Not really, octopi are actually some of the most common villagers. There’s an equal 1/35 chance of finding each villager species on any hunt. Then, the specific villager in the species is randomized. There are only 4 octopi villagers in the game, and since they’re the smallest species, it’s the easiest to hunt to a specific octopus villager. As an example, imagine you’re villager hunting for Zucker. When you go on an island, you roll a 1/35 chance for any species, say an octopus. You have the same amount of chance of getting say a gator, or a cat, but luckily you got an octopus. Then, since there are only 4 octopi, you have a 1/4 of getting Zucker. As an example of another species, cat villagers are the hardest to hunt for specifically, since there are 26 of them. If you were hunting for Tangy and you roll the 1/35 chance to get a cat, you’d still have to roll a 1/26 to get Tangy specifically.
