My wife has one of these, though it's the 867mhz version. She bought it when they were very first released at a cost of $2200 USD. We still have it, though it's sitting in its original box. It's still running Tiger, as I didn't want to saddle it with Leopard at the time. It might be interesting to see how well it works with Sorbet Leopard as an experiment. It's really too bad these machines are so slow, as I really enjoyed them back in the day.

Thank you, for sharing adding Sorbet Leopard the unofficial OS X 10.5.9 operating system, to another computer model in my collection a 12-inch G4 PowerBook. Just love the small form factor of these 12-inch laptops and prior to COVID-19, would daily take mine with me each day to the office. These were sold right during what, I like to call the "Golden Age" of Mac computers between the year's 2000 through 2010. Please, put Sorbet Leopard on an install DVD, a set of CD-ROM's, or a USB boot drive for old Power PC systems and then sell a few copies on Ebay. Because, I would be your first buyer at any reasonable cost (even with the required overseas import taxes and shipping delays) ...smile.

Hi again! Thanks so much for watching, I'm glad you are enjoying these videos. :-) I can see how taking the 12" PowerBook to the office would be a treat! Unfortunately sorbet leopard doesn't come with an installation environment - to install, you restore the .dmg image onto the target hard disk (or partition), so every "install" is different. I'm sure there will be a way for you to get sorbet onto your system though! Perhaps if you restore the .dmg onto a USB, and then boot your target system with a DVD so you can get into disk utility and restore from the USB? Cheers.

@@QuinsTechCorner I just boot off the USB directly, have done it that way on my DLSD, my iBook G4 1.42, and my Power Mac G4 450. The install media is a bootable live environment already.

I’ve been thinking about installing Sorbet Leopard on my PowerBook G4 but ideally I’d like to get more storage first for my PowerPC systems. Plus it’ll be fun to try it out on a G4 or G5 desktop machine.
@QuinsTechCorner2 жыл бұрын
Good idea!! I have a 32gb mSATA drive on the powerbook and it works well :) I also installed on the iMac G5 which has been nice!
@TheOriginalCollectorA13032 жыл бұрын
SSDs would be nice, I also wouldn’t mind an older hard drive as long as it works well and has a decent amount of storage. It would also be fun to set up a small server to hold software and games for these systems!
@QuinsTechCorner2 жыл бұрын
@@TheOriginalCollectorA1303 Yeah SSDs are awesome, but I also reckon a good hard drive is fine, you're right. :)

Thanks for putting up these videos. There aren't too many videos on Sorbet Leopard. I just want to ask if you ran the tune up script? It is in Applications -> Utility Scripts -> Maintenance -> Run System Tuneup . It does some optimization and warms up the graphics card driver (not sure what that means). There are some other scripts in there to toggle on/off OS features to improve performance or add functionality. I think most are enabled by default. Also on another note I just got a PowerBook G4 DLSD 17" . I ordered the 2GB of RAM but I'm torn about the SSD. Do you think the SSD improvement is worth it?
@QuinsTechCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching, really glad you enjoyed the video. No, I didn’t actually!! I will have to do that today! Congrats on the new powerbook, but yes, the SSD does definitely make a difference. Not as much as it would make with a faster drive interface, but a difference nonetheless!
@commanderkeen74482 жыл бұрын
There is a good readme about sorbet leopard that gets created on the desktop. I normally don’t read those but I did this time around. The hardening guide was interesting as well, but I won’t be using this PowerBook to do anything with sensitive information. PS , I ordered the SSD for the PB.
@QuinsTechCorner2 жыл бұрын

Hi! I have two powerbooks, one that's not too nice on the outside, but faster processor. And the other one that has a slower processor but looks like new. Do you reckon I can swap the processors to make the best of both combined?
@QuinsTechCorner Жыл бұрын
Hi, If they’re the same model, you could definitely swap the internals into the nicer one! The processor is attached to the motherboard, so that would be the part to swap.
