorum 😍 I've watched all of your vids where you talk about yours but I'd love an update and any tips!! Like how you've cut/propagated when it crawls out of the pot lol

also, you should totally get a white soltech aspect grow light for your thai and run the cord up the white cabinet/onto the wall and ceiling and then hang it down. The cords are sooo long and you could even get cord covers for the part of the cord that is on the wall/paint it the color of your wall. I think something simple and white would be the least distracting. I hang all of my aspect lights from the ceiling and they look super cool! A big one should work really well for your monstera

I would move the Monstera Thai to the right of the TV, and put in its place the philodendron (is it a philodendron?) that currently stands on the wooden cabinet near the window. That way your monstera will have more light, and you can put a less invasive grow light for the philodendron (like Sansi pot clip).

I definitely use that recipe as a regular mister, just the peppermint Castile though not the tea tree, but I add geranium essential oil as well, it works as an antifungal and antibacterial for me too. The GT Foliage Focus works like that for my plants, but it is expensive, maybe I’ll try the miracle grow again I like the idea of the wall mount pendant for your monstera, but even a pendant from the ceiling may cover your artwork there to get it close enough , tough call, but I’m thinking wall mount I also like the matching light above where your domesticum is, the wood wall mount, but floating shelves with grow lights below them sounds fun! I lived in an older home in the basement suite years ago, must’ve had a black widow egg sac hatch, I found 12 females and who knows how many of the smaller males in my house, within 3 months, I’ve been bitten by a widow before, thankfully I don’t have a scary reaction to their venom This was a very chatty vid, I think I prefer watching action, “the doing” if you will lol

Maybe you can put a desklamp with a growlight bulb in it on your milsbo wide cabinet pointing towards your monstera thai constellation? I loved the video!!

I’m way behind on plant videos but I’m getting caught up!! On that wall where you asked for suggestions at around the 27 min mark, I’d do floating shelves that you might could put some smaller plants and/or books on or more of those shelves you have that hold plants or a beautiful piece of art and a wall hanging plant of some sort maybe the Wally grow? And for the Thai lights have you thought about a tall ring light that sticks in the dirt? They’re fairly cheap. Or do the pendant but on the wall where the fridge is? Is that wall thick enough? Love watching these videos 🥰

I’m curious about your fertilizer plan. If you’ve been using Miracle Gro most of the time, how are you using Superthrive and BIOS? It would be interesting to have a video about all of your fertilizer-type things and how you use them together. Thanks!

I love these planning videos! My fav! I think the Florida Ghost looks great there. Oh, maybe you should do a shelf in that spot , room for more plants right?

When I had a grow light above my monstera the leaves started facing upwards. I prefer them to face forward so I switched it to a tower light which is not aesthetic. I share your dilemma!

You can get some of those lights that stick in the soil? Maybe even two lol for the monstera, if they’re too small… idk

I think first and foremost before adding growlights, I would paint the walls a lighter color, something that brightens up your space and then if it's still dark add a growlight. I think you should add a mirror on the wall where your cabinet used to be so when the sun shines in, it will reflect off of it. These are all things that I've had to do within my space to accommodate my plants because I don't want it overrun with lights. Hope these suggestions help.

I've used the soap treatment for 3 months and plan to continue. I also ALTERNATE dusting with sulphur, then diatomaceous earth and a systemic. I still found a damn spider mite on my new alocasia leaf! I won't use the systemic again unless i have a biblical plague. The good news....no fungus gnats 😂😂.

About Thai con- could you possibly install the light on the cabinet? Like "on" the fridge? It should reach to the front of the monstera?

I recently got the Barina 4 foot standing light which I love. It comes with clips to attach it horizontally to the wall or under a shelf. That might work for the area where you moved the cabinet
