It's early January, 2025 as I watched this video - and we are all waiting to see what President Trump will do about birthright citizenship when he takes office. Since you are a lawyer. I was really hoping you would get into the opinion written by SCOTUS on this case. I think a lot of people are looking at this case as if it decided something - that it did not touch upon. I read the opinion of the court, and I think they decided Wong's case due to his parents having the full permission of the USA government to reside in the country long term. (today's equivalent of having a green card) Considering that. I think that President Trump will write an executive order, correcting how the 14th hss been applied for the past 60-ish years. The children born to citizens or green card holders will have birthright citizenship. Children born to illegals or holders of temporary visas (work, student, tourist) will not be citizens. I expect there will be lawsuits filed over this - and hope it makes it's way to and through the Supreme Court, so that it can become settled.

They cited Calvin’s case because they didn’t know how to define natural born. Sir Edward Coke who presided over the case spoke of children being born to parents who took occupation within a territory by surprise and infringing on the rights of the true owner. Those kids weren’t considered subjects to the king because of their birth within the territory being brought upon by disobedience to the King. The Supreme Court has stated that the child must be born within the dominion and allegiance to the United States to obtain citizenship. Elk v Wilkins also enforced the idea that a child born to an alien was no different than a child being born in a different country or being born in the U.S. to a foreign ambassador or minister.

@@BT-hk2co I am not familiar with a "Calvin" case - but (from a quick google search) Sir Edward Coke was not a SCOTUS justice, so I don't see his opinions affecting today's application of the 14th too much. I agree with you about the Elk case - the "born" part does not apply to him - he could get citizenship through the naturalization process though. I do think that none of these cases address what Trump is going to do with an executive order. He wants to limit the birthright citizenship to children born to citizens and to holders of green cards - eliminating children born to illegals and holders of temporary visas. No SCOTUS case has addressed that yet. My complaint is that this video (as many others do) implies that the Wong case DID do so. I think Trump's EO will fly with SCOTUS, and the 14th will be applied correctly hereafter.

Wasn't it two men that were fighting over the ownership of a prostitute? Need not the mention, undercutting labor wages, the organized crime that runs rampant throughout the Chinese community to this day. The Americans were already angry. They still deal heavily in drugs, sex trafficing, embezzlement, fraud . Most of the Americans seen what was going on.

America has the blood of minorities in its hands . There are deliberate efforts to erase the history of the suffering of countless innocent people. It's like reducing that history into dust and throwing it into the ocean . What a sad thing on earth .

Anyone who REALLY Wants To Know why America considers China an "enemy" in 2022 should see this video. The White man's Superiority Complex is still Alive and Well and MANY White People in the West would rather be incinerated in a nuclear war than to admit that a non-White nation like China could ever be an equal to ANY Western Nation. The "Yellow Peril" is STILL a Threat to the White Race !!!

Thank you for producing this historic record about such a horrific chapter in Los Angeles. We are all aware of past and ongoing violence against people of differing backgrounds, and yet this reminder of something most of us never knew about until your film underscores the necessity of teaching new generations about the levels of hatred in our society and how we can not tolerate such violence. Well done, and thank you.

My ancestor had arrived in California at around 1861 or 1862 but not in Los Angeles, rather Salinas Monterey area, to fill the labor void as some whites had gone back east to join the Civil War. Hell had to pay when these decommissioned soldiers returned and wanted their jobs back. From this rose the Workingnen's Party.
