It's a lesser known device and brand, but from what I can tell, the Tuxedo Infinitybook 14 shines in places where the Z13 doesn't... Build Quality is amazing, Its design is different from the Z13 but sophisticated, The display looks great at 1800p with a variety of refresh rates and excellent contrast, a strong 8845HS, and an 80 Wh battery... It does last my whole day out, but of course YMMV here... In addition to that, its interior is highly accessible, it's port selection is excellent featuring USC-C 4, HDMI out, USB A 3.2, Ethernet, Dual Audio and SD reader... and it's specially designed for Linux. (It can run Windows too, no problem)

I switched from Windows to Linux Zorin OS 17 Core without a hitch on my desktop and am glad I did. I got really tired of Microsoft controlling my computer. The last update was the last straw for me. During the update Microsoft removed some of my apps they didn't like. That was a move too far for me. Linux does everything I could do in Windows without the control and hassle.

@ I have MS Word and Excel Student Edition installed on my Windows 10. If I switch to Linux, would I be able to reload this software from MS, as I can do with Windows 10 after re-setting my computer? Alternatively, I could back-up using System Image and if Linux wont do what I hope, could I simply recover the saved System Image and carry on with Windows 10?

Accept 1000 popular games according to ProtonDB. Linux uses a dirty hack to make games work and at least 1000 won't! No reason to switch from windows the system the games were designed for to an inferior system that uses dirty hacks that don't even work.

I'm planning on switching my main OS from Windows 10 to Linux (Microsoft gives me no other option because my CPU is one generation too old, plus I'm extremely opposed to using Win11 aka bloatware central). This video gave me the extra push (after a decent amount of research) to do it. I will most likely use Linux mint because it seems like the most beginner friendly, has it's own forum etc. I have a question about dual booting. My PC has 3 drives, an SSD which is where Windows boots from and 2 HDDs for general storage where read/write speed isn't as important. Obviously I can't download Linux onto the SDD if I want to dual boot so can I download Linux on one of the HDDs for dual booting? Are there any drawbacks to doing that (other than slower boot speeds) and is there any special prep I should do for downloading onto the HDD (other than moving and backing up the data)? Also, I have watched other videos on YT about switching from Windows to Mint. In the dual booting section, Mint asks the user how much drive space to allocate to Linux mint and how much to allocate to Windows. How much should I allocate to Mint and Windows? Is this appearing because they are downloading Mint onto the same drive as Windows (which I thought was not possible because downloading Linux wipes the drive clean) or will this happen even when downloading onto separate drives. To me, it doesn't make sense why there is allocated space on separate drives because both OS's have their own space on different drives. I'm a beginner as you can tell! Thanks in advance for any help anyone gives!

My 2009 mac pro is still running pro tools 10, still can do a mix with 30-40 plugins without a sweat and it can't sound no worse then a modern mini, its just running software. I wouldn't buy it today, that seems futile, but it's still a very capable machine. Where you really start to notice the age is in read/write speeds. I have done a 100+ track session on it 2 years ago, with freezing tracks its still very possible. As a sidenote, my machine is stuck in 2014. I disconnected it from the internet, still use the same RME convertors and all the plugins i had in '14. So there's def limitations. But with a full soundtoys library, the entire waves suite and some softtube goodies I have most of not all "standard' plugs, even to modern standards. If you want to use cool contemporary stuff like Soothe it's obviously not able to.

rocked a 5.1 for about 7 years - as a logic pro machine. Spent a lot of money on it, nvme PCIe card and drive, various GPU's, SSD's etc. New CPU's, more memory. But I'd never consider a 3,1 - wow - that's going some. M1 mac mini second hand? - personally, I'd avoid it at anything more than $350 USD - much better to save for a while for an M4. I just replaced my M1 mac mini with the M4. I'm gifting the M1 to my wife for her new studio/office. The M1 did me proud for 4 years, it replaced my old 5,1 cheese grater. The M4 mac mini blew me away because it benchmarks at almost twice the speed. That's nuts, considering it's half the size and the same price as the M1 was new. (base model) For the sake of a saving a few hundred dollars, just save for that M4 mac mini if you are strapped for cash - buying an M1 now is a bad idea.

I absolutely love the 5,1! Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I somewhat agree with the M1 take, though this one I saw the other day got very close to that 350us (about 380). I reckon for people who really don’t want to spend any more, it’s decent value. But yes the M4 is a beast.

I been a thinkpad user for a decade. Unless you are a diehard red dot fanboy, z13 and z16 are actually the best new line from Lenovo that is really original and higher end lighter thinkpad lately - extremely well designed and built and demonstrate further possibility in the thinkpad line design direction. I had 2 x1 carbon consecutively and switched to z13 gen1 and have been happy with it. Battery life is decent would work a normal day for me with 20% left or even 2 days if I didn’t used it heavily.

If you're going to buy a mac that old you're gonna wanna upgrade it to max specs which you can do on a budget less than what if would currently cost to get an 8GB M1 Mac Mini and get a hell of a lot more performance for your dollar especially if you're dual booting. I completely disagree with your take because it doesn't take into account just how obnoxious storage upgrades are on a Mac Mini setup and how much a NAS solution to fix that limitation would cost (especially if you're using it for anything else other than music production).
@QuinsTechCorner
@QuinsTechCorner Ай бұрын
Performance for dollar, I guess?? But in the real world, not at all. An old mac can be upgraded with more storage and RAM for a much better price? Yep - agree with you there. But these old macs are no longer performance machines, and no amount of extra ram or storage (no matter how cheap, even though server RAM is often not) can save them - especially if you start loading up multiple plugins and tracks in a program like Logic Pro X. I do adore these machines though, the expandability is wonderful and I really miss it in Apple’s new machines. I actually no longer buy apple computers because of the outrageous upgrade pricing you mention.

Very cool! I’ve been wanting to try out more pro grade apps on my G5, and if PowerPC can run it, this is most definitely capable of doing it! The newer M series are obviously going to be better for performance/up to date apps, but for an older setup, this is awesome! Plus you can still upgrade it easily, and a lot of older hardware accessories are easy to get nowadays for these. Great video!

I am currently using Macbook Air 2011 on OCLP Ventura. Surprisingly, It works ok. There are some lag/delay when initially pressing specific buttons or navigating but is forgivable since it does not really happen often. Also, since this is a non-metal working on a metal-based demanding OS it is still impressive what the OCLP team has done. If there is one I wish they could or hopefully do is for devices like "non-metal bases" macs they would strip down the OS similar to Linux. Most of the apps mainly browsers require certificates for example and lightweight apps can only run as much. Omitting the modern features should be understandable. #OCLP

Can Linux revive an old iMac G5? Yes, it can. Somehow, but not really. A few days ago i took my imacG5 out of the barn. About five or six years ago i installed Lubuntu on it, but it became outdated very soon and life went on. Installing a running Lubuntu was very easy, as i can remember. Now I had to decide: give it away or give it a try? Sometimes you have to act in an unusual manner and I decided to create a dualboot system MacOS 10.4 / Debian 12 PPC. After all these years I was still a linux beginner, and so the learning curve was high. Managed the partioning table, learned a lot of terminal commands, got WiFi running, got arctic fox browser running. Was it worth to invest work and time? For the iMac? No! For my personal learning? Yes!
